Volume 2, Chapter 103 – In the End, I Was Still Too Late
In the sky above, endless light flickered. No one could clearly see what was happening up there; the manifestations of the Plane Powers were now all shrouded within that ceaselessly blazing radiance. The heavens themselves grew brighter.
The coalition forces couldn’t sense much from the light spreading across the sky, but the undead of the Graveyard could feel it clearly.
Danger.
And in the next instant, that vast, boundless light, which filled the sky and dominated their vision, descended.
Before anyone could react, it had already enveloped the undead at the foot of Hyjal Holy Mountain.
“No… this is…!”
At first, it looked like nothing more than a blinding light covering them. But upon contact with it, the Lich King Kersu’s voice rose in shock.
“It’s a power that erases us undead at the level of the rules themselves!”
Yes, the rules. Plane Power, just as its name implied, was the combined might of an entire plane. When the full power of a plane was gathered for an attack, its force surpassed all imagination.
It no longer merely inflicted harm upon its target. It erased them on the level of existence itself, body and soul, completely wiped from reality.
Under such laws, even with the Graveyard’s countless undead legions, they had no means of resistance.
“So this is… Plane Power?”
In Kersu’s hollow gaze, the seemingly endless sea of skeletons before him had begun to dissolve into motes of light, vanishing into the air. From the lowest skeleton soldiers to the mightiest bone dragons.
Under the shroud of that radiance, none could resist. No matter how they roared or howled, those meant to be erased were erased all the same.

The Legendary beings of the Graveyard had imagined before how they might meet defeat, but never, not even in their darkest thoughts, had they envisioned being so utterly crushed at the very brink of victory.
Because the light’s reach was vast beyond measure, when it finally faded, some of the Graveyard’s armies remained. But compared to the once endless sea of undead… Now, not even a tenth of their forces survived.
“How… how could this happen…?”
The Headless Knight Fischerna murmured, her trembling voice filled with disbelief.
“We… what happened to us…?”
Even as a Legendary herself, she could not believe what her eyes saw. Those were once endless legions, the undead armies that had filled the world with fear.
Billions of undead.
Millions of bone dragons.
And yet… in the wake of a single beam of light, more than half were gone.
“This must be an illusion! It has to be! The Graveyard couldn’t possibly be defeated so easily!”
The Crypt Spider Queen’s face was frozen in disbelief. And the other Legendary beings present were no different, they refused to accept what they saw.
“Impossible! Absolutely impossible! The Graveyard cannot lose!”
“Even now, we will not be defeated!”
They had basked too long in the dream of victory. When that dream shattered, none of them wanted to face reality. They clung to the illusion of their past triumphs, refusing to awaken from the dream.

But… Could denial really change anything?
“Look carefully…”
The Lich King Kersu’s voice echoed softly, the only one among them who still retained reason.
“All of you… look closely at the truth before your eyes.”
“Of our undead legions, less than one in ten remain.”
“Of the seven million bone dragons we sent forth, only a few hundred thousand are left.”
“With losses like these… we are no longer any match for the coalition.”
“For now… before the coalition even realizes what has happened to us, we must retreat…”
He turned his gaze toward the Thrones around him.
“My lords… perhaps, we truly were wrong.”
“…”
Everyone fell silent.
Indeed, the Grand Duke of the Undead, Sargus, had already told them to stop. He had warned them that the Graveyard had seized enough territory.

But they ignored his concern and chose to keep fighting.
Perhaps… Sargus had already foreseen this outcome long ago.
How laughable.
Blinded by vengeance, they had brought this ruin upon themselves. Their arrogance had dragged the Graveyard from the heavens into the depths of hell within mere minutes.
The heritage and strength that had taken millions of years to build… All of it was annihilated by their own foolishness.
“Were we… wrong?”
Fischerna murmured quietly.
And just as the Legendary undead were beginning to feel deep remorse for defying their Grand Duke…
The next wave of the Plane Power’s assault arrived.
This time, the boundless light gathered into a single point, then transformed into a beam of searing brilliance that shot straight toward where the Legendary undead stood.
There was no doubt that this attack was deliberate. If that beam struck, it would erase them all, body and soul, under the force of the Plane Power’s laws.
A crushing sense of death pressed down upon them. As the Legendary undead instinctively looked up toward the heavens…
The beam was already before them!
The suddenness of the strike left them no time to react.

None could evade it.
Despair spread across every Legendary’s heart.
Even Kersu himself had no way to counter it.
Was this the end?
Would the Graveyard be erased here and now?
Were they the ones who had doomed it with their own hands?
But then…
The beam suddenly stopped.
A figure, one so familiar that every undead recognized it instantly, appeared before the light. With a single effortless motion, the figure blocked the beam with his sword.
The sight left every Legendary undead overwhelmed with emotion.
A faint sigh escaped from the figure.
“In the end… I was still too late…”
