Volume 2, Chapter 42 – Xingyu Muxi?

As one of the Graveyard’s more sluggish, yet unexpectedly sharp-minded Legendaries.

The Abomination was tasked with purging the remnants of Kingdom forces that lingered within the Graveyard’s newly conquered territories.

The reason a Legendary Abomination had suddenly been assigned such a cleanup operation was directly tied to the arrival of a certain Legendary Death Knight named Karl, who had recently joined the Graveyard faction.

Of course, placing the Abomination so far behind the frontlines had its own reasons.

When war broke out between the Graveyard and the forces of the Kingdom and Strongholds, for some unknown reason, the Abomination had repeatedly wandered into the Academy’s domain, openly exuding hostility without restraint.

Anyone with eyes could see that the creature was deliberately provoking the Academy. Now, as a neutral power, the Academy’s stance had always been simple: you can destroy the world for all we care, as long as you don’t bother us, we’ll just open a small dimension and hide away.

However, with the Abomination provoking them again and again, even the usually peace-loving Academy couldn’t just sit still after being challenged at their doorstep, could they?

Yet, just as the Academy was preparing to act, the Abomination was recalled by the Undead Grand Duke, Sargus, and reassigned to stabilize the rear lines.

This kind of mission could easily have been handled by one or two Epic-rank undead, but since the Graveyard could not afford to make more enemies at that moment, Sargus decided to keep the most restless one, the Abomination, effectively under house arrest, forbidding it from causing more trouble.

The Abomination possessed a colossal body comparable to that of the Beastmen’s strongest species, the Behemoth.

But its body was in a pitifully broken state.

It was a monster stitched together from more than a dozen different corpses, its face grotesque and horrifying, with a gaping hole in its chest where a massive, blood-red heart throbbed slowly.

Its enormous frame was covered in rotting flesh and stitched seams. Though it had two arms, one of them was pitifully small, barely the size of a baby’s.

Yes, that was the Abomination.

From the moment it was born, it had been a terrifying sight. But if people thought it was a natural creation of the Graveyard, they would be gravely mistaken.

Indeed, the Abomination was a Legendary of the Graveyard. But hundreds of thousands of years ago, when it was first created… it had been born in the Academy.

Back then, the Academy had undergone a craze of studying the undead from the Graveyard. It was meant to be a purely academic pursuit, but that fever of research drove those so-called scholars, mages who claimed to dedicate their lives to the pursuit of knowledge, to create one abomination after another.

And the Abomination was one such creation from that bizarre period.

At the time, the Abomination had even naively regarded the mages who made it as father figures.

“How… laughable…”

From its stitched and torn mouth came a hoarse, abyssal growl, echoing like a voice from the depths.

Behind it stood a line of similar creatures, also patched together from corpses. And behind them were ranks of silent skeleton soldiers, their empty sockets burning with pale blue flames as they clutched bows and other weapons.

“Once I finish wiping out the remnants squirming in our territory… it’ll be time for me to take revenge on you hypocrites of the Academy…”

Just as the Abomination said.

The true reason the Graveyard, after slumbering for over a million years, had suddenly started this war.

At its core, it was nothing but revenge.

Revenge.

And revenge.

To strike down the living with the blade of vengeance.

Hundreds of thousands of years ago, when the Abomination was first created, though its appearance was monstrous beyond measure…

Its heart had been pure. After all, no creature is born overflowing with malice, except, perhaps, for the demons born from the malicious will of the Abyssal Lord deep within the Infernal Abyss…

At that time, the Abomination wasn’t even called “Abomination.” It had only one designation, No. 1.

Back then, it had been grateful to those who created it, those who gave it life.

But…

That had all been a mistake.

Only now did the Abomination understand the truth, that in the eyes of the world, it was nothing but something to be feared, to be despised, a being inherently evil and chaotic.

Sometimes, identity alone decides one’s fate. People say that everything in this world is equal, but whether one is born of Order or Chaos… that’s already determined from the very beginning.

While lost in thought, a Death Knight riding a skeletal warhorse galloped toward it.

“What is it?”

The Abomination’s deep, guttural voice rumbled like thunder from the depths of decay. Since it was a creature made from countless broken bodies, even its voice carried an eerie resonance.

“An outsider has crossed the boundary.”

An outsider, yes, an outsider. The Abomination knew well who they were. Most undead in the Graveyard were mindless, driven only by the instinct to kill, mere puppets.

But those outsiders who had reincarnated as undead, players, retained their rational minds.

Their addition had greatly increased the efficiency of the Graveyard’s command structure, since even though their combat ability wasn’t great, each could lead small units of undead.

So when the Death Knight brought this report, the Abomination did take it seriously.

“An outsider? To join us?”

It asked that because recently, more and more outsiders had indeed joined the Graveyard. Naturally, its first assumption was that this one came for the same reason.

However, things weren’t that simple.

“No… this outsider is extremely hostile toward us.”

“Extremely hostile? What do you mean?”

The Abomination’s decayed face twisted into a look of ghastly confusion.

“Yes, the report says she’s female, and displays characteristics of the Elf Race. Her class seems to be that of an elven ranger.”

Hearing that, the Abomination felt something was off.

“An elf? We haven’t gone to war with Nature yet, have we? Are the elves planning to get involved?”

“No, my lord. According to our scouts, this elven girl seems to be looking for someone.”

“Looking for someone? She came all the way into Graveyard territory to look for someone? Even if she’s an elf, that’s nothing short of provocation… deal with that outsider quickly. We can’t let her keep searching.”

“But… my lord…”

The Death Knight hesitated at the order.

“What is it now?”

“It’s like this… that outsider… is very strong. Her tier isn’t just Green-tier. She also wields what appears to be a continuously evolving Throne-class Divine Artifact…”

“What? And why didn’t you say that earlier?!”

The Abomination rose, its towering figure casting a shadow over the ground.

“That outsider’s name… do you know it?”

“Some of the outsiders in our ranks recognize her… I believe her name was… Xingyu Muxi…”
