Chapter 119 Wedding Ceremony
Chapter 119 Wedding Ceremony
Cheng Ge scrambled back into the carriage, gently patted his chest, and stared at the fan on the ground, breathing heavily.
That bastard! Hope he dies a horrible death!
Lin Nanshu, who was sitting opposite him lighting incense, his hand trembled involuntarily, clearly startled by his actions.
Lin Nanshu looked up at Cheng Ge and quickly stood up to ask, "Muyu, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Cheng Ge steadied himself, swallowed hard, and shook his head gently at Lin Nanshu.
"It's nothing. I just got hit square in the heart by a sachet."
Lin Nanshu: "..."
Lin Nanshu heaved a sigh of relief, with a hint of exasperation picked up a pastry and handed it to Cheng Ge.
Cheng Ge took it, shoved it into his mouth, took a couple of bites, and barely managed to calm down.
He thought to himself that if he ever ran into that bastard again, he would definitely sic Dahuang on him.
Lin Nanshu reached out and wiped the pastry crumbs from the corner of his mouth, his eyes swept over the fan in the corner.
He gently bent down, picked up the fan, and was about to fold it up.
Unexpectedly, a sharp shriek from Cheng Ge pierced his ears, "Holy shit!"
Lin Nanshu was stunned and was about to look at the fan.
But then everything went dark as Cheng Ge lunged at him without warning.
Caught off guard, Lin Nanshu instinctively reached out to hold Cheng Ge, afraid he might fall.
Cheng Ge dodged, blocking Lin Nanshu's line of sight.
Taking advantage of his distraction, he quickly and gently pulled the fan from Lin Nanshu's hand and tucked it into his sleeve.
"Yuli... my heart hurts so bad. I think it's broken," Cheng Ge said weakly, holding his chest, furrowing his brows, and pursing his lips.
Seeing him in such a state, Lin Nanshu became very worried and forgot all about the fan.
"Don't worry, don't worry. I'll have someone call a doctor right away."
Cheng Ge's heart sank. He wasn't actually in pain; he was just afraid Lin Nanshu would see the picture on the fan.
If Lin Nanshu saw it, his good buddy would definitely think he was a pervert.
Cheng Ge's eyes darted around, and he suddenly yawned, rubbed his eyes, and pretended to be sleepy.
"Yuli, I suddenly don't feel the pain anymore. But I'm a bit sleepy. I want to sleep for a while."
Lin Nanshu, still worried despite his words, gently laid him down and let him rest his head on his lap.
"Then have a good sleep. Call me if you feel uncomfortable."
Cheng Ge closed his eyes, feeling Lin Nanshu's gentle movements, and immediately relaxed a lot.
The carriage jolted along, with the clatter of horse hooves and the incessant hawking of street vendors filling his ears.
Cheng Ge had intended to pretend to nap for a while, but unexpectedly he actually got sleepy and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
Lin Nanshu looked down at the sleeping Cheng Ge, the corners of his mouth involuntarily lifting slightly, and he gently smoothed the stray hair on his forehead.
Cheng Ge's vision was hazy, and his ears were filled with the clamor of drums and gongs, noise from every direction.
He stood in front of a large gate and looked up. His vision gradually cleared.
Wow! The two wildly flamboyant characters "Cheng Mansion" nearly blinded his damn eyes.
The Cheng Mansion before him was extraordinarily festive, with lanterns and colorful decorations throughout the estate. Crimson silk brocade was spread from the main hall all the way to the gate.
Gilded lanterns with the "Double Happiness" character hanging under the eaves swayed gently in the evening breeze, casting a shimmering glow over the entire courtyard.
"Hey! What are you standing around for, groom? Go do the ceremony already!"
Cheng Ge was totally baffled. What the hell? When did I get married?
He instinctively looked down and found himself wearing a bright red wedding robe.
The cloud python patterns embroidered with gold thread on his chest shimmered in the candlelight, and the wings on either side of his black gauze hat fluttered slightly.
Cheng Ge was stunned. Was he really going to get married?
Just then, someone pushed him forward, and Cheng Ge braced himself and entered the main hall.
The parents were seated in the hall, but their faces were indistinct. The figure of the bride opposite him, covered with a red veil, looked somewhat familiar.
Cheng Ge's mind was all muddled, and he was about to start the ceremony in a daze.
"Hold on! The brides haven't all arrived yet!" Cheng Ge looked bewildered. What does it mean "brides haven't all arrived"?
At that moment, several more figures with red veils were helped in.
He was totally confused. Was he marrying a bunch of them? Holy shit! Could this really be happening?
Looking at the row of brides before him, Cheng Ge's face quickly flushed red, and he put on a shy expression.
"This doesn't seem right..."
He had always been faithful. Going against the 'male virtue' code like this really put him in a tough spot.
Besides, his salary wasn't high. Wouldn't it be too much pressure to support so many wives?
"Groom, hurry up and perform the ceremony," the people beside him urged loudly.
Cheng Ge could only brace himself and follow the procedure: "First bow to Heaven and Earth—"
When it came time to enter the bridal chamber, Cheng Ge was pushed into the bridal room.
Cheng Ge stood at the door, his heart pounding as if it would jump out of his throat.
He tightly gripped the jade ruyi in his hand, his palms slightly sweaty, making the ruyi feel a bit slippery.
His gaze fell on the row of brides sitting by the bed.
They were wearing bright wedding dresses, phoenix crowns, and embroidered capes, sitting quietly there, waiting for him to shower them with affection.
Cheng Ge's eyes roamed among them and finally settled on the bride in the very middle.
His back pressed against the door, his hands trembling a little from excitement.
"Ladies, your husband is here!"
He took a deep breath, slowly stepped forward, and stood before the bride in the middle.
He placed the ruyi scepter under the veil and was about to lift the veil.
Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded in his ear: "Muyu, we're here."
Cheng Ge's eyes snapped open, still bleary, and he muttered under his breath, "Wife."
Lin Nanshu looked at Cheng Ge, who was drowsily calling out "Wife," and his expression stiffened for a moment.
Cheng Ge rubbed his eyes and realized he was lying with his head in Lin Nanshu's lap.
He let out a disappointed yawn, realizing it was just a dream.
"Sigh... If I'd known, I wouldn't have been so bashful. I should have lifted the veil quickly, at least to see what the girl in my dream looked like."
"Were you having a good dream?" Lin Nanshu helped Cheng Ge sit up and poured him a cup of tea to wake him up.
Cheng Ge took the tea, took a sip, and had a slightly lecherous grin: "Yeah, I dreamed about my wedding night."
Lin Nanshu's eyes darkened, and he turned his head to look out the window, saying nothing.
Cheng Ge stretched and chuckled, "Too bad I didn't even get a good look at the bride."
Lin Nanshu smiled awkwardly, lifted the carriage curtain and bent down to step out.
Cheng Ge quickly followed, jumping off the carriage in two steps.
He had barely gotten off the carriage and hadn't steadied himself when a shit-yellow blur lunged at him.
"Woof woof woof!!!"
Cheng Ge was knocked off balance by Dahuang and nearly fell to the ground. Lin Nanshu, quick as a flash, reached out and caught him firmly.
