homo sapiens is a persistance predator
but, unfortunately, so is generalized anxiety disorder,
by which I mean that my own brain is always out to get me,
daring me to slow down long enough to trip me up for good,
enticing me to stop for a breather only to steal the air
from my lungs the first chance it gets,
until I'm back to cowering in a corner, scared and wide-eyed
like the prey it thinks me to be; out of places to run.
my anxiety is the stalker in the night, hunting with a mad grin
and a knife just as sharp, mocking me into surrendering the life
I've tried to build for myself. and I might always be a little
terrified to leave the house but a wise woman once said
'be scared, but do it anyway', so I remind myself
that homo sapiens is a persistance hunter, that my blood
runs hot enough to burn those trying to put me in my place,
and that I can and will beat this stalker into submission
