Volume 8, Chapter 17 – Tianyin Became the Scapegoat
The death of the second Demon Lord made the situation become subtle.
It could be said that the death of the first Demon Lord might have implied that things were not so simple, but the death of the second Demon Lord meant that the development of the situation had become even more confusing and unpredictable.
Demon Lords were different from ordinary demons. In Inferno, they stood at the very top of the food chain. Under normal circumstances, although Demon Lords had various conflicts among themselves, once the Abyssal Lord issued a summons, all conflicts should be temporarily set aside.
Yet the problem was that something that should not have happened, happened.
A Demon Lord was inexplicably assassinated.
Why was he killed?
And who killed the Demon Lord?
These questions lingered in the minds of many Demon Lords. Even though they could speculate about all kinds of possibilities, they could never guess that the deaths of the Demon Lords were all caused by Tianyin alone.
After all, who would ever imagine that it was a silver-haired loli who secretly took out two Demon Lords in succession.
This kind of thing was something no normal demon could think of…
“Then who could the murderer be?”
After considering all possibilities, in the end, they could only attribute the matter to a vendetta killing.
After all, between Demon Lords, there were more or less conflicts, and generally speaking, these conflicts often reached the level of life-and-death enemies.

Although the existence of the Abyssal Lord suppressed demon infighting to a certain extent, those contradictions could not be ignored, because they existed among the Demon Lords themselves.
Thus, deaths caused by hatred could be reasonably explained.
Of course, most Demon Lords did not believe that the second Demon Lord had already died. They were still speculating that it was the Abyssal Lord’s doing.
However, there was also a small portion of Demon Lords who seemed to have guessed something. Their gazes flickered as they secretly plotted something in their hearts.
As the many Demon Lords dispersed, this tent once again returned to an empty state.
And a few minutes later, Tianyin’s figure reappeared inside this deserted tent.
Her silver-white long hair was casually draped behind her back, and on her delicate little face was an extremely serious yet adorable expression.
『Samael, from here on, we just need to push things along in the shadows. I can already feel it. Some self-important demons are planning to do something stupid.』
The enemy was in the open, while Tianyin was in the dark.
Especially with an unknown enemy like Tianyin existing, the Demon Lords could not imagine such an enemy at all. So in a certain sense, the demons did not believe that an enemy like Tianyin existed.
Then, since there was no external enemy, the ones killing Demon Lords must be fellow Demon Lords.
And the Abyssal Lord had rules. During the period of the summons, they were not allowed to kill each other.

However, rules were dead, while demons were indeed alive.
And according to the broken window effect, once there was a first example that carried no risk, then more similar examples would follow.
What Tianyin did was simply to create that first example.
Tianyin could not keep assassinating Demon Lords forever. Although it was true that when Tianyin assassinated Demon Lords, those Demon Lords could not detect her at all, once the number of assassinated Demon Lords increased, it was only natural that some Demon Lords would sense that something was wrong.
At that point, before chaos even truly began, the Abyssal Lord might personally descend.
And according to Tianyin’s plan, that kind of scenario was absolutely not what she wanted.
So what Tianyin needed to do was to make a good start, open the precedent of assassinating Demon Lords, and then let the Demon Lords begin to follow her method.
In other words, from this point on, the ones assassinating Demon Lords would no longer be Tianyin, but those Demon Lords who were scheming against each other and harbored conflicts among themselves.
And reality progressed exactly according to Tianyin’s plan. After the second Demon Lord was completely killed by Tianyin, some of the Demon Lords at the scene had already thought of this point.
That was, to assassinate their own enemies.
And such thoughts arose precisely because nothing major happened after Tianyin assassinated the Demon Lords. So driven by a sense of luck, and with Tianyin, this “scapegoat”, already in place, some Demon Lords began to harbor the idea of “killing with a borrowed knife”.
Using the identity of the one who killed Demon Lords earlier, they would kill their own enemies.
And after successfully killing their enemies, they could just dump everything onto Tianyin to take the blame.

The reason Tianyin knew all this so clearly was because the power of Lust allowed her to see through the thoughts deep in those demons’ hearts.
「Well, I have to say, Xiaoyin, your plan is already extremely detailed. Speaking of which, did you really come up with this plan yourself? Even now, I still find it a bit hard to believe…」
Samael’s amazed voice echoed in her mind.
Hearing this from Samael, Tianyin puffed up her cheeks in displeasure.
『What is that supposed to mean… In Samael’s eyes, am I just a fool? Although I admit that I used to be a little bit dumb… but at least the current me has improved a lot, you know!』
「Pfft, I never said Xiaoyin was dumb. Saying you’re dumb was something you said yourself, you know?」
『Wuu…』
Although Tianyin’s scheme was extremely successful, when it came to bickering, whether it was in front of Samael or in front of Xiaomengyao, Tianyin seemed to have never gained the upper hand.
Realizing that she could not win against Samael in words, Tianyin could only let out a cute little huff and decided not to discuss this headache-inducing topic anymore.
「Then, what do we do next?」
Tianyin not wanting to speak did not mean Samael did not want to talk to her. After Tianyin fell silent, Samael brought up a new topic.
『Next, we just wait for things to develop on their own.』

「Is that so? Just wait for those demons to slaughter each other?」
『That’s right.』
At this point, Tianyin happily narrowed her eyes.
『We don’t need to do anything next. We can just quietly be spectators and watch these demons put on their performance~』
And the facts were exactly as Tianyin said. As time passed, Tianyin’s plan advanced along its predetermined track.
After the incident of Demon Lords dying occurred, by the next day, yet another Demon Lord had died.
And this time, the Demon Lord who died was not assassinated by Tianyin, but was killed by another Demon Lord during the night.
However, after the third dead Demon Lord was discovered, almost all the Demon Lords pinned the culprit of this killing onto the nonexistent murderer named “Tianyin”.
To be precise, Tianyin had become the “scapegoat”.
『Pfft, I didn’t expect I’d end up taking the blame. But being a scapegoat doesn’t matter. As long as a few more Demon Lords die next, that’s good enough~』
As a melon-eating onlooker, Tianyin expressed that she could not only take this blame, she could even take a few more of them.
