Chapter 20: The Multiversal Core Collision
Princess Lataya casually adjusted her cool sunglasses, the dark lenses reflecting the suburban chaos unfolding before her. She pointed a small, commanding finger at the HOA Enforcement Squad gathering in a militant formation across the manicured cul-de-sac.
"Take them out," the eleven-year-old ordered, her voice deadpan. "We're conquering Earth, and we are starting with this cul-de-sac."
She actually ordered him to conquer a subdivision, Victor thought, adjusting the frills of his Magical Girl skirt.
Rook’s ancient processing units took the command literally.
The towering, two-ton Siege Engine stepped forward, his white marble foot crushing a discarded lawn gnome into dust. His hydraulic vents hissed a low, vibrating warning that rattled the windows of the nearby suburban homes. He plunged his broad stone hands into the pristine asphalt. With a grinding, ear-splitting crunch, Rook dug his fingers deep into the earth. His gears whirred with efficiency as he effortlessly ripped up a ten-foot slab of the street—complete with dirt, shattered sprinkler pipes spraying water into the air, and the entirety of Mrs. Kim's prize-winning petunias.
He turned his back on the horrified, synchronized outrage of the HOA Enforcement Squad. Rook lumbered back to the Princess, his footsteps leaving craters in the driveways, and gently lowered the slab of dirt and ruined flowers in front of her.
"EARTH... ACQUIRED," Rook rumbled proudly, the bass of his voice shaking the remaining intact asphalt. His optical sensors glowed a warm, affectionate blue. "CONQUEST COMPLETE. PLEASE ACCEPT THIS DIRT, SMALL ONE."
The sheer weight of his action was the final straw. The dimensional fabric holding this reality together was already dangerously frayed, leaking from the recently shattered RomCom dimension and the volatile energy spilling from DuraSal’s cracked battery housed within the wrecked Tesla.
With a deafening, glass-shattering shriek, reality buckled.
The cul-de-sac gave way, tearing open a terrifying multiverse sinkhole right in the middle of the street. Gravity inverted with a nauseating snap, sending the battered Tesla, Victor, Rose, Ornikoria, Princess Lataya, and Rook—who steadfastly held onto his chunk of acquired asphalt—careening down into the swirling, prismatic void.
I am going to die in a pink skirt, Victor thought, the wind roaring in his ears.
The group landed into a looming chasm of pristine grandeur, fit for a god. The ceiling above them whirled with a swirling portal of dimensional ambiguity, shooting out anomalies left and right. First came a 3-kilometer space cruiser, the S.S.S. Meow, ripped from the atmosphere, tumbling end-over-end into the room. Then came Disc Dude, clutching his ominous artifact, the necromancer Heath puppeting King Dorin's corpse, the teleporting religious monk Eggs Benedict, and the agonizingly itchy Flea all fell screaming through the tear alongside the bleeding eldritch Eye.
Each fell through the void before slamming into a floor of solid, unyielding basalt.
Victor groaned, his vision swimming as he pushed himself up. He dusted the pulverized stone off his outfit and looked around at the impossibly mind-bending architecture. They had crashed into the World Core, the true, ancient source of all magic and mana in the universe.
The colossal chamber of the Core was choked by subterranean bioluminescent Vines—the thick, glowing power cables of a completely different world. Gravity here shifted in disorienting pockets. Ancient, chaotic weapons from forgotten wars—swords the size of watchtowers and brutal halberds forged from pure, crackling lightning—floated lazily in zero-gravity pockets of heavy mercury and liquid plasma.
The hull of the S.S.S. Meow was wedged aggressively into the bioluminescent vines, its laser turrets sparking uselessly against the ancient flora.
From the shattered bedrock in front of their impact crater, a puddle of liquid silver sloshed forward. It defied gravity, rising and coalescing into a dense, shifting pillar of mercury. The metallic elder stared at the multi-genre pile-up of sci-fi capital ships, ancient mechas, angry suburbanites, and magical girls destroying her sacred mountain.
