Volume 1, Chapter 23 – The Eight Great Factions (Part 1)

“Well, it looks like you really have no idea what the Sanctuary is, do you?”

Seeing Tianyin’s still confused expression, Yivrea couldn’t help but show an amused smile.

“How about this, since you’re a guest, why don’t you come inside my Sanctuary first? That way I can slowly explain to you what the Sanctuary and the Eight Great Factions are all about.”

“Mhm.”

Tianyin nodded. For now, she really didn’t know what she was supposed to do. Since someone was willing to teach her about this world’s faction system, she couldn’t exactly refuse.

After all, that damn System Light Orb hadn’t bothered to explain any of this to her beforehand.

“Then please follow me, little one~”

The girl smiled easily and turned to head into the Sanctuary behind her.

Watching her back as she walked away, Tianyin hesitated for a moment before taking small steps to follow her.

Soon, under the girl’s lead, Tianyin entered the interior of the grand hall. Inside, apart from the reliefs and runes carved into the walls, it was surprisingly spacious and empty.

Still following the girl, Tianyin was eventually brought into one of the rooms inside the hall.

The room’s layout was simple. Other than a table and a few chairs, there wasn’t anything else.

Overall, it seemed to be a place meant for receiving guests.

“Please, have a seat.”

Yivrea pointed at a chair with a smile.

Tianyin naturally sat down, though to her dismay, her small body meant that once she sat, her legs didn’t even reach the ground.

Judging from her eyes, there was at least a ten-centimeter gap between her feet and the floor…

“Now then, dear guest, would you like some tea first? Do you prefer black tea or green tea?”

Seeing Tianyin seated, Yivrea asked politely.

“Uh… black tea, please… thank you.”

She spoke without even thinking, and the moment she heard herself say it, Tianyin was a little surprised at her own choice.

“Black tea, hmm? Got it.”

Yivrea nodded knowingly, and the tips of her right fingers glowed faintly.

The next moment, a steaming cup of black tea appeared on the table right in front of Tianyin.

“Please enjoy~”

“Um… thank you…”

Truth be told, Tianyin hadn’t really drunk black tea before. After taking a small sip, she didn’t feel there was anything particularly special about it.

But at the corner of her vision, her status bar displayed a new abnormal buff called 【Pleasure of Black Tea Tasting】.

Once she saw Tianyin had taken a sip, Yivrea finally began to get to the main topic.

“Xiaoyin, may I call you that?”

“Mm, that’s fine.”

Without thinking much, Tianyin accepted the affectionate nickname.

“Alright then, Xiaoyin. About the Sanctuary and the Eight Great Factions, it seems you don’t know much about them, do you?”

“Mm… y-yeah… I don’t know anything about that.”

Tianyin admitted honestly.

“Well then, let’s start with the Sanctuary first.”

As she said that, Yivrea’s expression grew a little more serious.

“The Sanctuary is one of the Eight Great Factions of the Main World. Although it’s called one of the Eight Great Factions, within the Main World, the Sanctuary actually doesn’t have any specific territory of its own.”

“Eh?”

Tianyin looked puzzled.

“Well, it’s normal to find that strange. The reason the Sanctuary doesn’t have any territory in the Main World is because its main power lies within its own domain, the Sanctuary World~”

“In the Main World, the Sanctuary’s presence takes the form of churches within human nations. That’s probably what most people know as the so-called faction called the Sanctuary.”

“I see… so that’s how it is?”

Tianyin looked curious.

“Then Yivrea, you must be a member of the Sanctuary, right?”

“Well, actually, not quite~”

At Tianyin’s question, Yivrea lightly shook her head.

“I’m not a member of the Sanctuary, you see. The true members of the Sanctuary are those with huge bird-like wings, holy and flawless angels in the eyes of mortals~”

“Eh… a-an… angel?!”

“That’s right. Since I’m not one of those so-called angels, I’m not technically part of the Sanctuary~”

“However, the reason people say I’m the one managing this place is because I’m currently employed by the Sanctuary~ In other words, I’m just someone the Sanctuary pays to take care of this area~”
