Volume 3, Chapter 41 – The Beastman Shaman’s Discovery
In the Beastmen camp.
After Grinrui finished dealing with some matters at hand, he began to ponder what method he should use to take the Northern Fortress once the follow up reinforcements from the Stronghold arrived.
According to the intelligence that had been scouted so far.
The Kingdom army before him numbered roughly around two hundred thousand.
Compared to this Kingdom army of about two hundred thousand, because of the crushing defeat last time, the three hundred thousand Beastmen army had lost more than ten thousand soldiers.
If Grinrui had not given the order to retreat in time back then, the losses would have been far more than just that many Beastmen.
Even though there were still a little more than two hundred and eighty thousand soldiers left out of the original three hundred thousand, because of the previous battle, the bulk of the supplies and provisions they had brought this time had all been lost on that battlefield.
This was what gave Grinrui a huge headache, and it was also the reason why, despite having an overwhelming numerical advantage over the Kingdom army, he still had not made a move.
It was not that Grinrui did not want to fight. It was that their supplies were really lacking.
It was not just the food supplies. The weapons, armor, and other materials abandoned in that battle were the real key.
Just in terms of arrows, most of what they had brought this time had been discarded in that battle. On the surface, the Beastmen army seemed more numerous than the Kingdom, but in truth, nearly half of the Beastman soldiers in the army did not even have their own weapons.
Beastmen who fought in close combat had no armor or weapons for protection, and those who were supposed to be in charge of ranged attacks did have short bows in their hands, but not a single usable arrow.

So for these reasons, although Grinrui’s Beastmen legions looked numerous and their morale had not fallen much, in reality, the number of troops he could send out to face the Kingdom army was only a few tens of thousands.
As for the rest of the Beastmen, they could only pitifully go into battle wielding primitive tools like wooden clubs and stones.
It was precisely because of this extremely awkward situation that Grinrui chose to hunker down in the camp. Whenever there was friction between his soldiers and the Kingdom soldiers, he chose the principle that if they could avoid fighting, then they would avoid fighting.
Of course, this did not mean Grinrui had lost his nerve. It was just that he was very clear in his heart that the Beastmen army before him was in a disadvantaged state, so this was merely a strategic avoidance of battle.
At the same time as he avoided battle, Grinrui was also waiting for the army from the Stronghold to arrive with supplies in support.
And today, Grinrui received good news.
The first piece of good news from the main camp was that a Beastmen army of two hundred thousand carrying a huge amount of supplies and provisions had already set out and was currently on the way.
However, because the army was carrying too many supplies, even though they were traveling as fast as they could, their marching speed was still somewhat slow, so the messenger delivering the news arrived at the camp ahead of them.
According to the messenger, the two hundred thousand Beastmen reinforcements would arrive in half a month.
So this also told Grinrui that he only needed to keep defending in his shell for another half a month.
Half a month could still be endured if he slightly reduced the food rations of the soldiers.
This was what Grinrui thought after learning this news.

The second piece of good news was that the Kingdom army on the other side seemed unlikely to receive any more reinforcements.
According to the messenger, the old Beast King at the Stronghold had apparently negotiated with the emperors and kings of the Kingdoms over the matter of the Beastmen temporarily borrowing the Northern Fortress, and the result seemed to be a success.
The result of the successful negotiations was that the Kingdom army he was facing now seemed to be the last Kingdom army that the Kingdoms had sent.
Not only would there be no further military reinforcements. It seemed there would not even be any additional supply support.
This meant that as long as Grinrui persisted in staying inside his shell for a long time, then after half a month, once he had received reinforcements and his strength greatly increased, while the enemy slowly weakened because they had no reinforcements, with one side rising and the other side falling, taking the Northern Fortress and defeating the Kingdom army would be something guaranteed.
It could be said that this piece of news was even better than the first.
“It looks like the longer we drag this out, the more the situation tilts in our favor?”
In the end, Grinrui reached this conclusion.
Sometimes war is just like that. It is not only about the commanding ability of the army’s leader. It is also a contest of the depth of each side’s capacity for war.
In Grinrui’s view, there was no longer any need to rack his brains for plans or methods to capture the Northern Fortress.
As long as he kept up the stalemate with the Kingdom, when the Kingdom army used up all their food and supplies, he would not even need to make a move. The Kingdom army would collapse on its own.

With this in mind, after thinking for a moment, Grinrui decided on the next stage of his plan.
However, just as Grinrui had settled on his future course of action, the soldiers below reported that a Beastman Shaman was suddenly requesting an audience with him.
Speaking of Beastman Shamans, this profession was also very rare among the Beastmen.
Beastman Shamans possessed the power to cast mysterious Shaman magic. According to the Beastman Shamans themselves, magic was the result of communicating with the elements of the world and asking the elements to fight.
Because Beastman Shamans wielded mysterious powers among the Beastmen, and because the Throne-class at the Stronghold was a Shaman, the status of Shamans in the Stronghold was higher than that of ordinary Beastmen.
As for why there would be Shamans within the army. Of course, the Beastmen army did indeed include some Beastman Shamans in its formations, although their numbers were very small.
Back to the topic, as a Legendary, Grinrui immediately summoned the Beastman Shaman when he heard that a Shaman was asking to see him.
“General……”
After entering the tent, the Beastman Shaman respectfully bowed to Grinrui.
“I do not know what business brings you to me, Shaman?”
“Yes… General, and it is good news.”
Grinrui actually knew this Beastman Shaman. He was the Shaman Captain of the Skullcrusher Legion.

So Grinrui would not doubt the words of this Shaman Captain before him too much.
“Oh, good news? Please speak……”
Having received Grinrui’s permission, the Beastman Shaman spoke directly.
“General, based on our communication with the wind elementals active in the Northern Fortress, and after repeated confirmations by several Shamans, we have learned an important piece of intelligence that tomorrow, the Kingdom’s Legendary Paladin will be away from the camp for at least half a day…”
“Hm??? What did you say?!”
Grinrui shot up from his seat.
“How certain is this information?”
“Ten out of ten, General.”
The Beastman Shaman replied with complete calm.
Grinrui’s expression, however, became incredibly animated.
