Volume 2, Chapter 36 – Uproar

It had been a week since the Graveyard began its war against the Kingdoms and Strongholds.

Although the time that passed was short, in the eyes of the players, the entire game world had undergone tremendous change.

From the day the Graveyard’s undead launched their assault on the central Kingdoms and the northern plains’ Strongholds, the territories under their control had been shrinking nonstop.

Cities fell one after another in the endless sea of undead. Gigantic Ghost Dragons and Bone Dragons of Epic-tier, one level below Legendary, appeared before the eyes of the world.

Every high-ranking figure from all factions was left stunned when the Graveyard revealed the horrifying power it held in its grasp.

In every battle against the Kingdoms and Strongholds, the Graveyard displayed an overwhelming, crushing strength.

In each engagement, the number of troops deployed by the Graveyard was nearly ten times greater than that of the Kingdom and Stronghold factions combined.

No, not just ten times. It should be said dozens of times greater.

Moreover, in every battle, the Graveyard dispatched thousands or even tens of thousands of Epic-tier Bone Dragons and Ghost Dragons.

The undead, fearless in the face of death, combined with numbers far exceeding those of the Kingdom and Stronghold soldiers, and bolstered by those vast hordes of Ghost Dragons and Bone Dragons, had completely seized control of the battlefield.

In just a single week, the armies under the Kingdoms and Strongholds suffered annihilation after annihilation. Of the Three Southern Empires, the Griffin Empire had already been destroyed by the Graveyard, and among the Seven Northern Kingdoms, two now stood at the brink of ruin.

Within the Strongholds, countless clans were wiped out, and the number of fallen Beastmen far surpassed the casualties of the Kingdoms.

In this short span of a week, the Graveyard had demonstrated its terrifying offensive might to the players, and to the rulers of the world alike.

For as long as anyone could remember, people had thought of the undead as Chaotic Good beings. But now, at last, they saw their true nature.

Had the undead merely been quietly gathering strength over a million years of low-profile existence?

Just one week, and they could face two major factions head-on, crushing both with ease.

Too strong.

And because of the overwhelming might the Graveyard’s undead had displayed, nearly one-third of all players around the world chose to join the Graveyard, reincarnating as members of the Undead race.

The tide had turned.

With the influx of countless players, the Graveyard’s strength swelled further, and their pace of sweeping through the battlefield became even faster.

During this short week, apart from the Grand Duke Sargus, who continued to guard the Gate of Planes, the undead commanders leading the Graveyard’s numerous battlefronts had also begun to enter the eyes of the public.

Frost Dragon of the Thrones, Legendary-tier Abomination, Legendary-tier Ghoul King, Legendary-tier Headless Knight, Legendary-tier Dread Knight, Legendary-tier Skeleton King, Legendary-tier Lich King, Legendary-tier Banshee Queen, Legendary-tier True Ancestor of Vampires, Legendary-tier Crypt Spider Queen, Legendary-tier Gargoyle, Legendary-tier Angel of Death…

Each Legendary of the Graveyard commanded a front, and it was precisely because of these Legends that the Graveyard’s upper-tier combat strength far exceeded that of the Kingdoms and Strongholds combined.

Not to mention the rumored Throne-class Frost Dragon suppressing the lines.

……

Not far from the frontlines where the Kingdom and the Graveyard clashed, in an unknown small town’s tavern.

Because of the ongoing war between the Kingdom and the Graveyard, what used to be a quiet little town had become unusually lively.

The reason for this sudden bustle was none other than the players coming and going through the town, the ones NPCs called “outsiders.”

The presence of these “outsiders,” or players, had filled the tranquil town with noise and energy. The root of this was its location, close to the battlefield between the Kingdom and the Graveyard. These players, involved in the Kingdom’s defense, naturally set their respawn points as near as possible, and thus this nameless town gradually became lively.

The tavern, of course, was where players exchanged information, rested, and chatted.

“Hey, hey, did you hear? One of the Top Ten Guilds, Kongjing, sent players on a secret mission not long ago, and their entire group got wiped out!”

Inside the tavern, a player with a shifty, sneaky look leaned toward his companion and spoke.

“What? Wiped out? For real? I thought those players sent out were top-tier. How could they all suddenly get wiped like that?”

Hearing this, the player widened his eyes in disbelief and let out a shout of surprise.

The sudden outburst drew the attention of almost everyone in the tavern, who turned to look at the startled player.

Realizing his outcry had caught everyone’s attention, the player awkwardly forced a laugh.

“Sorry, everyone, I got a little excited… haha…”

Some of the others in the tavern, however, didn’t seem satisfied with that.

“‘Sorry’ doesn’t cut it. If it’s that shocking, then tell us already. Don’t tell me we’re not allowed to know?”

“This… well, I actually don’t know the full story either…”

The embarrassed player’s eyes darted toward his sneaky-looking companion, clearly selling him out.

The sneaky one sighed helplessly, seeing he had no choice but to step up.

“To tell you the truth, everyone, this news will be all over the forums soon anyway. I just happened to hear it earlier than most. If you’re interested, you could wait and see when it gets posted.”

“If I had time to scroll the forums, I’d already be on the frontlines killing undead!” a player more focused on grinding and questing said irritably.

That line struck a chord with the others, and soon the tavern erupted in agreement.

“Yeah, exactly, no harm in telling us now.”

“Right, it’ll be public in a few hours anyway, what’s the big deal?”

Finally, the sneaky player decided it was fine to share early and spilled what he knew.

But when everyone heard the story, they all shocked.

“What…? Tens of thousands of players from Kongjing’s secret mission were wiped out by a single NPC?!”

“What…? The NPC who annihilated them was actually a frail, adorable silver-haired little girl?!”

“What…? Kongjing’s Vice Guild Leader suddenly died while playing the game at home?!”

It was all so shocking that everyone could only gasp and murmur in disbelief, wondering if such a story could even be true.

None of them noticed.

At the edge of the tavern, a girl wearing a veil, her long hair black as ink, with pointed elven ears peeking through, quietly stood up and slipped away without anyone realizing when she left…
