Volume 2, Chapter 21 – The Defeated Army

“Attack. Leave no one alive.”

The one leading this group of players was none other than the Vice Guild Leader who had been talking with Yunchou earlier.

After receiving the Job Change Scroll from Yunchou, the Vice Guild Leader followed his orders and brought the entire guild to pursue them.

Although the average player’s level and strength weren’t yet stronger than the native NPCs, what couldn’t be ignored was the overwhelming number of players. Their sheer population was simply too massive.

Not only that, players also had the ability to die and then revive.

To NPCs who couldn’t resurrect, players who could revive infinitely held an innate advantage.

At the Vice Guild Leader’s command, the players, already itching for battle, rushed forward all at once.

In an instant, the melee players activated their charge skills, charging toward the disorganized NPC formation that had just suffered an ambush.

The mages and ranger players raised their staves and bows, aiming toward the NPCs as they prepared their attacks.

The assassins disappeared into stealth, quietly sneaking toward the NPC side, while the priests began casting various amplitude buffs to enhance their allies.

Although the players outnumbered the NPCs by far, they were much more organized than the leaderless NPCs. Everyone did their job and performed their role exactly as their class demanded.

It was clear to see just how capable the Guild Kongjing truly was.

Once the players launched their assault, the NPCs, who were already thrown into chaos by the surprise attack, couldn’t even form an effective defense.

They were already a defeated army retreating from the Northern Fortress. After the ordeal in the valley, though they had managed to escape, the army’s morale had undoubtedly fallen to rock bottom.

Even though the few remaining commanders of the Kingdom Faction, including Orgum, the only surviving commander of the stronghold, were still resisting, they were surrounded by a group of players outnumbering them more than tenfold. Without question, it was only a matter of time before the entire force was wiped out.

To Tianyin, the scene before her was nothing but a one-sided massacre. The NPCs had lost all will to fight. Normally, an average NPC soldier could hold off several players at once, but now those same NPC soldiers were being chased down like frightened rats.

NPCs were constantly being killed by players, their bodies scattering into light particles that faded into the air.

“I surrender… I surrender…!”

An NPC dropped his weapon and tried to surrender, but the next second, the players around him cut him down, turning him into shimmering dust that vanished into the sky.

There was no doubt what the players’ intent was, they planned to kill every last NPC.

『Samael… we…』

Though she was, by nature, human, her Master was an NPC. Realizing that she might not escape unscathed herself, Tianyin proactively contacted Samael.

「Don’t say it. I already know.」

Samael’s voice in her mind was grave. There was no need to guess; she too understood how dire the situation was.

「Xiaoyin, we only have three minutes. In three minutes, we should be able to finish this…」

『Mm… understood…』

Although her disciple Mengyao was still beside her, at this moment Tianyin could no longer afford to wonder what Mengyao might think if she saw her true strength.

Now… the only thing to do was eliminate the players before her. Not to save the NPCs, but to save herself.

However, just as Tianyin was contacting Samael, a group of nearby players noticed the two girls, Tianyin and Mengyao, who were hiding quietly in a corner to avoid being caught in the chaos.

“Is that… a solo player loli?”

One of the players glanced over curiously.

“And an NPC too?”

Hearing that, a few nearby players who were enthusiastically slaughtering NPCs turned their heads toward them.

Sure enough, they spotted Tianyin and Mengyao, two little lolis.

“A solo player loli and a silver-haired NPC loli. Obviously not part of our guild. Let’s just kill them and be done with it.”

One player curled his lip. Though Tianyin looked quite cute, she was still, in the end, just a bundle of data.

But another player seemed to recall something, his expression turning uneasy.

“Wait, I think the Vice Guild Leader gave orders about that silver-haired NPC… not to provoke her…”

The player who had just spoken frowned impatiently.

“Ah, what a pain. Fine, we can’t touch the NPC, but what about the player? She’s fair game, right?”

“Yeah, it makes sense…”

And so, the group of players slowly began to close in on Mengyao.
