INT. VIREX HEADQUARTERS — ANALYSIS ROOM — MORNING

The VIREX headquarters was unusually quiet that morning.

Behind a wall of monitors, ARGUS displayed footage from the previous afternoon’s emergency at Nova City Central Transit Station. The footage showed the stalled train, the damaged support beams, and the rescue carried out by Alex and Mia Carter.

Selene stood beside the main console, reviewing the incident report. Finn leaned against the desk nearby, holding a tablet.

SELENE: The station is back online. No serious injuries, and all passengers were safely evacuated.

FINN: Not bad for two junior agents on their first public emergency.

SELENE: They handled themselves well. Alex used his plasma to clear the train entrance, and Mia got everyone out before the situation could get worse.

Finn glanced at the monitor.

FINN: They’re getting more confident.

SELENE: Which is exactly what we want. But I noticed something unusual in their energy readings.

Selene enlarged a section of the graph. Just as Alex and Mia had reached the most dangerous part of the rescue, both readings had briefly risen at almost the same moment.

FINN: They were working together.

SELENE: Exactly. Their energy signatures seemed to respond to one another.

Finn studied the screen.

FINN: You think their powers are connected?

SELENE: I think it's worth investigating. We already know their abilities developed after the incident with Valeria's extraction machine. We still don't fully understand why.

FINN: John and Sarah might know more about the machine's effects.

SELENE: I've already requested their original medical and power assessments. I want to compare those readings with yesterday's data.

ARGUS spoke through the room's speakers.

ARGUS: Additional analysis is recommended. Current data is insufficient to establish the relationship between the subjects' energy signatures.

FINN: Well, at least we're all in agreement.

Selene folded her arms.

SELENE: For now, let's keep monitoring them. I don't want to make assumptions.

FINN: Agreed.

The blue and pink graphs continued moving across the monitor.

Something about the readings was different.

And Selene intended to find out what.

Alex sat at the kitchen table, eating cereal while scrolling through something on his tablet. Mia sat across from him, carefully organizing her schoolbooks.

He had spent enough time with the Carter family to understand some of their routines, although he was still getting used to how casually they spoke to one another.

MIA: We haven't even finished the last one.

ALEX: That's probably why.

MIA: You only say that because you like the simulations.

ALEX: They're fun.

ALEX: Almost. There's a difference.

Kael glanced between them.

KAEL: You train every day?

ALEX: Pretty much.

MIA: We're Junior Agents. It's part of the job.

KAEL: And you enjoy it?

ALEX: Most of the time.

MIA: I like learning how to control my speed. Sometimes I move too fast without thinking.

ALEX: And sometimes I use too much plasma.

MIA: Sometimes?

Alex gave her a look.

Kael lowered his eyes to his breakfast, hiding a small smile.

John entered the kitchen, carrying his coffee.

JOHN: Are we discussing yesterday's rescue?

ALEX: We were discussing how Mia thinks I'm irresponsible.

MIA: I don't think it. I know it.

JOHN: Sounds like a productive conversation.

Sarah followed him into the room.

SARAH: Selene called earlier. She wants to review the energy readings from yesterday.

MIA: Did something happen?

FINN: Why would you be in trouble?

ALEX: We're being called into an analysis room. That usually means something happened.

MIA: Or someone wants to show us something.

FINN: Your sister is correct.

Finn gestured toward the screen.

FINN: We reviewed the footage from yesterday's rescue. You both did a good job getting those passengers out safely.

ALEX: Thanks.

MIA: Was there a problem?

SELENE: Not exactly. We noticed something interesting in your energy readings.

Selene brought up the two graphs.

SELENE: These are your individual energy signatures. Alex, yours is represented by blue. Mia, yours is represented by pink.

ALEX: I knew that part.

SELENE: During the rescue, both readings increased at nearly the same time.

Alex leaned closer to the screen.

Mia studied the graph.

ALEX: So we're training?

FINN: You're always training.

Alex grinned.

MIA: I thought we were supposed to be investigating.

Finn picked up his tablet.

FINN: We'll start in the training room. Alex, you'll work on controlling your plasma output. Mia, you'll focus on speed and precision. Then we'll see what happens when you work together.

