Volume 9, Chapter 43 – Final Chapter (The End)

In that battle known to no one, the world that was on the brink of collapse was saved…

But… although it was saved, there were still countless people who left forever.

Duansheng Tingyu, Xiaomengyao’s brother, who had become the World Will, completely died in that battle.

After learning of her brother’s death… Xiaomengyao, who rarely cried, cried again and again.

Ysera once more fell into slumber, and this time, it seemed she would never wake up.

The Kingdom’s Legendary mages also passed away one after another not long after returning. Fortunately, before their deaths, those mages had all found outsiders to inherit their legacies.

Xingyu Muxi gave up the identity and power of the Elven Queen and chose to return to Dawn, beginning plans to rebuild Dawn, which had turned into ruins.

And because the System had disappeared, Xingyu Muxi could no longer use money power.

The catgirl Yeluo led her clan to stay in Dawn, becoming a major force in the reconstruction of Dawn.

Lucifa recovered her identity as an angel and was taken back to the Sanctuary by Mihiel, inheriting the position of the third generation angel leader.

Andrew continued being his Arcane Emperor.

Because a catastrophe comparable to the end of the world occurred in the real world, the vast majority of outsiders transferred into the Main World to begin new lives.

As for the real world drifting in the void, only a few places remained suitable for survival.

The power of the King of Paladins was stripped away by Yunchou and returned to Fisiel, who held the King of Knights Identity Emblem. After Fisiel became the new King of Knights, she did not choose to return to the Kingdom. Instead, she remained in Dawn and became Dawn’s new Throne-tier.

As for Yunchou, who had lost his power…

No one knew where he went.

Some said they saw a young man who looked very much like Yunchou drowning his sorrows in a tavern.

Others said they saw the corpse of a youth resembling Yunchou appear beneath a cliff.

Some also said that Yunchou went into seclusion, planning to live out his life in a place with no people.

And as time passed, aside from a few individuals, no one remembered that there had once been a person named Yunchou in this world. And those who remembered, only remembered that unnamed King of Knights who had held the position for a short time.

Dawn.

New Eden City.

After a busy day, Xingyu Muxi walked through the silent corridor, with Xiaomengyao, who now served as her assistant, following behind her.

The Xiaomengyao at the entrance was no longer a loli. The passage of time had turned the once adorable loli into a beautiful young girl.

And now, Xiaomengyao was a young lady whose every action and gesture was incomparably elegant.

“Sister Xiaomu, you worked hard again today.”

“Worked hard? It was alright… what about you, have you completely adapted already?”

“Completely adapted.”

Xiaomengyao smiled.

“After all, so many years have passed… and some time ago, I was already able to start running, Sister Xiaomu.”

“You can run already? That means you’ve recovered really well.”

“Of course… after all, that was the power that stupid Master left for me…”

As Xiaomengyao said this, her voice became a little low.

Xingyu Muxi also fell silent.

They continued on without words.

After winding around, Xingyu Muxi brought Xiaomengyao to a room that looked extremely shabby compared to the others.

Just as they stood at the door, it creaked open.

“You’re here?”

The red haired girl smiled tiredly, then stepped aside to make space for Xingyu Muxi and Xiaomengyao to enter.

“Yeah, we come to see her every day. Maybe she’ll wake up at any time.”

Xingyu Muxi said with a smile and walked in.

Xiaomengyao followed closely behind.

After entering the room, one could see that the furnishings were actually very simple.

A bed, a table, the cramped space seemed unable to hold any extra furniture.

And on the only bed, a small girl with long silver hair and an incomparably cute face was quietly sleeping.

“Stupid Master…”

Looking at the little girl with steady breathing, Xiaomengyao called out blankly.

However, the little girl on the bed seemed unable to hear Xiaomengyao’s call and continued sleeping deeply.

“You’ve been taking care of Xiaoyin nonstop for so many years, it must have been hard on you, Samael.”

Looking at Samael’s slightly tired expression, Xingyu Muxi spoke to comfort her.

“It wasn’t hard… it’s just that Xiaoyin, after so many years, when will she finally wake up…”

Pressing her hand gently against the girl’s serene sleeping face, Samael let out a soft sigh.

“What Yunchou did back then really went a bit too far… clearly defeating Xiaoyin would’ve been enough, yet he insisted on having his Death Knight pierce Xiaoyin’s heart.”

“Piercing her heart wasn’t enough, he even used Undead Grand Duke Sargus’ sword…”

As she said this, Samael’s tone became gritted with anger.

“Well, even though doing that was indeed a bit too much. But Xiaoyin didn’t die in the end, right?

“And Yunchou already got a proper beating from us. If you’re still not satisfied, we can just go beat him up again, can’t we?”

“Hmph…”

Although she voiced her dissatisfaction, Samael did not say anything further, which was also a kind of stance.

And at this moment.

Xiaomengyao, who had been staring at the girl on the bed, suddenly let out a delighted cry.

“She… moved… she moved, I think I just saw stupid Master’s mouth move!”

“Xiaoyin!”

“Xiaoyin!”

