Chapter 167: A Private Chat

"Great. He actually dares to assault someone in public. This kid is extremely dangerous! Break his arms first to stop him from attacking again!" Officer Wu hadn’t expected this kid to be so arrogant in front of the police. A ruthless look surfaced on his face.

The auxiliary police officers exchanged glances. Although they were reluctant, they didn’t dare disobey and all pulled out their batons. Lin Meng wasn’t afraid in the slightest, staring at them coldly.

But just as the distance between the two sides closed and a fight was about to break out, a man’s voice suddenly rang out from the back of the crowd.

"Is Li Dahai, the village head of Taohua Village, here?"

Everyone instinctively looked toward the voice. They saw a middle-aged man and a woman in her thirties walking slowly toward them.

The middle-aged man was slightly balding and looked a bit bloated, but he carried an indescribable air of competence.

The woman, on the other hand, wore a white silk blouse that stretched tight across her ample breasts. A large patch of lustrous, snow-white skin peeked through the gap between two buttons, revealing a faint glimpse of deep cleavage. Black suit trousers tightly hugged her full, round hips. With every step she took, her plump buttocks pressed against the fabric, creating an alluring curve.

The only flaw was that her long, slender legs were slightly bowed. Otherwise, her figure would absolutely be a masterpiece in bed.

"Mayor Luo, Secretary Yang, what brings you here!" Upon seeing the two of them, Li Dahai quickly scrambled to his feet and respectfully jogged over.

Mayor Luo looked at him coldly. "Li Dahai, we’ve received reports that over the years, not only have you embezzled public funds in the village, but you’ve also colluded with criminal syndicates to forcefully seize the villagers’ land. The evidence is conclusive. You need to come back with us to cooperate with the investigation!"

Li Dahai panicked instantly. "Mayor Luo, Secretary Yang, someone is definitely framing me! I’ve worked so hard for the village all these years. I’ve never done such things!"

"How dare you try to argue your way out of this, Li Dahai? I remember the higher-ups allocating hundreds of thousands to Taohua Village for road repairs. It’s been so long, yet when we drove here, the road was unbearably bumpy! There isn’t a single trace of repair work!" Secretary Yang scoffed coldly. Though a woman, she exuded a domineering aura.

"I... I..." Li Dahai was in such a panic that his forehead was covered in cold sweat. He had no idea how to explain himself.

"Li Dahai, you might as well honestly confess. You should know Li Dabiao. He’s already been arrested, and he has confessed to all your dirty dealings!" Yang Xueqing said coldly.

Hearing this, Li Dahai collapsed onto his rear. His face turned pale as he repeatedly muttered, "It’s over... It’s completely over..."

"Damn it! Li Dahai actually embezzled all the road repair funds! No wonder other villages have paved roads while nothing happened here!"

"And my family’s subsidies! He kept saying they hadn’t been issued yet. It looks like he pocketed those too."

"Mayor, Secretary, I can testify! He’s the one who teamed up with Li Dabiao to steal my family’s homestead!"

The surrounding villagers finally realized the truth and couldn’t help but hurl curses, venting all the resentment they had bottled up for over a decade.

Yang Xueqing nodded slightly. "Rest assured, fellow villagers. Since we know about these matters, we definitely won’t let Li Dahai off the hook. We will give you a satisfactory answer!"

"Excellent!" The crowd cheered and burst into applause.

Lin Meng, however, remained very calm. As the mayor and party secretary, it was impossible for them to be completely oblivious to Li Dahai’s actions. Yet, they had never intervened before. For them to show up today, the Bai family had probably started pulling strings.

"AHEM! AHEM!"

Just then, Mayor Luo cleared his throat, silencing the crowd. He asked in a loud, clear voice, "Excuse me, is Lin Meng of Taohua Village here?"

Hearing this, everyone from Taohua Village instinctively turned to look at Lin Meng.

"Are you looking for me?" Startled for a moment, Lin Meng slowly stepped forward.

"It’s like this, Mr. Lin. We heard about you contracting land and leading the villagers to stand up against Li Dahai. We think you have great potential and would like you to be the village head of Taohua Village from now on. I wonder if you would be willing?" Mayor Luo asked with a beaming smile.

The surrounding crowd was instantly shocked. They completely didn’t expect the higher-ups to value Lin Meng so highly.

Lin Meng was equally surprised, wondering if this was also arranged by the Bai family. But then, he glanced at Officer Wu nearby and shook his head. "Mayor, I’d like to agree, but this Officer Wu here claims I kidnapped Li Dabiao and insists on arresting me. I’m afraid it wouldn’t be very appropriate for me to take this position!"

"What?" Mayor Luo was taken aback. Only then did he notice Officer Wu and his men standing nearby. His expression instantly turned stern. "Captain Wu, you’re from the town police station, right? Who authorized you to come here and arrest people?"

"Mayor, Secretary, this is all a misunderstanding." Officer Wu continuously wiped away his cold sweat, feeling like he wanted to die on the spot. If he had known he’d run into this situation, he never would have gotten involved, no matter how much money Li Dahai offered him!

"Since it’s a misunderstanding, you’d better explain yourself." Yang Xueqing glared at him coldly.

Left with no choice, Officer Wu pointed at Li Dahai. "It was him! He lied to me, saying Lin Meng kidnapped Li Dabiao, and even provided false testimony. I only did this because he deceived me."

"Bullshit! You clearly took five hundred thousand from me and agreed to do this! How dare you try to pin all the blame on me? If I’m going down, I’m taking you with me!" Unwilling to take the fall alone, Li Dahai craned his neck and shouted.

"Very well. One bribes, the other takes the bribe. You can both wait to go to prison." Having understood the whole story, Yang Xueqing snorted coldly.

"Mayor Luo, Secretary Yang, I know I was wrong! Please spare me this once! I promise I’ll never dare to do it again!" Terrified, Officer Wu dropped straight to his knees, begging with snot and tears streaming down his face.

Unmoved, Yang Xueqing took out her phone and made a call. Soon, over a dozen people in police uniforms walked over from the back and detained both Li Dahai and Officer Wu.

"Take these two to the station first. Special personnel will handle their case in a few days!" Yang Xueqing ordered.

Subsequently, the ashen-faced Li Dahai and the miserable-looking Officer Wu were escorted away and forced into a car parked in the distance.

The villagers of Taohua Village all looked exhilarated. Li Dahai had thrown his weight around the village for so many years, and now he had finally fallen!

Lin Meng let out a long breath. Without Li Dahai’s threat, he could finally go all out to build his business.

Just then, Yang Xueqing approached him and blinked. "Mr. Lin Meng, could we just have a simple chat?"

"Sure. Follow me, Secretary Yang." Lin Meng nodded. He turned around and led Yang Xueqing to the nearby stream.

"I didn’t expect the scenery in Taohua Village to be so beautiful. If properly developed, it would definitely be a tourist mecca," Yang Xueqing couldn’t help but sigh in admiration as she took in the surroundings.

"Secretary Yang, what did you want to talk to me about?" Lin Meng asked, getting straight to the point.

Only then did Yang Xueqing withdraw her gaze. To his surprise, she suddenly hugged Lin Meng’s arm. "Mr. Lin Meng, you absolutely have to be the village head of Taohua Village. Just consider it a favor to me, please?"
