Volume 2, Chapter 108 – You Still Can’t Die

“Hah…”

A deep, long breath escaped.

Though this body was now nothing but that of an undead, it still carried a weight that could not be described.

Even as a Throne-class, Sargus knew full well that he was at the end of his strength.

No, calling it “the end of his strength” was already putting it nicely. The power within his body had been nearly exhausted, and by now, the only thing keeping him going was the sheer will to keep fighting.

Even so, Sargus understood, he could not fall yet.

The Plane Powers had vanished, but the undead of the Graveyard had not yet withdrawn.

He had promised to cover their retreat, and so he had to buy them as much time as possible.

If it weren’t for Sargus being not only a Graveyard Throne but also wielding the Throne Power of Greed from the Seven Deadly Sins, this kind of “trade injury for injury” fighting style would have been impossible for any other Throne-class to pull off.

After all, with two Throne Powers combined, Sargus’ true strength was far beyond a mere sum of one plus one.

At the level of a Throne, even the smallest increase in power could become overwhelming. Let alone possessing a second Throne Power on top of one’s own.

The Seven Deadly Sins—Greed.

Just like that girl named “Tianyin” he had met before, Sargus too was one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

To be precise, the Power of Greed within Sargus had gone berserk for the first time in history when he met Tianyin.

Not only had his Greed run wild, but he’d even felt it trying to leave his body, as though it wanted to come into that girl, Tianyin.

In the span of millions of years, this was the first time Sargus’ Throne Power had ever rampaged, even under his deliberate guidance. And at that moment, Sargus understood what was so extraordinary about that girl called Tianyin.

She was not human at all… she was a vessel.

A vessel created to house the Seven Original Sins of the world.

If the future could be foreseen, then Tianyin, who bore all seven sins, Wrath, Greed, Lust, Gluttony, Pride, Envy, and Sloth, would surely become the strongest being in existence.

That was the very reason Sargus had shown her such unconditional goodwill back then.

High in the sky, Sargus now stood alone.

Behind him, supported by the Graveyard’s legends, the remaining undead army had vanished beneath Hyjal Holy Mountain. It was clear that the legends had carried out Sargus’ orders with utmost care this time.

With this, they should have made it back safely, right?

Sargus thought quietly to himself.

No. I… can’t go back anymore.

Can’t go back.

The moment he thought of returning, Sargus immediately denied the notion himself.

He knew his own condition all too well.

At this moment, his body was on the verge of collapse.

Though he was undead, the attacks of the Plane Powers were beyond reason.

Having taken them head-on, Sargus could no longer muster even a trace of strength…

And yet, even so, he gritted his teeth and tightly clenched the sword in his hand.

In the sky before him, the expressionless Heavenly Father, the Fortress Emperor, the Abyssal Lord, the Knight King, and the Prophet…

These Throne-class leaders of the factions appeared in his sight.

“Sargus, I admit that you are one of the strongest faction leaders I’ve ever seen.”

The one speaking was Heavenly Father, his face blank.

“With your own strength, you gravely wounded two major factions. Since the world’s creation, you are the first Throne to stand against the Plane Powers directly.”

“But now, it’s time to end this.”

Heavenly Father slowly shook his head.

Then, in his hand appeared a holy sword nearly identical to the one wielded by the Twelve-Winged Archangel earlier.

“Don’t blame us. Blame your own greed. Since you wished to unite the entire main world under your Graveyard…”

But Sargus sneered inwardly with contempt.

At this point, he no longer had the energy to waste words on them. Before him, the five faction leaders were already preparing for battle.

Clearly, these five Thrones intended to attack him together…

Together…

To be honest, at this point, Sargus could barely even hold his sword, much less fight.

He could no longer keep battling.

But even so…

‘If it’s a fight they want, then I, Sargus, will… fight to the very end.’

“Undead Grand Duke Sargus, today you will fall under the combined might of five Thrones. Consider it an honorable death.”

Heavenly Father spoke slowly, without even a hint of emotion.

“Is that so?”

“Yes, Sargus. I can see it. You’re at your limit, unable to summon the power to fight.”

“Though I can’t deny the chance you might still struggle, the five of us striking together is the greatest respect we can give you, Undead Grand Duke.”

“As it should be.” Sargus murmured softly.

Heavenly Father said nothing more, lowering his gaze.

“Rest in peace, Sargus.”

This time, the Fortress Emperor’s heavy voice rumbled beside him.

As his words fell, the sky dimmed once again.

An unseen power gathered in the air.

But this was no longer the divine and awe-inspiring energy of the Plane Powers from before.

It was higher, absolute, an oppressive force that could not be defied or resisted.

This power itself was the essence of a Throne.

The rulers of factions, the decision-makers, the absolute authorities.

They possessed supreme dominion, and with it, the mightiest power their factions could wield.

Feeling the overwhelming pressure radiating from the Thrones before him, Sargus knew exactly what awaited him. He had thought of resisting, but by now, even lifting his sword was nearly impossible.

“To die at the hands of five Thrones… and to have already crippled two Plane Powers before that…”

“In a million years, I, Sargus, can say it was worth it…”

At that thought, Sargus accepted his fate and closed his eyes.

So be it.

‘Just… so be it.’

‘As Greed, I was never truly greedy.’

‘What I, Sargus, craved… were the ones I picked up along the way…’

‘Those “family” members abandoned by the world.’

‘For my family… What is there to fear in death?’

But at that moment, beside his ear, a girl’s voice, so familiar it was impossible to mistake, suddenly echoed.

“No, Sargus, you can’t die yet~”

“As my one and only vassal, Sargus, without my permission, you are not allowed to die.”
