Chapter 11: Should I Take Jiang Yu Away?

When Song Jitang heard this, she cast a side glance at the pond next to her.

This was stagnant water. If Yangcheng didn’t rain year-round, the South Court would likely reek to high heaven, especially with the rotting dead leaves floating on top, not to mention that corpse at the bottom of the pond…

She instinctively shook her head.

Seeing her reaction, He Lian raised his sharp brows with great interest: “Fine, I appreciate your backbone, but I really despise your resistance.”

With that, his hand loosened.

The half-dead Zhou Yun was instantly submerged in the blackish-green pond water!

“Yun’er!”

Song Jitang screeched, scared out of her wits.

Song Qian hadn’t expected He Lian to be so ruthless either. He had assumed He Lian was merely threatening her, never imagining he would actually kill someone!

“Quick, quick! Get into the water!”

Several servants who knew how to swim were loyal enough, diving in one after another like dumplings dropped into boiling water.

In the chaos, the hem of Song Xueyan’s dress was splashed with water, but she didn’t even have time to smooth it out.

Looking at He Lian, her fear wiped away all admiration for the man, and she swallowed hard.

As expected of the star of calamity from Jinzhou!

Leaving the crowd behind, He Lian brought Jiang Yu back to the second floor of the wooden building.

He placed the girl onto the bed, and seeing that Jiang Yu was about to jump down again, he simply blocked her path with his arms.

Looking at Jiang Yu’s vacant, dazed expression, He Lian murmured with a trace of helplessness, “Little fool, how on earth are you going to survive in the Song family like this?”

Jiang Yu tilted her head up to look at him, her expression completely harmless.

He Lian pressed his forehead against hers, knowing Jiang Yu couldn’t understand. Helpless, he held her cold hands and whispered softly, “Are you really that fond of those paintbrushes?”

Jiang Yu nodded heavily: “Mm!”

He Lian: “As long as you stay far away from the pond, I’ll buy you new ones, alright?”

“Alright.”

Jiang Yu smiled obediently.

He Lian froze slightly. It was his first time seeing this little fool smile—so pure, completely devoid of any malice, with cute little canine teeth visible.

A sudden tightness choked his chest, as if it had been yanked raw.

Should I just take the little fool away?

But…

Jiang Yu belonged to the Song family; what right or reason did he have to take her away?

Besides, given his precarious situation in Jinzhou, bringing a little fool along with him was neither convenient nor safe.

He Lian stroked Jiang Yu’s hair, his fingertips applying a strange amount of pressure. He petted her for a long time before turning to leave.

As the sound of his footsteps faded into the distance, Jiang Yu’s gently swaying legs slowly came to a halt.

She raised her eyelashes, a cautious glint surfacing in her eyes.

The hook had been set deep enough.

Before ensuring that He Lian would definitely carry her away, she couldn’t afford to make any more moves. Otherwise, if the Song family intervened and He Lian abandoned her out of hassle, those people would immediately tear her apart!

Staring at the doorway, she bit her lower lip with her pearly teeth.

Now it all depended on whether He Lian would come back!

If the plan failed…

She would die without a place for burial!

Downstairs, Zhou Yun had already been dragged out of the water. Fortunately, the servants had fished him out quickly, so he was conscious, wailing hysterically in Song Jitang’s arms.

Seeing He Lian walk down, Song Jitang hastily shifted her body to shield her son, yet she didn’t dare utter a single word of complaint.

Who dared to point fingers at He Lian?!

Seeing this, Song Qian stepped forward to escort him back along the path they came, acting as though nothing had just happened and offering endless apologetic smiles: “Mr. He, let me see you to the entrance.”

Along the way, He Lian wanted to warn Song Qian multiple times not to mistreat Jiang Yu any longer. But on second thought, if saying so only brought Jiang Yu more suffering, it was better left unsaid.

At the entrance of the old mansion, Zhuang Yumian was waiting there with the guards.

Jingyue, whose dark circles under his eyes hung heavy, poked his head out from the rear window of the car, yawning as he urged, “Uncle, what took you so long? Jin-ge has nearly blown up my phone with calls.”

He Lian shot him a glare, and he retreated sheepishly.

Zhuang Yumian pulled open the car door: “President.”

He Lian looked back at Song Qian, who bowed and said respectfully, “Mr. He, safe travels.”

The man paid him no mind, letting his gaze linger in the distance for a few moments before turning around and getting into the vehicle.

