Chapter 149: Hurry Up and Leave, Okay?
Chapter 149: Hurry Up and Leave, Okay?
The county town.
After arriving at Guo Heng’s house, Lin Meng didn’t linger. He immediately asked Guo Heng to take him to the so-called big shot’s residence.
On the way, Guo Heng briefed Lin Meng on the VIP’s background.
"Divine Doctor Lin, the big shot’s name is Bai Yuanzheng. His hometown is Taoyuan County, and he just turned eighty," Guo Heng explained. "Elder Bai joined the army in his youth and made quite a name for himself. He hasn’t been back for many years.
"However, due to a severe illness, he felt his time was running out and wanted to return to his roots. He recently moved back to his hometown. Unexpectedly, his condition worsened shortly after his return."
Lin Meng listened in silence. He suddenly found the name Bai Yuanzheng somewhat familiar, but he couldn’t quite remember where he had heard it. After pondering for a moment, a sudden realization hit him.
If he remembered correctly, back at the entrance of the County People’s Hospital, that woman who had slapped him—Bai Li—had mentioned that her grandfather was named Bai Yuanzheng.
It was far too much of a coincidence.
But it also explained why Bai Li was so domineering. With a background like that, what need did she have for reason?
"President Guo, how high is Bai Yuanzheng’s rank in the military?" Lin Meng asked out of curiosity.
"I’m not entirely sure either, but rumor has it he’s at least a major general," Guo Heng replied, his face entirely serious.
This time, Lin Meng was genuinely shocked. Although he lived in the countryside, he knew exactly how formidable a major general was.
Lin Meng wasn’t the type to bow and scrape just because he met a big shot. Under normal circumstances, given that Bai Li had slapped him, there was no way he would ever treat her grandfather. But thinking of Zhao Lingshan’s situation, he had no choice but to swallow his pride for now.
After all, with the Bai family’s immense power and influence, helping him rescue Sister Lingshan would be a piece of cake.
Half an hour later.
The car pulled up to the gates of a luxurious villa. Lin Meng and Guo Heng stepped out and immediately noticed several guards stationed nearby.
Guo Heng approached them to explain their purpose. The guards made a phone call to verify before finally letting them inside. Walking into the villa’s courtyard, Lin Meng once again acutely felt the disparity between different classes of people. He had originally thought Guo Heng’s residence was luxurious enough, but compared to this place, it seemed downright shabby.
The two soon arrived at the living room, but there wasn’t a single soul in sight.
"Divine Doctor Lin, they might be busy with other things. We can just wait here for a bit," Guo Heng said cautiously.
Since arriving, he had noticeably become much more reserved, clearly quite intimidated by Elder Bai. Lin Meng nodded, not minding the wait.
After a few minutes, Guo Heng’s phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the screen and immediately looked a bit embarrassed. "Um, Divine Doctor Lin, would you mind staying here by yourself for a moment? I need to step outside to take this call."
"Sure." Lin Meng nodded nonchalantly.
Guo Heng let out a small sigh of relief, quickly turned around, and hurried out. However, just as he left, a familiar figure emerged from a side corridor and entered the living room.
She was dressed in casual clothes, yet her impressive curves were still evident, giving off a crisp and capable aura. However, the arrogant, condescending look in her eyes made it hard for anyone to feel any fondness toward her.
Seeing Bai Li again, Lin Meng immediately felt a knot of frustration form in his chest. No matter how beautiful this woman was or how great her figure might be, he felt absolutely nothing for her.
"Hmm, are you here to see my grandfather for a medical..." Bai Li also noticed Lin Meng and strode over. Before she could finish her sentence, she got a clear look at his face. Her expression instantly shifted to sheer astonishment. "Why is it you, you country bumpkin? How did you get in here?"
"Miss Bai, I..." Lin Meng suppressed his anger, feeling stifled as he tried to explain.
But Bai Li didn’t give him a chance to speak. She scolded angrily, "I get it! You must have found out about my grandfather’s identity and came here to curry favor. Keep dreaming, you peasant!
"I already showed you mercy by not holding you accountable for what happened last time. Yet you actually dare to come here and pester us? Believe it or not, I’ll break your damn legs!"
Lin Meng’s fists clenched so hard his knuckles cracked. He was barely able to control his temper. Throwing around insults like ’peasant’ with every breath—was this the confidence that came with power and status?
"What are you still standing here for, you peasant? Didn’t you hear me? Get the hell out of here!" Bai Li cursed, her face full of impatience.
Just looking at someone as lowly as Lin Meng disgusted her. She might have misunderstood him last time, but so what? If she had found him that day, she might have actually needed to swallow her pride and apologize for the sake of her grandfather’s illness.
But now? She had heard from her father that they had invited a divine doctor who could even cure cancer. They didn’t need him at all anymore!
Regardless, seeing as he had supposedly saved her grandfather last time, she wouldn’t hold this trespassing against him.
"Miss Bai, you are the one asking me to leave. I hope you don’t regret this!" Lin Meng ground out, emphasizing every single word through gritted teeth.
"Tch, you’re just a lowly peasant taking yourself too seriously. You really think you can make me regret anything?" Bai Li scoffed disdainfully.
Seeing this, Lin Meng knew there was nothing left to say. He turned to leave. If he wanted to save Sister Lingshan, going through the Bai family was clearly a dead end. He would just have to put his own life on the line. As for Bai Li’s humiliation, if he was already risking his life, he would just pay her back in full along the way!
"Miss Bai, the tea you asked for is ready."
Just as Lin Meng was lost in thought, a familiar voice suddenly rang out. He looked over in disbelief, only to see Zhao Lingshan slowly walking out, carrying a tray with several cups of tea.
"Xiaomeng, why are you here?"
At the same time, Zhao Lingshan also spotted Lin Meng. In her shock, her hands trembled, and the tray slipped from her grasp.
CRASH!
The teacups shattered all over the floor.
SMACK!
Seeing this, Bai Li slapped Zhao Lingshan directly across the face. "What is wrong with you? You can’t even handle a simple task! Our family brought you here to serve my grandfather, not to be a useless piece of trash!"
"You dare hit Sister Lingshan?!"
Lin Meng’s eyes instantly turned bloodshot. Unable to hold back his fury any longer, he lunged straight at Bai Li.
"You... what do you think you’re doing, you peasant?" Terrified by his ferocious expression, Bai Li’s voice trembled as she backed away in a panic.
"Xiaomeng, calm down!" Zhao Lingshan snapped back to reality and hurriedly threw her arms around Lin Meng to hold him back.
"Oh? You two know each other?" Bai Li instantly realized what was going on, a playful and malicious smirk creeping onto her face.
Lin Meng ignored her, solely concerned about Zhao Lingshan. "Sister Lingshan, are you okay?"
"I’m fine. Xiaomeng, how did you find this place?" Zhao Lingshan asked before quickly shaking her head. "Never mind, that doesn’t matter. I’m so touched that you came looking for me, but you can’t get involved in this.
"Just consider it a plea from your Sister Lingshan. Please, hurry up and leave, okay?"
Ignoring everything else, Zhao Lingshan continuously pushed Lin Meng toward the door, desperate for him to leave. Tears of anxiety were even spilling from her eyes.
