Hajime Kanzaka + “L”

Author: H-hello. Author here.

AUTHOR GLANCES OVER SHOULDER WARILY.

L: Stop squirming. I didn’t bring Minion S with me this time. A: R-really?

AUTHOR REMAINS WARY.

L: Yes, really. A: Um—er—so, you’ve figured out that those off-the-record attacks don’t work, right? Okay, then! Nothing to be worried about at all.

L’S FACE TWITCHES SLIGHTLY.

L: A-anyway, congratulations on your third published work. A: Oh, that’s thanks to all the nice readers out there.
Thankyouthankyou!

[THAT REALLY IS WHAT THE AUTHOR THINKS, ALL KIDDING ASIDE.]

L: I see. I think that if they knew how often you yell “Oh no!” every time someone points out a boo-boo while you’re writing, they’d drop you like a hot potato. A: Er… Eep. L: Ah, speaking of boo-boos, you said Dragon Slave’s a spell using a person’s max capabilities, but Lina fired off one after the other in Dragon Magazine. A: Ah, that. Using all of a person’s capacity isn’t like using up all your MP at once like in a video game. It’s like the maximum-size bucket you can use to take water out of a pool. Giga Slave does drain all the MP, though. L: Pretty suspicious explanation, isn’t it? A: Heh. Don’t think about it too much. L: Um okay, next question. Silent Split’s… A: Uh, no… L: Argh! This is turning into a game FAQ or something! A: Please don’t put it like that… L: So! Anyway, it’s time again for L’s bizarre and popular Readership Contest Event Corner. Last time it was the author’s Y/M/D of birth. This time… A: You’re doing it again? L: Hey… it’s popular… A: It is that. But I tend to spontaneously self-destruct when I see the mountain of replies out of nowhere. On that note, sorry I had to stop taking applications last time. L: Oh, by the way, the answer was 19640717. I think that was harder than the sphinx or da Vinci. A: I’m older than the winds of chaos, huh? L: Now then, next question… A: Wait a minute! Let me see that question sheet!

AUTHOR RIPS SHEET OUT OF L’S HAND.

Multiple choice question: Who’s the main character of the Slayers series?

1) Lina __verse 2) Horn __ni 3) Fus ___n

The first one hundred thousand people getting the answers right get handwritten replies from the author?! L: Er, well, I guess making it multiple choice is a bit unusual.

A: Uh, yeah… L: Well two are pretty obviously wrong. A: Aaaaaah! What are you doing putting a bounty out on my head like this?! L: Jeez, it’s not like that at all. A: Maybe not… but what’s this first one hundred thousand respondents thing?! L: Well, I wanted to please the readers. A: Oh really! Even if it’s gonna KILL ME, is that it?!
Hey, all you readers! DO NOT ANSWER THAT LAST QUESTION! PLEASE!!! L: Bummer … so, how ‘bout a fanart contest instead? A: Well, that’s all right, I guess. L: OKAY, we’ll do the painting contest! Pro or amateur, young or old, fully grown thirteen seconds after birth, four-hundred-years old, or super-cute main characters, all may apply!
All paintings with magic charms embedded in them WILL be disqualified.
You may paint on any material, but stained glass will be disqualified. Also, don’t ship over anything that’s too big for Mr. Publisher to handle. A: Um, is this all right? Without even asking anyone… L: How would I know? Anyway, the subject for painting’s any character who hasn’t been drawn in Dragon Magazine or the novels. A: Now just wait a darn—! How can you paint them? L: Hey. If it were normal, it’d be boring. You can draw people who’ve only been seen in silhouette, though. We’re not turning anyone away, no matter how good or bad the results. We’ll use our subjective judgment and give it to Mr. Author one a month as a present. Whether he uses it for a collection or as toilet paper is up to him… A: Hmm. Really laying the gauntlet down to the readers I see. Is it really okay to be doing this? L: I told you, I have no idea. Well, anyway, this includes characters like Zorom, durahans, Daymia and Rithahn, proper portraits of Rod and Rodimus, non-mummy Zolf, and so on.
Maybe the dragroll (troll-dragon) from Atlas City, too. Stuff like Seigram’s face (w/o mask) and the Water Dragon Lord (footprint only) are against the rules. Of course, if you really wanna win, you can draw your friendly neighborhood “L”! (Make me pretty, of course.)
…Anyway, isn’t it time for me to take a stab at writing? A: Like hell! L: Why not? I could end the series in thirty pages if you let me! A: Aaaah! That’s why I’m not letting you! L: What was that?

[THE FOLLOWING SCENE WAS OMITTED DUE TO BARBARITY EXCEEDING THE BOUNDS OF COMMUNITY STANDARDS.]

L: Hmm, it seems that the author is unable to continue due to a flare-up in the symptoms of his chronic illness. I apologize on his behalf.
Well, guess this is the conclusion…
Thank you all very much.
