Volume 2, Chapter 10 – Find Out for Yourself
What exactly Yunchou and the Vice Guild Leader said to each other, and what sort of understanding they reached, no one knew.
But the two chose a silence that spoke volumes.
After a few dozen seconds, Yunchou and the Vice Guild Leader who had been hiding behind the scenes stepped into the spotlight.
“The leader of the Holy Hand Knight, Karl, a Legendary-tier Paladin and the kingdom faction’s commander defending the Northern Fortress.”
Yunchou slowly recited Karl’s identity, an information every player already knew, then turned his gaze toward the figure suspended in the air, controlled by the pseudo-divine scroll Time Stop.
Because the guild’s players had been largely quiet during the earlier action, Yunchou’s sudden voice made him stand out.
The moment Yunchou spoke, it wasn’t only the guild members who noticed. Karl in the sky, the NPC soldiers inside the valley, Tianyin and Mengyao, all looked in unison.
“Outsiders……”
At the sight of Yunchou stepping forward to speak, even the simplest onlooker could tell Yunchou’s identity was not ordinary.
More than not ordinary, because Yunchou had just privately discussed matters with the Vice Guild Leader, in many ways he was already acting as the de facto leader of the guild’s players here.
Seeing Yunchou appear, the hot-tempered orc leader Orgum ground his teeth and glared at Yunchou as if he wanted to eat him alive.
If those spells in the sky and Karl’s strange paralysis had not stopped the situation, Orgum might have already led the NPC soldiers charging forward.

“You……”
Although Karl’s body was bound in midair by the pseudo-divine scroll, his mind still worked.
So when he saw Yunchou appear before him again, Karl realized that today’s events had all been led by this “outsider.”
“As a Legendary-tier Paladin, your most prominent Paladin skill is that form of holy flame burning across your body right now, isn’t it?”
Ignoring the furious stares from the paladin NPCs in the valley, Yunchou walked slowly toward Karl.
“I’m very familiar with that skill. The Paladin’s Light Form, using holy light to amplify one’s own physical strength. This skill can be said to be a Paladin’s chief fighting technique in battle.”
Karl remained silent and cold, only watching the approaching “outsider” Yunchou.
“After all, every skill has its cost, and the Paladin’s Light Form consumes holy light energy in large amounts, doesn’t it?”
『Eh, Samael, is that so?』
Hearing Yunchou’s words from afar, Tianyin curiously asked Samael in her mind.
「He’s right. The Paladin’s Light Form uses a huge amount of holy light. But remember, for a Legendary-tier Paladin, that consumption is still not that significant.」

『Eh……』
Tianyin blinked her eyes.
『So that means a Legendary-tier Paladin could theoretically maintain Light Form for a long time?』
「Mm… in theory, yes. But Paladins have many other moves that also require holy light. So they can’t just use all of it to sustain Light Form indefinitely.」
While Tianyin and Samael discussed a topic not too relevant to what Yunchou was saying, Yunchou resumed speaking in his slow way.
“Do you know why you can’t move now?”
“The reason is actually simple. Magic can only be countered by magic, and of course only to counter……”
Saying something that sounded oddly vague, Yunchou, in front of everyone, leaned over and whispered into the ear of a nearby player.
Then after that player left, Yunchou again fixed his gaze on Karl.
“Aren’t you curious what kind of magic can control a Legendary like you? Keep in mind, for most Legendaries, even forbidden magic cannot so casually bind them……”
Karl remained silent. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to speak but that the space itself was sealed by invisible power so he could not form words.

“Ah, I almost forgot, I can’t exactly have you speak right now, but fine, I’ll let you say something……”
After pretending to remember with a surprised look, Yunchou raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
“Snap.”
“What do you intend to do?”
Karl, stopped in midair by the invisible force, asked with an icy glare.
“What do I intend to do?”
Yunchou smiled slightly at Karl’s question.
“It’s simple, actually. I want you dead. Of course, as an ‘outsider’ you like to call me, I know very well that with our current strength we aren’t enough to take you down one on one.”
“Hmph……”
Even as the outsider spoke like that, Karl refused to accept those words as the full motive behind what had been set up to kill him.
An ambush set just to kill him? Even unable to move now, Karl knew that as Yunchou said, with their actual strength, if they truly acted, none of them were equal to him.

This gap was exactly the difference between white-tier templates and Legendary templates.
For example, two people at the same level but with different templates can have a huge disparity in power. Sure, the saying that many ants can bite an elephant to death exists, but facing Karl, tens of thousands of B-class spells and tens of thousands of supposedly guild players aiming to overwhelm him still presented a limited threat.
“Hmph… you really think you can kill me???”
“Well, of course… impossible. As the weakest of the blank players, I still have some resolve. Sir Paladin, I will always overestimate the strength of someone legendary like you rather than underestimate it.”
“And besides, I don’t necessarily need us to kill you……”
Yunchou said this as if stating something utterly ordinary. His face hardly changed.
“What I want is actually very, very simple……”
“That is for you to end yourself~”
“Paladin Captain Karl……”
