Chapter 61: Did You Drink It All?
Chapter 61: Did You Drink It All?
"What? A honey trap set up by my oldest sister?"
Lin Meng was both shocked and infuriated to learn the truth. He thought, "My oldest sister is truly ruthless! To even come up with a honey trap just to drive me out of the house! Just how much does she hate me?"
"Lin Meng, I really didn’t want to do this either, but given our relationship, I simply couldn’t refuse," Wu Mengmeng said apologetically.
"It’s fine, Sister Mengmeng, I don’t blame you." Lin Meng smiled dismissively. Regardless, he had just taken advantage of her, so he had no reason to fault her anyway.
"That’s good. But now that I’ve told you about this, how am I supposed to explain things to Shiyun?" Wu Mengmeng started to fret again.
Lin Meng knew that since Wu Mengmeng was willing to tell him this, she actually had a favorable impression of him. He needed to think of a way so that she wouldn’t be caught in the middle.
He thought, "I’ve got it!" He suddenly came up with an idea. If things went smoothly, it might even resolve the blind date issue along the way.
"Sister Mengmeng, I have a plan. Later, just tell my oldest sister this..."
After listening, Wu Mengmeng’s expression turned peculiar. "But if we do that, won’t it ruin your reputation?"
Lin Meng smiled. "It’s fine. I believe neither you, Sister Mengmeng, nor my oldest sister would gossip about it to outsiders!"
Wu Mengmeng’s eyes filled with gratitude. "Alright then. Thank you, Lin Meng."
"What are you saying? I should be the one thanking you, Sister Mengmeng. Otherwise, I would have truly ended up being despised by my stepmom!" Lin Meng’s expression turned serious, and he scratched his head. "Um, Sister Mengmeng... I’m really sorry for taking advantage of you just now."
"It’s... it’s nothing. I actually felt quite good too." Wu Mengmeng hurriedly shook her head, but as soon as the words left her mouth, she realized how inappropriate they sounded, and her face flushed bright red.
"Ahem, I’ll be going now." Not knowing how to respond either, Lin Meng simply turned around and left.
Not long after Lin Meng’s departure, Li Shiyun appeared at the door of Wu Mengmeng’s house. Wearing a puzzled expression, she walked inside. At that moment, Wu Mengmeng had just finished changing into a fresh pair of panties. Seeing Li Shiyun arrive, she immediately felt a bit guilty. "Shiyun, you’re here."
"Mengmeng, why did Lin Meng leave? Did he not do that kind of thing to you?" Li Shiyun asked in confusion.
Feigning nonchalance, Wu Mengmeng shook her head. "No, he didn’t even touch me."
"How is that possible? Could I have misjudged him? Is he really a true gentleman? But even so, you confessed your feelings to him—he should have had some kind of reaction!" Li Shiyun frowned, unable to wrap her head around it.
Wu Mengmeng cleared her throat softly. "I thought it was strange too, so I asked him. Do you know how he answered?"
Li Shiyun stared straight at Wu Mengmeng, waiting for her to continue. Wu Mengmeng leaned close to her ear and quietly whispered a few words. Instantly, Li Shiyun’s eyes widened in shock, her face full of disbelief!
Meanwhile.
Lin Meng had arrived at the entrance of Cheng Xiue’s house. He had originally gone to Zhang Guilan’s place first to test the effects of the Beauty Liquid. However, Zhang Guilan wasn’t home; she had likely gone to work in the fields, so he had no choice but to seek out Cheng Xiue instead.
Since it was broad daylight and he didn’t know if Li Dahai was home, Lin Meng didn’t dare walk straight in. Instead, he found a hidden spot to observe. About ten minutes later, he saw Li Dahai carrying a black bag and walking out with Cheng Xiue, the two of them chatting incessantly. Shortly after, Li Dahai hopped onto his motorcycle, looking as if he was going on a long trip.
But right at that moment, the black bag slung over his shoulder accidentally slipped and fell, revealing a massive stack of bright red hundred-yuan bills! Lin Meng instantly held his breath, his eyes turning green with envy.
He thought, "Such a large bag... if it’s completely filled with money, there must be at least five or six hundred thousand! Where the hell did this son of a bitch get so much cash?"
By this time, Li Dahai had frantically scooped up the black bag. He glanced left and right before speeding off on his motorcycle. Watching him disappear into the distance, Cheng Xiue turned around, preparing to go back inside.
"Sister-in-law Xiue, aren’t you going out today?" Lin Meng hurriedly walked over and greeted her.
The moment Cheng Xiue saw it was Lin Meng, she smiled so broadly she couldn’t close her mouth. She hastily pulled him into the courtyard. "Xiaomeng, your timing is impeccable! Li Dahai just left, so no one will interrupt us!"
Lin Meng asked impassively, "Did he go out for something specific?"
Cheng Xiue smiled unnaturally. "Him? What business could he possibly have? It’s nothing but playing cards and drinking."
Lin Meng’s face instantly darkened, and he gave her butt cheek a vicious smack. "You’ve got some nerve, Cheng Xiue. Not going to tell me the truth, huh? I clearly saw him carrying a bag stuffed full of cash!"
"You... you saw everything?" Cheng Xiue’s face immediately turned a little pale.
"That’s right, I saw it plain as day.
"Cheng Xiue, you call me your Good Daddy, but deep down, you still don’t take me seriously.
"Since that’s the case, let’s just make a clean break and go our separate ways from now on!" Lin Meng feigned anger, turning around as if to leave.
At this point, how could Cheng Xiue bear to let Lin Meng leave? She hurriedly stopped him. "Good Daddy, I know I was wrong. I’m apologizing to you, isn’t that enough?
"I really didn’t want to lie to you, but this matter is simply too serious. That’s why I didn’t say it straight away."
Lin Meng had a vague guess. "Are you saying that money is dirty?"
Cheng Xiue hesitated for a moment before nodding. "It was allocated from above for rural development—meant to build roads and improve the environment. It was six hundred thousand in total, and Li Dahai embezzled every last cent of it."
He thought, "Holy shit! A full six hundred thousand!"
Lin Meng truly hadn’t expected Li Dahai to be corrupt to this extent. With so much allocated funding, he wasn’t even willing to spare a mere ten thousand to improve the villagers’ lives. With a village chief like that, when would the village people ever live a good life?
"Aside from this, do you know exactly how much money Li Dahai has embezzled in total?" Lin Meng asked with a grim face.
Cheng Xiue stammered, "I don’t know the exact figure, but it should add up to around two million."
Lin Meng was shocked once again. He had previously underestimated that son of a bitch, Li Dahai. If those two million weren’t even entirely used for the village’s development—if just half of it had been spent properly—they definitely wouldn’t be this backward right now.
"Lin Meng, you’re not going to report Li Dahai, are you?" Cheng Xiue asked worriedly.
"What, are you worried about him?" Lin Meng asked in displeasure.
"It’s not that. It’s mainly because if he goes to jail, my good days will surely come to an end too," Cheng Xiue quickly explained, afraid that Lin Meng would misunderstand.
"Relax, I won’t do that for now." Lin Meng shook his head. Even if he truly intended to do so, now wasn’t the time to act. He needed to wait for an opportunity.
Tossing that matter aside, Lin Meng pulled out the Beauty Liquid. "Sister-in-law Xiue, I came here to give you a gift today. Look what this is."
Cheng Xiue took one look at it, and her watery eyes instantly filled with seduction. "Good Daddy, is this what you jerked out all by yourself over the past two days when you were thinking of me? I didn’t expect there to be so much.
"But now that you’ve brought it here, do you want me to drink all of it?"
