Volume 2, Chapter 39 – I Will Accept It

The Legendary never perishes, the Thrones are eternal.

Do Legends really never perish? Are Thrones truly eternal?

No one knew for sure. But when it came to the Thrones… people instinctively avoided talking about them. After all, a Throne wasn’t much different from a god out of myth.

“Orgum, even if your combat strength surpasses mine, this idea of handing command to someone else… I did agree just now, but what if that existence refuses? What do we do then?”

Hearing that, a cold sneer spread across Orgum’s face.

“Of course we’ll continue begging that existence to become our commander. I know what you humans are thinking. You’re afraid of losing your precious command, aren’t you? Hmph. You humans have never forgotten how to fight amongst yourselves. Do you think we Beastmen don’t know that?”

“You…! Don’t talk nonsense! I’m only worried about the lives of our remaining comrades!”

The man being mocked flushed red, but his glare stayed sharp.

“I’m sincerely worried about the safety of the thousand or so human brothers we have left, Orgum, don’t you dare slander me!”

Orgum wasn’t one to back down either.

“And what, you think you’re the only one worried about your human brothers’ safety? You think I don’t care about the seven hundred Beastmen still under me? You Kingdom people… don’t I already know what you’re like? Always tearing at each other from within. Other than Karl and his Paladins, to me, every last one of you from the Kingdom is nothing but short-sighted trash!”

The Beastmen’s way of speaking was always blunt and straightforward, and so was Orgum’s rebuttal.

“In short, if you don’t want to give up your precious power, you can leave. Go find your own way out of the Graveyard’s territory. Of course, if you want to stay with me, then stay, and hand over command to that one.”

“…”

The remaining Kingdom officers glanced at each other. In the end, most of them silently chose to leave.

Only Orgum and the Kingdom officer who had been arguing with him remained.

“Hey, Sharl, you’re not leaving? Come with us. Let these Beastmen go and get themselves trapped by that little girl.”

One of the departing officers turned back, looking puzzled, trying to persuade the NPC commander named Sharl.

“No need. I’ll stay. I want to see with my own eyes how this Beastman gets crushed by her. Only then will I be satisfied.”

Clearly, he was the type who wouldn’t stop until he hit the wall himself.

The other officers, who weren’t all that familiar with Sharl to begin with, said nothing more. They quietly left, taking a portion of the NPC soldiers with them.

Soon, those officers led more than half of the Kingdom troops away from the temporary resting site, heading back in the same direction as their retreat, the Kingdom’s side.

“They’re all a bunch of self-righteous fools. Even now, they can’t see that the only one who can truly lead us out of the Graveyard’s encirclement is that existence. Marching back the way they came, I give it a few days before they run into another undead army.”

Orgum’s eyes were cold as he watched them go, his lips curling into an unreadable grin.

As for Sharl, who earlier didn’t seem to think much of Orgum, his expression remained calm.

“That kind of attitude only shows what’s in their hearts. Right now, we’re already on the brink of despair. If those backstabbers stayed, they’d just drag us down later, even with a Throne’s protection…”

“What a fine performance, Sharl.”

Orgum smiled faintly, looking quite pleased.

“Likewise. No need to be so modest. At least now, there’s no one left to stand in our way. We can hand over command without worrying about schemers plotting behind our backs.”

“Come to think of it, back when Karl was still around, he mentioned your name to me a few times. Said you were a calm, level-headed man. A promising young talent~”

“Did he…”

At Orgum’s praise, Sharl fell silent, then gave a somewhat strained smile.

“Let’s not talk about the captain anymore. We should focus on handing over command. After all… I still want to live. I want to make it back alive.”

“Haha…”

Orgum laughed heartily.

“I feel the same, Sharl. I also want to make it back alive…”

“…”

A few minutes later, Sharl and Orgum led the few hundred remaining Beastmen and human soldiers to stand before Tianyin.

Then they made their request, to entrust her with full command of the army.

“Ehhh—ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh…?!?!”

Even though Tianyin had mentally prepared herself for something like this, when it actually happened, she couldn’t help letting out an astonished cry.

“Eh… this kind of thing… it’s just way too sudden, isn’t it?”

“No… great Throne… though we do not know your name… we wish to ask you to take command of us. No, to be exact, we wish for you… to help us.”

“But… but I’m not actually a Throne…”

Tianyin thought the best way to refuse was to tell the truth.

And the best way to tell the truth was to reveal her own ability.

But even after Tianyin said that, both Orgum and Sharl looked at her with the same expression, one that said, “We know you’re a Throne, we believe everything you say, but please still accept our request.”

Seriously, why do your faces all have subtitles written on them…

Tianyin grumbled inwardly.

But the situation turned out differently from what she’d expected.

“But… I really can’t accept your command. As you can see… I’m just a little girl who doesn’t understand anything… having you do this honestly makes me feel really troubled…”

“Please don’t worry about that.”

At Tianyin’s hesitation, Sharl wore a confident look, as if he had already anticipated this.

“Both Orgum and I have experience commanding armies. In that regard, we can fully assist you in handling military matters. So you don’t have to worry about not knowing how to lead.”

“Eh… but…”

Just as Tianyin opened her mouth to say more, a voice suddenly echoed in her mind.

「Accept them, Xiaoyin…」

And so…

As if guided by something unseen, Tianyin spoke the next words.

“I… I will accept it…”
