Chapter 45: 70% Progress

Farrah seemed to have won, but this victory was a tragic one. Even Xiao Fen, who was a considerable distance away, could see that large patches of flames had disappeared from the Awakened’s body, and his original form was in a wretched state.

This situation would likely give some ambitious Trialists a misunderstanding, which was, “If I add my strength, perhaps the final victory will be mine.”

However, such Trialists certainly did not include Xiao Fen, who already knew Farrah’s final outcome.

The World Tree needed the Trialists to change history, but the World Tree would not change history itself.

Therefore, before the Trialists truly stepped into the battle between the two Awakened, the World Tree would not actively let Farrah truly kill Jack.

Of course, if insignificant Trialists wanted to test their weight, the World Tree would not mind letting Farrah tell them what a true Legendary Awakened was.

Just as Sayena walked behind Farrah and wanted to make a move, Farrah’s body suddenly moved. Almost at the same time, he had already rushed to Sayena’s side.

Looking at this somewhat panicked Trialist, the Neutralist let out a laughter that sounded like ghosts weeping and gods howling, and said to Sayena, “Yes, it is you. You came at the right time.”

As soon as the voice fell, the black flames on Farrah suddenly became extremely vigorous. These flames suddenly engulfed Sayena. In just a few seconds, when Farrah left this place, Sayena, who was originally a Level 4 Trialist, had completely vanished.

Farrah’s body, having swallowed Sayena with flames, improved greatly. The flames on his body became lush again. At the same time, his spirit looked much better too.

Xiao Fen raised an eyebrow and subconsciously looked at the Main Quest progress again, 63%!

He froze for a moment, suddenly realizing in his heart. Indeed, the trap was here!

Farrah’s eventual death in history was likely the result of ultimately failing the battle with Jack. To change this history, one probably needed to find an opportunity in this process to supplement Farrah with some “nutrition.”

This nutrition was the Trialists. Farrah replenished his energy by devouring Trialists, standing again on a position basically equal to Jack, which allowed him to fight longer than in history.

The reason the World Tree wanted Farrah to fight longer than in history was to delay the time into Jack’s decline period.

Just like in history, while Farrah fought Jack, other Trialists were constantly pushing the Main Quest progress elsewhere, weakening Jack’s strength.

With one declining and the other growing, the battle time between Farrah and Jack would extend further, until all Trialists completed other Main Quest tasks.

With the completion of other Main Quest tasks, Jack’s strength would weaken further. Only at that time would the Trialists truly reap the fruits of victory.

If it were not for the greedy Sayena, the one most likely to become food for Farrah would have been Xiao Fen.

He was closest to the battlefield and most likely to be tempted by various high-level items. After overestimating his own level, he would rashly break into the battlefield range of two Legendary Awakened and eventually become Farrah’s food.

Of course, not sacrificing Trialists was also possible, but at that time, the Trialist team would face an even more power ful Jack.

Whether to sacrifice Trialists to lower the final difficulty, or to face a higher strength BOSS with a more complete lineup, this choice was probably the true key point.

Xiao Fen was not as greedy as the World Tree imagined, but there would always be someone to fill this role. This time, it was Sayena.

“Damn it!”

Li Ruran stared dumbfounded at all this. After a long while, he finally roared in a low voice. Although he tried to brace himself, even Xiao Fen could see that this Young Master of the Li Family’s legs were trembling slightly.

Farrah paid no attention to Li Ruran’s performance. The Neutralist rushed toward Jack’s headless body again. The light of the blade in his hand flashed once more. Before Jack could react, the Decaying Chant had already caused multiple injuries to Jack’s body.

64%, 66%, 69%, 70%.

The Main Quest completion progress soared all the way, reaching a terrifying value in a short time.

And now, Farrah continued to launch attacks on Jack. The task completion progress reached 80%. It seemed Jack’s death countdown would happen in the next instant.

Just then, Jack’s body finally began to move. This headless body struck out instantly, suddenly grabbing Farrah’s left arm. Before Farrah could react, Jack’s other arm locked on as well.

Then, Jack’s arms suddenly exerted force. A bone fracture sound audible to Xiao Fen suddenly rang out on the battlefield. Farrah’s scream of pain echoed through the block. His left arm was torn off his body by Jack and thrown aside.

Standing in the dark, Xiao Fen suddenly saw something seemed to be moving slowly behind Li Ruran, who was standing there in a daze.

Freezing for a moment, Xiao Fen looked carefully. It was actually a thin Bone Whip constantly moving on the ground and swimming toward Li Ruran’s back.

“This is truly damn it!”

Xiao Fen muttered in a low voice. Just now, Farrah’s battle made him think victory was in sight, but he inadvertently ignored another matter.

That was, Farrah could replenish his losses by devouring Trialists. There was no reason the other Legendary Awakened, Jack the Ripper, could not do the same.

“Run! You bastard, run!”

Xiao Fen could not help but rush out and stand on the second-floor balcony, shouting at Li Ruran.

If this guy, who was still in a daze, was devoured by Jack the Ripper, then all of Farrah’s previous efforts would be in vain. In the end, Xiao Fen and Sylvia would have to deal with a half-crippled Legendary Awakened. Such a strength gap could not be made up by any method.

At that time, even if the task completion progress did not regress, one could not expect it to continue.

If the progress could not continue, even if the mission was not completed, this Trial World would continue to operate, and Xiao Fen and the others would forever lose the possibility of returning to the Real World.

Li Ruran suddenly heard Xiao Fen’s voice and froze for a moment. He looked up and saw Xiao Fen standing on the second-floor balcony. A ball of evil fire suddenly rose in his heart. He just wanted to rush up and kill Xiao Fen immediately. He turned a deaf ear to Xiao Fen’s shouting.

At that instant, an eye seemed to grow on the Bone Whip swimming behind Li Ruran. It also stared fiercely at Xiao Fen before suddenly springing up from the ground and stabbing toward the unprotected Li Ruran’s back.