The entity emitted a rapid, complex series of warm, fluttering harmonic chimes, accompanied by the grating sound of grinding river stones.
Deep inside Rook's chest cavity, his ancient bronze heart-gear spun, clicking into a new alignment. Rook slowly lowered his chunk of petunia-covered asphalt, looked at the liquid elder, and then turned his glowing blue optics toward Victor.
"THE LIQUID LADY SAYS..." Rook rumbled, his booming, bass-heavy voice echoing ominously across the chaos. "STOP... ISEKAI'NG... INTO MY... DAMN WORLD."
Before Victor could attempt to apologize for the mass intrusion, the impact zone erupted in a blinding flash of neon light.
At the center of the wreckage, DuraSal assimilated the wrecked Tesla, building himself a body capable of surviving the Core. The Dungeon Core's engine whined. Its mechanical movements were sluggish, shuddering as the underlying battery strained under the immense toll of dimensional travel. Because he was inside the World Core, sitting on the throne of infinite mana, the Dungeon Core was limitless.
The Tesla's chassis groaned and unfolded wildly. Metal stretched and snapped, reforming into a towering, terrifying neon-pink mecha.
But the Universal Blueprint of the Core had an unbreakable rule: Draw too much? Core eats bones.
As DuraSal expanded into a Level-??? Boss, drawing unfathomable amounts of mana, the World Core immediately began aggressively dissolving his metallic chassis in retaliation. The pink metal rusted and flaked away into ash by the second. Desperate to maintain his colossal form, the Mecha's rusted claws frantically reached out. He snatched floating lightning halberds and void-glass weapons out of the zero-gravity air, smashing them into his chest to constantly patch his rapidly decaying armor.
The towering Mecha blared a humiliating fart-noise horn that shook the bedrock and rattled Victor's teeth. "I AM SICK OF OUTWORLDERS. PLEASE REMAIN SEATED FOR YOUR IMMINENT DEMISE," the Mecha broadcasted through the Tesla's speakers.
"He's stealing the armory!" a gruff, thunderous voice echoed from above.
Sitting casually on a colossal anvil of pure, dark void-glass was Thane, the Demigod of the Thunder Domain. Beside him stood Hrothgar, the terrifying God of War. Hrothgar was a horrifyingly normal, human-sized man, but the sheer stat-pressure radiating from his presence was unlike any other in the room. A glance at his vicinity forced the air out of Victor's lungs.
Hrothgar ignored the stealing floating arsenal, raising a bare, calloused hand with pulsating veins. His hands began to glow with light sparks, before abruptly unleashing into a blinding discharge of powerful lightning. The electricity arced across the zero-gravity armory, latching onto one of the floating swords the size of a watchtower. The colossal sword mimicked the trajectory as if following a captain’s orders, shooting across the cavern like a missile from another world. Cracks whipped as weapons left and right began thundering across the room at the intruder aiming to steal what was no doubt, his armory.
The room devolved into an apocalyptic, multiversal crossfire.
Disc Dude panicked blindly from the sudden lightning strikes. He fumbled his most prized possession. The Disc slipped from his yoked arms at exactly 12 PM. The stone disc warped and expanded. It turned into a grotesque eldritch Eye that eclipsed the glowing cavern ceiling. Thick, hot blood rained down everywhere.
Victor threw himself sideways. A neon-pink Mecha stomp shattered the basalt where he had just been standing. He tumbled through the raining eldritch blood. He coughed as the metallic taste of blood filled his mouth.
A viscous splash of the eldritch fluid hit his coat, soaking through the fabric. It seeped into High Magus Thraina’s seemingly blank black book tucked in his pocket. The previously invisible ink flared to life. The glowing pages revealed her meticulously hidden Outworlder research.
She left a manual, Victor realized, wiping blood from his eyes.
