Chapter 7: Temporary Safety
Chapter 7: Temporary Safety
Before Xiao Fen could think further, a “clatter” sound suddenly came from one side of the house’s main door. The next second, the entire side wall collapsed along with the door.
Before the fog could sweep into this room, Xiao Fen could see at least dozens of ropes coiled around the pillars supporting the wall.
As the side wall collapsed, these ropes suddenly lifted up, like fierce venomous snakes, aiming their targets together at Xiao Fen.
Xiao Fen violently pushed open the back door of the house. Before the entire house could collapse dangerously, he had already flashed out. In that instant, he could clearly hear that above his head, those rustling sounds disappeared.
He didn’t dare to stop. Following the arrow on his sleeve, he rushed fiercely towards the opposite side.
This was a backstreet alley that could only accommodate four people walking side by side. In almost just two seconds, Xiao Fen had already rushed across the street. In front of his eyes was the back door of another house. Looking vaguely, this back door was also slightly ajar.
Just as Xiao Fen was about to exert more strength to rush over, his heart suddenly tightened. He jumped hard to the right, his hands hooking onto a first-floor windowsill on the other side. With a power ful pull, his whole body flipped up. He completed a backflip in the air, and his heels kicked through the thin wooden planks nailed to the window, his body following suit and swinging inside.
Behind him, almost without any pause, “thud thud thud thud thud”, five consecutive sounds. Five ropes shooting down from different angles all missed, smashing the ground and causing stone chips to fly in all directions.
The last rope was less than a centimeter away from Xiao Fen’s head as he shrank into the window. If Xiao Fen had been one second slower, he would have been nailed to the ground by these ropes now.
Xiao Fen didn’t have time to be afraid. Ten seconds had already passed, and there was still at least 100 meters to the target. He exerted force suddenly, rushed up to the second-floor balcony, glanced at the opposite side, and shrank down on the spot. Almost brushing against his cheek, a rope shot down from the air with such force that it actually pierced through the balcony floor.
Without thinking, Xiao Fen took two steps back, then suddenly exerted force to run. He stepped onto the balcony railing and jumped hard towards the building opposite. Behind him, two ropes were thrown out in succession, but Xiao Fen’s movements were too fast, and his changes were too many. Both rope attacks missed one after another.
Xiao Fen spread his body in the air and performed two scissor-kick movements. His fully developed body balance ability made him glide through the air like he was flying, suddenly landing on a pillar supporting a dangerous wall opposite. Without stopping, his body exerted force again, and he once again flashed into a room.
No one could stop him, no one could slow his speed, not even those terrible webs in the sky.
As long as he wanted to, he would definitely do it!
The thick fog wrapped the scenery beyond ten meters in a blurry, dizzy shell.
In the distance, the Castle only showed its highest battlements in the fog. The lights flashing from the window holes, which looked like giant eyes, were rendered orange-yellow in the yellowish-brown fog. Looking from afar, it was like an illusory castle in the air, completely losing the majesty of a Castle.
Not only in the distance, but even the people close at hand were wrapped in heavy fog. Because of this fog, they also lost their distinct outlines. Once they walked away from each other, they would slowly blur and deform under the effect of the fog and the dim yellow light of the street lamps.
In this slightly magical place, in a certain block of this city, the people there did not come out to walk in the evening like people in other blocks. Instead, they firmly locked their doors, daring not to go out.
In a certain corner of this block, Xiao Fen was running rapidly. High walls, low stakes, and all kinds of obstacles could not stop his running.
Behind him, more and more ropes had joined the ranks of hunting him. The sounds of ropes hitting the ground or walls, which could be clearly heard at first, had disappeared. Replacing them was a dense crashing sound like rain. Listening to it, it was as if there was a machine gun firing recklessly behind Xiao Fen.
However, even so, these ropes still could not catch Xiao Fen, let alone kill him.
All the rope attacks missed. Xiao Fen always rolled, jumped, or changed direction at the most unexpected moments, or entered a house abandoned by the landlord to temporarily gain cover, or suddenly rushed up to a second-floor balcony to make the unavoidable rope attack miss again.
The entire block was trembling.
Most of the ground Xiao Fen ran over was already covered in craters. The impact of the ropes and the constantly collapsing dangerous walls caused the ground to vibrate.
And in those houses where people still lived, the homeowners huddled with their relatives, shivering all over and praying to God in low voices. Tonight was destined to be a night of panic for them.
However, it was precisely because of these people’s timidity that Xiao Fen’s target did not disappear immediately. After one minute, Xiao Fen finally rushed to a distance of only a few meters from the target. By this time, he was already gasping for breath.
Running at high speed to squeeze out his Stamina, while also using various movements, this process was already very difficult.
Moreover, in such fog, nothing could be seen beyond ten meters. There were more sudden changes to deal with, and more attention and spirit needed to be invested.
In just one minute, Xiao Fen’s body had been pushed to the limit. If those support supplies weren’t right in front of him, he might not have been able to rush here at all. But even so, he had pretty much overdrawn all his Stamina.
Shaking his head slightly, Xiao Fen ignored the slight pain in various parts of his body that had started to sound like alarms. Using the last of his strength, he made a desperate leap and rushed into the house with the open door in front of him. He looked down at his sleeve; the icon was pointing straight up.
Xiao Fen gave a bitter smile. At this moment, he was not allowed to stop. He ran hard to bypass the stairs and rushed up to the third floor in one breath. In this empty floor, in a corner of the master bedroom, several crates were shining.
Xiao Fen ran to the crates. Ignoring opening them for now, he first held onto the crates to gasp for breath. The light cursor on his sleeve flashed suddenly after contacting those crates, and then that holographic control screen appeared again.
“Your supplies have been delivered, please check and receive.”
“There is a new quest, do you accept it?”
At the same time, Xiao Fen suddenly realized that the sounds of those ropes, which had been constantly threatening him like a shadow, had completely vanished. It was not the terrifying silence before danger arrived, but a calmness that returned to a normal state.
The difference was that the strange footsteps that were previously heard only in the distance were now getting closer and closer, even starting to make these crates beside him tremble slightly.
