Volume 1, Chapter 65 – Master, Can I Bite You Once?
“Outsiders? I haven’t had much contact with outsiders myself, but Kersu should know something about them.”
Saying that, Lilith’s gaze fell on the lich hovering nearby, cold mist trailing from its body.
That lich was the Kersu Lilith spoke of. Long ago Kersu was the first mage to research undead magic. He was later exiled by the mages’ faction and became a lich.
In other words, Kersu was the first lich in this game world.
Following Lilith’s words, the man’s eyes turned to Kersu.
“Grand Duke… as for outsiders, I have researched them. While their souls are essentially no different from those of Main World humans, there is a very strange point about them.”
Once a learned mage, Kersu’s words were the result of careful study over a long time.
Kersu had taken an interest the moment outsiders first appeared, but because the Graveyard always preferred to act discreetly, he never made a show of his research.
Still, he had reached some conclusions.
“Outsiders, when killed, are revived by a mysterious force in a short time.”
“And this resurrection magic truly does exist. Grand Duke, you should understand that resurrection is not merely bringing someone back to life. Resurrection forcibly interferes with the world’s causality.”
“A person dies because they suffered a fatal wound. That is a simple causal chain. But reviving a dead person not only changes the result of that death but also erases the trace of the cause that led to it.”
“Therefore resurrection is a forbidden art even the powerful, like the Heavenly Father, dare not use lightly.”
“However… this forbidden art acts on these outsiders invisibly and repeatedly… so although these outsiders are weak now, I believe among them will eventually arise beings as powerful as the Heavenly Father.”

A long speech.
Kersu’s words sent a shock through the gathered Graveyard elites.
“How could that be… infinite resurrection… There are so many outsiders, and performing resurrection on even one person is difficult enough. To revive so many… even a being like the legendary Heavenly Father could not repeatedly resurrect the same person in one day, could he?”
“Kersu, if outsiders truly have this ability, why haven’t they caused chaos in the Main World?”
One Death Knight asked the question.
“That is precisely what I find most strange.”
Asked directly, Kersu spoke slowly.
“Grand Duke, outsiders are indeed odd… capable of infinite resurrection. May I ask, did you notice this ability and thus think to make use of them?”
Truly scholarly, the mage could read others’ intentions with ease.
“Yes. As Kersu said, I have noticed the outsiders’ peculiarity and considered bringing them into our Graveyard faction.”
“But Grand Duke, even if outsiders are special, would they want to become undead, something neither fully human nor fully ghost?”
An Abomination, towering and wielding a rusted iron hook, rumbled in a low voice.
“Grand Duke, what if they refuse to join us?”

“Refuse?” The man smiled at the puzzled faces of the gathered Graveyard leaders.
“Kersu, have you not noticed yet?”
“I am ignorant,” the lich Kersu bowed his head, admitting his lack of knowledge.
Seeing Kersu’s uncertainty, the man spoke slowly.
“Those outsiders… I discovered something stranger than their infinite resurrection. It also explains why they haven’t caused trouble in the Main World.”
“Please speak, Grand Duke.”
The Graveyard leaders all urged him to continue.
“That is… the outsiders’ attitude toward this world.”
“Their attitude… gives me the feeling that they treat this world as, no, they view it as a game that can be restarted infinitely.”
“What…”
At the moment he said that… even those of them with the best temperaments found it hard to accept.
“Game… I didn’t expect… the outsiders see us like that? Interesting.”
Having lived over a million years, Lilith suddenly found herself intrigued by outsiders.

The man cleared his throat and the previously noisy hall fell silent.
“Everyone, it is precisely because outsiders view the world like a game that I thought to recruit them into our Graveyard. After all, an outsider who treats the world as a game will not care about becoming undead.”
“Furthermore…”
He paused. From the dark helm the man wore, a faint blue flame glowed in his hidden eyes.
“I have tested it. Even after an outsider becomes undead, their soul remains intact. If outsiders increase in number, we will completely solve the problem of most undead lacking commanders.”
“And when that time comes… even if all seven great factions unite against us… we will not fear them.”
…………………………
Three hours had passed since they left the Job Change Hall and set out for Storm Fortress.
It was one in the afternoon. The weather was unusually bright and the burning sun made it hard to keep one’s eyes open.
Because of the heat, Tianyin and her loli disciple Xiaomengyao chose a shady spot to rest and enjoy the scenery.
Suddenly, Tianyin grew serious as if she had just remembered something.
“Wuu… wait… I just remembered something…”
“Eh? Master, what is it?”

Xiaomengyao looked at her with curiosity.
“I forgot. The distance I measured to our destination was a straight-line distance on the map…”
“Eh? That’s fine, isn’t it?”
“But the map shows a straight line and the roads we take are not straight. So we’ll need at least one extra week of travel.”
“Well, Master, it’s fine~” Xiaomengyao tried to reassure her.
“And I also forgot…”
“Mm? What now?”
“I forgot that both of our legs are shorter than normal people’s legs.”
Hearing that, Xiaomengyao smiled gently.
“Master?”
“Mm? What is it?”
“Can I… Bite you once?”