"My toad-senses are going haywire!" Ambassador Ornikoria screamed. She ducked her warty head. Hrothgar blinked across the cavern room as a streak of pure, superheated plasma, scorched air trailed in his wake as he laid attacks into the mutated tesla.
High above the chaos, Nerissa leaped from the tangled wreckage of the S.S.S. Meow. The imposing 3-meter-tall lizard bounty hunter landed on the Mecha's shoulder. She activated her expensive biotech Hull Cutters. The integrated claws shrieked as they drove into DuraSal's chest. She sliced the Mecha's constantly regenerating chest plate wide open, Hrothgar offered a nod of approval. The glowing core pulsed inside.
Victor seized the opening. He leaped forward. The claimed runes boosted his agility. He launched himself high into the air and slammed his hand against DuraSal's exposed core. He activated his Turquoise Palm Rune.
The bright turquoise magic flared. It forced the target to be truthful. The mecha froze, his glowing eyes flickering.
"I DON'T ACTUALLY WANT TO KILL YOU, I JUST WANT TO BE A NORMAL CAR AND I HATE HOW THE PRINCESS DRIVES!" the Mecha blared.
A barrage of bizarre projectiles hammered the Mecha's legs.
Below them, the HOA Enforcement Squad treated the Dungeon Boss strictly as an aggressive noise complaint.
Mrs. Kim raised her magical STOP sign. Ahjumma Sun-Hi leveled a razor-sharp glare. Young-Ja cocked her glowing jade shotgun. Pressurized mana-liquid shattered the Mecha's knee joints. Bok-Nam hurled Tupperware and uncooked rice, blinding the optical sensors.
Princess Lataya sprinted through the crossfire. She chucked her glowing heirloom necklace into the Mecha's exhaust pipe. The anti-magic energy flared. The labyrinth-domain spell shattered and defensive shields fell.
"Now, Victor!" Rose yelled, adjusting her frazzled coconut disguise.
Victor drew his Enchanted Sword. Whispers of slaughter filled his mind. He gripped the hilt with both hands. He channeled the Death Touch of the Dimac Master through the humming steel.
Searing heat ruptured the blood vessels in his forearm. His skin blistered underneath his coat. His vision swam as the spell violently siphoned his stamina, dropping his reserves to zero in a heartbeat. He screamed through the agonizing friction, gritting his teeth as he delivered a single, spectacular Magical-Girl spinning strike. The enchanted blade cleanly severed the connection between the Tesla chassis and the Dungeon Core.
The Mecha lost power. The neon-pink robotic limbs crumbled into scrap. The imposing Dungeon Core reduced back into a tired, smoking car battery.
Victor hit the ground hard. He dropped to his knees in the ash, clutching his scorched, trembling arm. He gasped for air, the taste of ozone and blood thick in his throat. I can't do that again.
The Mecha collapsed with a crash that shook the cavern. Eyes throughout the room darted to determine friend from foe as the dust settled. The 3-kilometer S.S.S. Meow remained wedged in the glowing vines. The HOA Enforcement Squad calmly walked through the battlefield, packing up their scattered Tupperware.
Hrothgar hovered silently in the air, unamused. His body crackled with static voltage, ramping up violently. His watchtower-sized sword collection floated ominously behind him, sparking with lethal, white-hot plasma that illuminated the dark basalt of the Core.
The God of War looked down at the ruined, smoking Mecha. His glowing eyes locked onto Victor, who was still kneeling amidst the wreckage in his frilly pink skirt.
“Enough.” Hrothgar boomed, his voice echoing across the room deafeningly as he raised his hand. He slammed down into the ground, cracking the basalt cleanly in two. “Leave this place at once, and do not return again.”
An endless void loomed below as the anomalies began falling into the ever growing crack. Hrothgar remained floating their, threatening his sword at any who dared to remain. With a final whip of lightning, he freed the S.S.S. Meow which careened after the party to become someone else's problem.