He had been invited to watch the twins' assessment, although he was not participating.

Below them, Alex and Mia stood on opposite sides of the training floor.

JOHN: They're still learning how to manage their abilities. It takes time.

KAEL: They've improved quickly.

Sarah glanced at him.

SARAH: They have. But there's still a lot for them to learn.

Kael watched as Alex raised his hand. A bright blue glow formed in his palm, flickering like a small electrical storm.

Across the room, Mia prepared herself to run.

FINN (OVER COMM): All right, Alex. Start with a controlled energy burst. Nothing too powerful.

Alex aimed at a designated target.

A blue burst shot from his hand and struck the center of the target.

MIA: It was a giant target.

ALEX: Still counts.

FINN: Mia, your turn.

Mia took off, leaving a pink trail behind her. She weaved between several obstacles, collected three training markers, and returned to her starting position.

MIA: Done!

FINN: Good speed. Watch your turn at the final obstacle. You nearly lost your balance.

MIA: I had it under control.

ALEX: Sure you did.

MIA: Don't start.

Kael watched closely.

The blue and pink energy signatures appeared again on the observation monitor. This time, however, they remained relatively stable.

KAEL: What happens when they use their powers together?

John smiled faintly.

JOHN: That's what we're about to find out.

Finn activated the next exercise.

A series of holographic targets appeared around the room. Some were stationary, while others moved between platforms.

FINN: Your objective is to hit all the targets within the time limit. Alex, you'll handle the targets on the upper platforms. Mia, you'll take the lower ones.

ALEX: Easy.

MIA: Stop saying that.

FINN: Three... two... one... begin!

Alex fired controlled bursts of blue plasma toward the upper targets. Mia raced across the floor, striking the lower targets with small padded markers.

For the first few seconds, everything went smoothly.

Then two targets moved into the same path.

ALEX: Mia, watch out!

Mia changed direction just in time. Alex adjusted his aim, sending a burst toward the target above her.

The target shattered into harmless holographic particles.

MIA: Got it!

FINN: Keep going!

They continued, moving faster as the timer counted down.

When the final target appeared, Alex and Mia both reached for it at the same time. Alex's plasma burst struck the target just as Mia's marker hit its base.

A flash of blue and pink light spread across the training floor.

The target disappeared.

The timer stopped.

FINN: Exercise complete.

Alex lowered his hand.

ALEX: Did you see that?

MIA: We got it!

Up in the observation room, the monitor displayed another brief increase in both energy readings.

Selene leaned toward the screen.

SELENE: There it is again.

JOHN: The same pattern?

SELENE: Yes. Their readings increased together when they combined their abilities.

Sarah watched the twins celebrate below.

SARAH: What does it mean?

Selene didn't answer immediately.

SELENE: I don't know yet.

On the training floor, Finn approached the twins.

FINN: Good work. You adjusted to each other instead of competing for the target.

ALEX: We make a pretty good team.

MIA: When he listens.

ALEX: I listened!

FINN: You two are going to be working together a lot. Learning how your abilities complement each other is just as important as learning to control them individually.

The twins exchanged a look.

MIA: So what's next?

FINN: We'll find out after we review the results.

Selene replayed the final moments of the exercise.

The blue and pink readings rose together once more before settling back down.

Finn stood beside her.

FINN: Three separate instances now. The rescue, the individual exercises, and the combined challenge.

SELENE: The strongest response occurred when they used their powers together.

FINN: Maybe it's a natural connection between their abilities.

SELENE: It could be. But I want to compare their readings with the original data from the extraction chamber.

Finn nodded.

FINN: You think the machine might have changed something?

SELENE: It extracted energy from John and Sarah. We know the twins developed their abilities after that event. But we still don't know exactly how the machine affected them.

FINN: Then that's where we start.

Selene saved the readings to a secure VIREX file.

SELENE: Until we know more, we keep this between us and their parents. There's no reason to worry the twins with theories.

FINN: Agreed.

Behind them, the monitor continued displaying the two energy signatures.

Blue.

Pink.

Two different abilities, reacting in a way VIREX couldn't yet explain.