An atmosphere of joy instantly spread through the simple, plain room.

And under the tight gazes of three pairs of eyes, the girl lying on the bed, who seemed as if she would sleep forever, slowly opened her eyes.

“Wuu…”

Letting out a weak, cute sound, the silver haired girl looked somewhat blankly at the three people watching her.

“Eh… why are you all looking at me like that?”

“Waaah… Master, stupid Master!”

With a wail, Xiaomengyao was the first to be unable to hold back and pounced onto Tianyin.

“Stupid Master? eh eh eh, you’re Xiaomengyao?”

The somewhat dumbfounded Tianyin looked at the young girl clinging to her and cried out in surprise.

“Didn’t I just take a nap? Why did Xiaomengyao suddenly grow this big? Could it be that I woke up the wrong way!?”

As she said this, Tianyin closed her eyes, seemingly planning to fall back asleep.

“Don’t sleep!”

As Tianyin was about to do that, Xingyu Muxi’s voice rang out.

“Eh… Sister Xiaomu… but Xiaomengyao is so strange. Look at her…”

“You’re the strange one! Stupid Master!”

It seemed she had vented enough in Tianyin’s arms. Xiaomengyao lifted her head and glared fiercely at Tianyin.

“Xiaomengyao has always been like this, so she’s not strange at all, Xiaoyin.”

At this moment, Samael also chimed in.

“Eh, eh, eh! Samael… you, weren’t you always living inside my body? Why did you suddenly come out!”

“Is it that surprising?”

Samael narrowed her eyes and smiled.

“Wuu… surpri—Um, not surprised at all.”

“It’s useless, Xiaoyin. Your punishment now is not being allowed to sleep for an entire day!”

“Waaah, no no, what did I do wrong? Why aren’t you letting me sleep for a whole day!”

The end.

Author Note

Final postscript.

This time, it really is the very very last postscript.

I started writing this book in August of 2019, and it concluded in October of 2020.

This book accompanied me for one year and two months.

Which means that Tianyin, this silly loli, also accompanied me for one year and two months.

All feasts must come to an end.

Stories also have places where they end. And Tianyin’s story ends here.

And those who were able to see the very end, those who saw the conclusion, are all companions who walked alongside Tianyin.

As for the ending, although it might feel a bit rushed, this was the best possible ending.

After all, the Tianyin at the end was simply far too powerful. Normally speaking, no one would be Tianyin’s opponent.

Just like Tianyin said, there was a ninety nine percent chance of success, and the chance of failure only existed at one percent.

And that one percent was precisely what Yunchou obtained by dying countless times, failing countless times, and experiencing endless despair.

So, for an ending like this to happen, it was actually inevitable.

As for Tianyin waking up and returning to normal, you can understand it this way. What Yunchou killed back then was Tianyin as the Supreme.

While the cute Tianyin, pure like a blank sheet of paper, was left behind.

As for the story after Tianyin awakens.

It’s about going to find her little companions again~

At this point, this book is finished.

Translator Note

Annddddd that’s it~ The end of That Time I Became an NPC Cutie.

There are so many things I want to say, but first and foremost, to the author who will probably never read this anyway…

PLEASE GIVE ME ALL THE BUILT UP TENSION BACK.

Seriously. After all the tension that had been piling up throughout the entire volume, the final battle just… ended like that?!

I was honestly worried the novel would go full tragic ending, but instead it suddenly swerved into a happy ending… well, no, not really. Xiaomengyao’s brother is dead, Ysera a.k.a Xiaobingxue fell into eternal slumber, and leaving aside Michael who barely showed up, the Fortress Emperor, one of Tianyin’s teachers, also died by Tianyin’s own hands. Oh, and the real world is half destroyed.

So I guess we can call this a bittersweet ending? Probably?

Well, our Tianyin is back to being an innocent loli, so that’s a good thing… I guess. Though honestly, if the ending was going to be rushed like this, I might’ve preferred a full bad end instead…

But really, turning Tianyin into a final boss villain was such unexpected move. Well done, author. That was the great plot twist that I had never expected xD

Anyway~!

If you remember what I said back in the very first chapter, I started translating this novel hoping to read something that would make me laugh a lot.

And yet… What did we actually get?

Maybe 30% comedy and 70% drama.

So once again, I failed to find a novel filled purely with happiness…

But I won’t stop in finding good novels and translate them!

All novels that I had translated is listed on my translator profile and official Kat’s discord server, to be exact inside #invisiblepain-novels channel~

How many novels I had translated? Who knows, perhaps by the time you read this, it’s already over five novels? Ten? Or perhaps more? There might be some good or even masterpiece novels among them that you wouldn’t want to miss it!

So feel free to check it out from time to time, because the number of novels there will keep growing!

Thank you for reading all the way to the end and for sticking with Tianyin through joy, pain, maturity, and recovery~

This story is officially complete. Well, technically there’s still one side story left. But like the author mentioned, Tianyin’s warmth and the themes of connection and healing don’t really end here.

I hope this ending left you with something soft to hold onto~

See ya in the next novel I translate~

Bye bye~!
