Chapter 27: Weirdo, Questioning, Goodnight

After Ke Mingqing came downstairs, he had just taken a pair of bowls and chopsticks from the sterilizer when he heard the doorbell ring from the entryway.

"Mom, I'll get the door." Leaving those words behind, he set the tableware on the table and leisurely walked out of the kitchen.

He crossed the dim entryway and opened the front door, greeted by a rush of the evening breeze. Xia Zili stood barefoot outside, her back against the night sky and the chirping of cicadas.

The girl was quietly playing with her phone, the screen's glow illuminating her eyes. Her left hand held a pair of sandals; the strap on one of them had snapped at the corner.

Ke Mingqing didn't even have to think about it. She must have gone back to her room to rest for a while, changed into clean clothes, slipped out the window into the alley, and finally circled all the way around to the front door to ring the bell.
