Chapter 276: Void Absorption Undergoes A Change.

Time passed, but Kael decided not to sit around and watch the countdown slowly tick away. He had a feeling that staring at the timer would only make the two hours feel even longer, so instead, he found something else to occupy himself with.

Before anything else, he sent his Void Echoes into the Tower to cultivate. Once that was done, he walked over to the gaming setup arranged in the corner of his new room and settled into the chair.

He logged into a game and began playing.

As expected, time passed much faster when he wasn’t constantly checking the clock. One game became another, and before Kael even realized it, the two hours had already gone by. A notification suddenly appeared in front of him, immediately pulling his attention away from the screen.

Kael’s lips curled upward.

"It’s done."

He closed the game and immediately pulled up his status screen.

Kael stared at the screen for a while.

Everything appeared to be there just as he remembered. His level, attributes, skills, talent, physique, and everything else remained intact. Then his eyes stopped on one particular stat.

Spirit.

The stats seemed to have increased considerably compared to what they were before the incident at the Rift exploration.

When he’d woken up in the hospital after the incident, he had noticed the increase, though he had no memory of what happened or how it came about.

However, from the fragments he’d been able to piece together afterward, Kael believed he’d probably killed that brain-like monster while in that state. If that was the case, the most likely explanation was that his Chimera Physique had absorbed its body.

That would explain the sudden increase in his Spirit stat.

Still, that wasn’t what interested him right now.

Kael shifted his attention downward until his eyes landed on his Class Perks. This was what he wanted to check.

The names of the perks hadn’t changed, which meant the upgrade hadn’t replaced them with completely different abilities. Instead, he needed to look into their details to see what had changed.

He focused on them, and the moment he did, another screen appeared before him.

---

[CLASS PERKS]

Void Absorption — After a kill, the monster’s essence condenses into Corpse Fragments. Each fragment may contain one or more of the monster’s traits.

Fragment Uses:

- Graft (Item) — Fuse into an item to grant it an additional boost.

- Graft (Being) — Fuse into another being to transfer the trait.

- Consume — Use as material to craft an item shaped by the user’s imagination and will.

Note: The effect and strength of each fragment depend on how many are used. If the recipient’s durability is too low, or it cannot properly absorb the fragment, the effect will be weakened.

Null Field — Creates a suppressive field within a 3-meter radius that prevents intrusive magical probing.

Sovereign’s Claim — Effect changed due to synergizing with the user’s other ability. Check the corresponding ability for details.

Echo Strike — Every third hit on the same target detonates a Void Echo.

Current Damage: 180% of total damage dealt in sequence.

Kael stared at the description.

His eyes slowly widened.

Then a huge grin spread across his face.

"This is absolutely amazing."

For quite some time now, Void Absorption had been one of the most useless Class Perks in his arsenal.

It wasn’t completely useless. There had been situations where it could have come in handy, and its ability to draw traits from monsters had obvious potential. The problem was that Kael’s own stats had already hit their cap, meaning they could no longer be increased.

As for obtaining skills or other special traits, he simply hadn’t had much luck.

Either the odds of getting something worthwhile were extremely low, or his luck was just terrible. Whatever the reason, he’d gone through countless battles without gaining anything particularly useful from Void Absorption.

Eventually, Kael had stopped expecting anything from it.

But now, everything had changed.

The addition of Graft and Consume gave the ability an entirely new purpose.

He could take the essence of a monster, extract its traits, and decide how he wanted to use them. He could strengthen an item with those traits. He could transfer them to another being. Or he could use them as material to create something entirely new.

Most importantly, the ability no longer depended entirely on whether the fragment happened to contain a useful trait.

Kael could actually make use of the fragments himself.

His eyes remained fixed on the description as his excitement continued to build.

He wanted to test it.

Now.

Originally, Kael had planned to wait until his armor was fully repaired before returning to the Tower. After the monk had invaded his floor and he’d nearly died in the encounter, he’d grown more cautious, and decided there was no reason to rush back in before his armor was ready.

But he couldn’t wait anymore.

"I need to test this."

He immediately stood up. His will moved through the connection between himself and the Tower, and the space around his body distorted.

The next instant, Kael disappeared from his room.

When his vision returned, he found himself standing inside his familiar start room. Kael didn’t waste any time lingering there, he willed himself toward the next floor almost instantly, eager to see the results of the change in the Void Absorption class perk for himself.

The surroundings began to dissolve.

The pink walls disappeared first, followed by the floor beneath his feet and the rest of the room. Space twisted around him as the Tower responded to his will, carrying him toward his next trial.

When Kael’s senses settled again, he found himself standing in an entirely different world.

Red.

That was the first thing he noticed.

Everything around him was drenched in the same deep crimson color. The earth beneath his feet looked as though blood had seeped deep into the soil, staining the ground until not even a trace of its original color remained. The mountains stretching across the distant horizon were red as well, their jagged peaks rising beneath an equally crimson sky.

Even the trees were the same, their trunks were red, their branches and leaves red as well.

There was no escaping the color anywhere he looked.

The entire world carried a gloomy atmosphere, one that made the surroundings feel less like a natural environment and more like a place that had been soaked in blood for countless years.

Kael looked around calmly.

He wasn’t particularly bothered by it.

After everything he had already seen inside the Tower, a strange red world simply wasn’t enough to surprise him.

Instead, his attention quickly shifted toward the unfamiliar environment as he began wondering what kind of trial awaited him this time.