Due to yesterday’s heavy rain, the mountain road was even muddier than when they arrived. The sound of water splashing from the tires echoed in He Lian’s ears. He looked out the window, his amber pupils reflecting the blanket of white mist covering the mountain.

The mist in the mountains seemed to have grown even thicker.

The further away they drove…

The emptier he felt inside.

Inside the wooden building, blood trickled from the corner of Jiang Yu’s mouth as she stared blankly at Song Jitang.

The woman vented all the anger she had accumulated from He Lian entirely onto her. Her sharp fingernails almost pierced Jiang Yu’s flesh, scratching her until she was covered in bruised and bleeding wounds!

“You little bitch! You’re fucking courting death!”

“He Lian actually wanted to kill my son because of you!”

“The day the Old Master brought you back, I should have strangled you to death!”

In front of so many servants, Song Jitang acted like a shrew, pinning Jiang Yu to the ground with her hands clamped around her slender neck, applying force with all her might, her arms trembling from the exertion!

Jiang Yu’s face flushed deep red as her mouth gasped, her struggles remaining faint and weak.

The servants looked at each other, caught between intervening and staying out of it.

Su He stood at the very back of the crowd, his hands inside his sleeves clutched into tight fists.

A-Yu…

Seeing Jiang Yu’s movements gradually fade away, Su He felt his scalp go numb. Just as he was about to step forward, his shoulder was roughly shoved aside. A young man walked past, grabbing Song Jitang’s arm with a flat tone.

“Aunt, my dad and uncle are calling you to the main hall.”

Song Jitang turned around. The young man possessed a sickly, porcelain-white face with refined features. Black hair swept across his cold eyes—he was Song Xun’s only son, Song Yuchu.

Song Jitang ground her teeth: “Yuchu, Yun’er was nearly killed by this bitch! Don’t you know that?!”

Having caused such a huge scene, of course Song Yuchu knew, but his reaction showed he couldn’t care less about his cousin’s life or death. He merely repeated his words once more.

Song Jitang took a heavy breath, knowing that this boy was born cold-blooded. Leave aside Zhou Yun choking on water, even if the child had been killed by He Lian, Song Yuchu wouldn’t cast a second glance.

She had no choice but to release Jiang Yu, landing a harsh kick on her before straightening her dress and turning to head downstairs.

Song Yuchu called out, “You all go back to your work.”

The servants dispersed as well.

Su He, however, didn’t move.

Song Yuchu’s brow furrowed slightly: “Get lost.”

Su He knit his brows before disappearing from view.

Turning around, Song Yuchu looked down at Jiang Yu on the floor. The girl’s eyebrows were tightly knit in pain, her slender limbs curled up together awkwardly.

He squatted down, gently scooping Jiang Yu into his arms.

He patted her back to help clear her airway.

Feeling Jiang Yu pushing him away, Song Yuchu’s pupils twitched slightly. He applied force with his palm, pulling her tight against himself, before letting out an suppressed, cold tone: “A-Yu, did He Lian hold you?”

The person in his arms gave no reaction.

Song Yuchu grabbed her by the shoulders. Looking at Jiang Yu’s expressionless, dazed face, he remembered what he had heard on his way over—yesterday, she had clung to He Lian without letting go, and He Lian had treated her like a personal accessory.

Extreme rage and jealousy surged into his heart. He grabbed Jiang Yu’s wrist and draped it over his shoulder, but in the end, his arm just dropped down mechanically once more.

A twisted expression tore across Song Yuchu’s pale face, the redness at the corners of his eyes turning increasingly vivid.

“A-Yu, He Lian held you!”

He practically roared it out.

Jiang Yu finally moved slightly.

Blankly, she reached out her arms to wrap around his neck.

The girl’s skin was fair, carrying a faint scent of paint. But at the thought that these arms had touched He Lian, Song Yuchu turned violently enraged. He yanked her wrists and dragged her all the way downstairs!

Jiang Yu stumbled helplessly behind him, her arms and shoulders aching as if they were being torn apart alive!

Song Yuchu pressed down on the back of her neck, shoving her face forcefully into the pond!

“Wash… wash yourself clean!”

“Jiang Yu! Why did you touch someone else?! I won’t allow it!”

“Disgusting! It’s utterly revolting!”

Half of Jiang Yu’s body was submerged in the foul-smelling water. Eyes closed, a layer of fabric seemed to cover her ears, blocking out all sound, yet she felt not a single shred of fear.

Because beneath the water… was her mother.
