Volume 2, Chapter 80 – Graveyard Meeting

While Tianyin and her group were still busy setting up the Ninth Faction 【Dawn】, the rulers of the major factions in the Main World discovered something very strange. The Graveyard, which had been attacking with rampant momentum and stood among the major fronts, suddenly pulled back its forces.

Yes.

Not only were the NPC rulers puzzled, even the players who had hoped to earn merits from the war began to question what was happening. The Graveyard’s sudden withdrawal of troops was, frankly, far too abrupt. Not only did they pull back, even more surprising was that the Graveyard handed over territories they were on the verge of fully occupying. Kingdom and Stronghold had those lands reclaimed.

There was no logic to this move, and both of the two major factions and the onlooking players began to wildly speculate what the Graveyard was up to.

…….

While outside factions and players guessed about what big move the Graveyard might be planning, deep inside the Graveyard’s core territory in the Main World, at the Gate of Planes where the floating black castle stands, a meeting that would decide the Graveyard’s future was already in session.

If members of other factions or players had been present, they might have recognized that every participant in the meeting was a Legendary. To be precise, all of the Graveyard’s high command had gathered.

On the throne at the center of the council hall, the undead Grand Duke Sargus sat clad in jet-black armor, looking down on the Graveyard’s legendaries below.

“Grand Duke… all the legendaries are present.”

At that moment, the beautiful girl with blood-red eyes and wearing a blood-red dress, known as the True Ancestor of Vampires Lilith, elegantly approached Sargus and bowed.

“All present? Then let us begin this sudden meeting now.”

The eyes hidden beneath his helmet slowly opened, and in a single instant, an oppressive, suffocating aura began to spread from Sargus, filling every corner of the black castle. Seeing Grand Duke Sargus suddenly assume that posture, the Graveyard legendaries present felt a chill in their hearts.

After Lilith returned to her place, Sargus continued.

“The reason I summoned you all is actually to personally give you an order.”

“But before I say that, you must be aware of those outsiders beginning to leave our Graveyard, yes?”

“We know about this. They were nothing more than outsiders whose strength was no better than cannon fodder. Losing them hurts not at all.”

Those words came from the Gargoyle King. As a gargoyle, he not only could release piercing sonic waves that cut through everything, he also had the bug-like ability that, once petrified, greatly increased his physical defense and continuously restored his condition, while granting immunity to all magic.

“Exactly. For us, those outsiders’ departure only makes troop command a little harder. It will not affect us in the slightest.”

The speaker was Fischerna, the Headless Knight who had acted as vanguard in the attack on the Northern Fortress.

As Fischerna finished speaking, the legendaries present voiced their opinions, some in hoarse tones, some sharp, some terrifying. Surprisingly, their views were almost unanimous. They all agreed that the outsiders, meaning the players, leaving would not damage the Graveyard now enjoying such strong momentum.

“I understand your thoughts on this, but what I am about to say is not very related to that matter.”

Sargus spoke slowly.

“From now on, I forbid you from rashly provoking war. Instead, you will begin to consolidate the territories you have taken and lie low.”

On the surface it was a very simple order. But the legendaries present found it hard to accept. The one who could not accept it the most was the Headless Knight Fischerna.

“Grand Duke, why issue such an order all of a sudden? The Kingdom’s collapse is right before our eyes. We cannot let them have time to catch their breath and recover. Grand Duke, if we do this we will miss our chance!”

Admittedly, Sargus’ move seemed wrong and unnecessary. Everyone with sight could see the Kingdom’s downfall approaching, yet the Graveyard suddenly stopped. Wasn’t that giving the Kingdom time to breathe?

“I know your thoughts, Fischerna.”

Sargus pressed his helmet as if troubled and as if trying to rub temples he could not touch.

“But now I have another matter I need you to do. Without provoking war, I want you to begin building new plane portals to the Graveyard plane in your respective jurisdictions.”

Create new portals? The legendaries looked at one another, puzzled at Sargus’s idea.

“I hope you will not question my order. At present we have already heavily struck the Kingdom and the Stronghold. Therefore I think it is time to stop. If we do not stop, even if we destroy the Kingdom and the Stronghold, the other five major factions will not stand idly by.”

“When necessary they will abandon prejudice between order and chaos and unite against us.”

“Let them come!”

As Sargus finished, a Legendary with the upper body of a woman and the lower body like a giant spider-insect let out a sharp, furious cry.

“If I ever meet that damned Elven Queen, for tens of thousands of years I have wanted to rip that former sister of mine apart!”

Eight hairy spider legs beat the floor as she spoke.

“Grand Duke, we are not afraid of them uniting against us!”

This time the speaker was Kersu, famed for wisdom and calm, the former top disciple of the Academy’s preeminent archmage, now the legendary Lich King.

“Undead fear not death. We should show them how strong we undead are, strong enough to make them tremble!”

After Kersu spoke, the legendaries present chimed in.

“Indeed, Grand Duke, if it comes to that, we will all fight for the Graveyard!”

“We will not retreat even one step!”

Watching the legendaries express their resolve, Sargus felt both pleased and deeply worried at the same time.
