Chapter 190

By the time they finished discussing Yang Xueqing’s physique, it was already late at night.

Yang Xueqing glanced at the time and offered to let Lin Meng stay the night, arranging for him to sleep in the guest room next door.

Lin Meng didn’t refuse, though he was quite curious about one thing. "Sister Xueqing, why did you have me come over to treat you tonight? Wouldn’t there be more time during the day?"

"You don’t understand. Although I’m only the town secretary, I have countless eyes watching me in the dark. I have to be careful, especially during the day," Yang Xueqing explained softly.

Lin Meng nodded, half-understanding. He truly didn’t know much about the complicated maneuvers of the political arena. After chatting for a few more minutes, Lin Meng went to the next room to rest.

Lying in bed, Lin Meng felt the strengthened aura within his body. While satisfied, he also felt a bit puzzled. He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but he sensed a faint, lingering fragrance on his own skin.

"Can the Yin Yang Great Dao Skill absorb the traits of women with special physiques to alter my own body?" he wondered.

Regardless, this was a good thing. His gamble today had paid off!

It would be an absolute lie to say he had no wicked thoughts when faced with a special physique like the Jade Liquid Fragrance Body. However, Lin Meng had quickly realized that claiming a woman like Yang Xueqing using his usual methods would be incredibly difficult. So, he had chosen to move her with sincerity, revealing all of his secrets.

Fortunately, his gamble paid off. Even though Yang Xueqing had only agreed to use her body to help him cultivate from time to time, this beginning proved that she completely trusted him. As long as he took it slow, everything would naturally fall into place!

The next morning, Lin Meng returned to Taohua Village bright and early.

While walking home, he saw Wu Mengmeng approaching from the opposite direction.

"Xiaomeng, where were you just now? I searched all over the village and couldn’t find you!" Wu Mengmeng ran over the moment she saw him.

"Sister Mengmeng, do you need me for something?" Lin Meng asked curiously.

Wu Mengmeng panted heavily, her impressive chest heaving. "It’s not me. The Village Party Secretary wants you at the village committee for a meeting. She sent me to get you. Let’s not waste time—we need to hurry over, or Secretary Mu might get angry!" Saying this, she grabbed Lin Meng’s arm and dragged him toward the village committee office.

"Sister Mengmeng, is Secretary Mu in a rush?" Lin Meng asked in bewilderment as he was pulled along.

Wu Mengmeng nodded. "Yeah, she just called to ask if I had found you yet. She even said you don’t understand the rules at all."

Lin Meng’s face darkened. "Isn’t this Secretary Mu being a bit unreasonable? She didn’t notify me in advance, so how was I supposed to know there was a meeting?"

Wu Mengmeng coughed awkwardly. "Xiaomeng, you shouldn’t say that. Secretary Mu is actually a very nice person. She’s probably just in a hurry today!"

Lin Meng stared at her in stunned silence. "Sister Mengmeng, it hasn’t even been a day and you’ve already defected to her camp?"

"Oh, don’t put it like that. I’m just sharing my perspective. There might be some misunderstanding between you two. Things will get better once you interact more," Wu Mengmeng said, looking a bit embarrassed.

"Yeah, right!" Lin Meng scoffed inwardly. "This Mu Qinghuan obviously has a problem with me!"

Soon, the two arrived at the village committee office.

Mu Qinghuan was already seated. Besides her, there were a few unimportant village cadres present. The moment Mu Qinghuan saw Lin Meng, her face turned cold. "Lin Meng, as the village chief of Taohua Village, do you have no sense of discipline? We couldn’t even find you when it was time for a meeting!"

Lin Meng instantly grew annoyed. "Secretary Mu, I may be the village chief, but I can’t predict the future. You never informed me there was a meeting today. Am I supposed to drop everything and sit at home every day just waiting for your orders?"

Mu Qinghuan hadn’t expected him to talk back. She stood up in anger. "What did you just say?"

"Secretary Mu, please calm down. Xiaomeng didn’t mean it like that. He genuinely didn’t know about the meeting, so please don’t hold it against him." Wu Mengmeng hurriedly smoothed things over, pulling Lin Meng down into a chair.

"Hmph. I’ll let it slide today, for your sake," Mu Qinghuan said, glancing at Wu Mengmeng. Her expression softened slightly before she got down to business. "I called everyone here today mainly to handle some matters left behind by the former village chief.

"Last night, while looking through the records, I discovered that over the years, Li Dahai embezzled a lot of the government subsidies meant for impoverished households. It totals twenty-eight thousand yuan!

"This amount might not seem like much to some people, but to those struggling families, it’s life-saving money. Because of this, I plan to distribute all of these funds back to them!"

With that said, Mu Qinghuan pulled out a thick stack of cash and slapped it directly onto the table.

Lin Meng was a bit surprised; he hadn’t expected her to call a meeting for this. It seemed that even though she had a lousy temper, she was actually quite reliable as a public official.

Just then, Mu Qinghuan’s gaze landed on him again. "Lin Meng, you are the village chief, so you will be the one distributing this money to the villagers. I have a list here detailing the exact amount for each household. You should be able to handle a minor task like this, right?"

Lin Meng’s face darkened, and he fought the urge to curse her out. The task itself wasn’t complicated, but why did her tone sound so condescending?

"Rest assured, Secretary Mu, he can definitely get it done!" Fearing they would start arguing again, Wu Mengmeng hurriedly agreed on Lin Meng’s behalf and shot him a pointed look.

"Alright then. I’ll leave the money and the list here. I expect you to have all the funds distributed by the end of the day, Village Chief Lin!" Mu Qinghuan nodded, leaving one final instruction before she stood up and walked out of the office.

"Sister Mengmeng, is this what you meant by ’a very nice person’?" Lin Meng couldn’t help but complain. "Why do I feel like she’s deliberately targeting me?"

Wu Mengmeng smiled sheepishly. "I don’t know. She definitely wasn’t like this when we were chatting earlier. Maybe she’s just deliberately acting a bit stricter because we’re at work!"

"If I’d known it would be like this, I would never have become the village chief," Lin Meng huffed in annoyance. "There are zero perks, and I’m stuck doing annoying chores like this."

Wu Mengmeng jumped in alarm. "Xiaomeng, don’t do anything rash! This is a position many people would kill for! It’s just handing out money according to a list. If it comes down to it, I’ll help you! We can split the list in half, and we’ll get it done in no time!"
