Volume 2, Chapter 60 – Conversation

The Seven Deadly Sins.

Also known as the Seven Cardinal Sins, each one represents a fundamental vice, Wrath, Lust, Greed, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, and Pride.

Although, to some extent, the world knew of the Seven Deadly Sins’ existence, people only understood the concept of the sins themselves. They never knew that the Seven Deadly Sins could manifest in physical form as living entities.

Thus, neither the NPCs nor the players of this game would ever imagine that such beings could appear as living existences within it.

The Undead Grand Duke Sargus before Tianyin made no move to attack. Though behind him, the True Ancestor of Vampires and the Throne-class Frost Dragon Ysera both unleashed an oppressive, suffocating aura, that was all, there were no signs of them preparing to strike.

“Xiaoyin…”

“Master…”

From behind came Xingyu Muxi’s and Xiaomengyao’s worried voices.

Tianyin wanted to reply, to say “I’m fine,” but she knew full well that in her current state, even moving her body was difficult.

“Who exactly are you?”

The question escaped her lips, sudden and unbidden, spoken in a tone of inquiry. Though the voice was hers, Tianyin realized that it wasn’t her will speaking. It felt as though her body had been forcibly taken over… made to speak on its own.

『Was that you, Samael?』

Without a doubt, she immediately guessed who was controlling her. The voice that soon echoed in her mind confirmed it.

「It’s me, Xiaoyin.」

「I did take control of your body, but Xiaoyin, I had a reason for doing so.」

Samael sounded like she intended to explain, and with no control over her body, Tianyin could only listen quietly as Samael continued.

「Xiaoyin, the reason you lost control of your body just now wasn’t because of me.」

That first line alone left Tianyin stunned.

『Not because of you?』

「Yes, Xiaoyin. But there isn’t much time, so let me warn you briefly…」

After a brief pause, Samael’s voice spoke softly within her mind.

「If my guess is right… The Undead Grand Duke, Sargus, not only knows of my existence but may also understand the concept of the Seven Deadly Sins’ manifestation. More than that… he himself might be one of the Original Sins.」

Tianyin didn’t even know how to process the first part of that statement. But the last line, Samael’s final words, left her shocked beyond belief.

『T-That kind of thing… that can’t be…』

Though she was stunned in disbelief, the world outside continued to move. Samael, now in full control of Tianyin’s body, began to exchange words with the Undead Grand Duke.

“Undead Grand Duke Sargus. Do you recognize me? Or perhaps… you are one of us?”

“I think,” Sargus replied with a faint smile, his gaze steady and calm, “we should talk somewhere more private.”

“I didn’t come here to fight you this time. Although I can tell your Throne-class strength can only last for five minutes at most.”

A simple sentence. Plain in tone, almost casual in delivery, yet that one sentence effortlessly revealed Tianyin’s deepest secret, the five-minute limit of her Seven Deadly Sins power.

However, his words seemed to reach her only, spoken through some kind of mental transmission. Still, the truth was clear that her final trump card had already been laid bare before the Undead Grand Duke’s eyes.

“I only wish to speak with you privately. If I truly meant to cause trouble, I would’ve attacked you from the very beginning.”

Seeing Samael’s guarded expression while controlling Tianyin’s body, Sargus spoke again in a slow, unhurried tone.

Those words made Samael abandon any thought of further resistance.

“Let’s go to the Frost Dragon’s back.”

“Very well. Ysera isn’t an outsider to me. Even if she hears our conversation, she won’t say anything.”

Sargus seemed to agree wholeheartedly. With a faint nod, his figure vanished from sight without a sound.

Inside Tianyin’s mind, Samael’s voice continued.

「Xiaoyin, it seems the Grand Duke truly doesn’t intend to fight us. Let’s follow him.」

『Mm… but what about Sister Xiaomu and the others?』

At that, Samael let out a soft sigh.

「Don’t worry. The Grand Duke won’t harm them. And knowing Sister Xiaomu’s level-headedness, even though she’s worried about you, she won’t act rashly before a battle truly breaks out. You can trust her.」

『…Alright.』

At that moment, Tianyin felt a deep sense of helplessness.

Before, she had thought that even if she couldn’t win, at least she could protect those dear to her. Whether it was Sister Xiaomu or Xiaomengyao, she believed that the power of the Seven Deadly Sins, the bug-like ability she’d gained, would allow her to protect them all.

But now…

Facing a true Throne-class being, Tianyin realized just how far from strong she really was.

『I’m still… far too weak…』

She whispered to herself deep within.

As she pondered how she might become stronger, Samael, still in control of her body, had already reached the Frost Dragon’s back.

There, the weathered man stood silently, waiting.

When Tianyin, under Samael’s control, stood before him, Sargus finally spoke.

“I know you have many questions. I’ll explain them all in due time.”

His tone was straightforward, yet carried the unshakable weight of someone used to commanding others.

Before Tianyin could respond, Sargus continued.

“Before that, I must ask, how should I address you now? As Wrath, one of the Seven Deadly Sins? As Samael, the former Blood Knight? Or as the girl you are now, Tianyin?”

Though Samael was the one currently in control, her answer was unexpectedly simple.

“Tianyin.”

“…Understood.”

Sargus nodded slightly.

“Then, Tianyin, I have one question for you. What do you think… of the future of my Graveyard?”
