Chapter 13: The Villain Senior Brother Turns Dark, the Psychotic Junior Brother Fakes Blindness [13]
Bai Yan mulled it over—well, not exactly.
Yu Beiyan liked him, and she'd already gone so far as to sneak into his room at midnight to cast a gu worm on him. So stealing a belt wasn't that big a deal.
Still, it was a little weird.
As for Ye Beiyu, taking his clothes—who knew what he was up to? Nothing good, that's for sure.
Bai Yan thought to himself as he changed into another set of robes. He still had to go to the back mountain today to check on Ye Beiyu.
A couple of days ago, he'd been angry and wanted to put him in his place.
But now that he'd confirmed Ye Beiyu was faking it, not having the kid where he could see him for days made him uneasy.
Bai Yan lowered his gaze, hiding what was in his eyes.
Today, he was supposed to keep entertaining Yu Beiyan and her crew. But now that he knew her true identity and the unclear intentions she had toward him...
Bai Yan thought about her identity, and then about the unknown Divine Sword Sect.
He wasn't a good person, sure, but the folks at Spirit Mountain Sect had treated him well. He didn't want to cause trouble between Spirit Mountain Sect and the Divine Sword Sect because of him.
Besides, he'd be heading back to the demon realm soon anyway. As for the Twin Gu parasite in his body...
That thing was from the demon realm and should've gone extinct ages ago. Since it hadn't been triggered, he could just take care of it when he got back.
Since Bai Yan didn't want to deal with Yu Beiyan more than he had to, he used the excuse of going to find Ye Beiyu and passed those tasks off to the other disciples.
After all, Yue Qingxian had already set everything up—it was just about sending someone else to handle the talks.
Bai Yan finished giving orders and finally headed to the back mountain.
He slipped through the barrier easily and stepped into the back mountain, but no matter how hard he searched, he couldn't find Ye Beiyu.
Bai Yan finally stopped before a stretch of withered forest that gave off a thick, cold vibe.
There was nothing valuable in this withered forest—it was just a place sealing high-level demonic beasts and some fiend beasts.
Bai Yan narrowed his eyes and asked 717 silently, "Is Ye Beiyu in there?"
717: "Wait, let me check."
So this was it—the moment he slipped up, he'd handed the protagonist a golden opportunity?
Bai Yan was still thinking it over when, before 717 could answer, a voice laced with confusion and joy came from behind him.
"Senior brother? Is that really you, senior brother?"
Bai Yan froze. He turned to see Ye Beiyu standing not far behind him, having appeared out of nowhere, and doubt flickered in his eyes.
He didn't say anything or move closer, just studied Ye Beiyu carefully.
How did he know it was Bai Yan?
Since he didn't get an answer, the joy on Ye Beiyu's face faded a bit, and he spoke again in a small, disappointed voice,
"No... it's not senior brother, is it?"
"Sorry... I smelled senior brother's scent and thought... thought it was you..."
Ye Beiyu apologized, his voice trembling, his face looking uneasy.
That flustered, helpless look did ease some of Bai Yan's suspicion.
Bai Yan watched Ye Beiyu cautiously inch closer, staying put with a hint of amusement in his eyes.
It wasn't until Ye Beiyu was almost right in front of him that the kid tripped on something and came tumbling straight down on him!
Whether on purpose or not, Ye Beiyu's fingers hooked onto Bai Yan's hair ribbon and pulled it off.
As he fell, Ye Beiyu's hand protected the back of Bai Yan's neck, lifting it a bit so his head wouldn't hit the ground.
It all happened so fast that Bai Yan didn't have time to react.
His long black hair spilled everywhere, and one hand instinctively grabbed at Ye Beiyu's robes, since the guy was now pressing down on him.
Ye Beiyu's hand cradled his head while his body pressed against him—they were way too close, their clothes a mess.
Their hair tangled together, and their breaths almost mixed, creating a weirdly intimate vibe.
If Ye Beiyu just leaned down a little more, their lips would touch...
Bai Yan's eyes darkened as he met those pretty eyes. For a split second, he even wondered if Ye Beiyu was really blind.
"Senior brother...? Is it actually you?"
As if to make sure it was him, Ye Beiyu didn't let go and asked again, hesitant.
As he talked, his cool fingertips traced Bai Yan's brow, then landed at the corner of his eye, pressing gently.
Bai Yan's thoughts were cut off. His eyes went cold, and he snapped:
"Ye Beiyu! Get the hell off me."
"Oh, oh—sorry, senior brother, I didn't do it on purpose."
Ye Beiyu finally seemed to snap out of it, as if just now realizing how awkward their position was.
He quickly said okay and got off Bai Yan.
Bai Yan got up too, fixing the robes Ye Beiyu had messed up.
He frowned a little. Maybe it was because of what Yue Qingxian had said about Ye Beiyu liking him.
He knew Ye Beiyu's obedient, harmless act was all to lower his guard—there was no way the kid actually had those kinds of feelings for him.
Yet just now, looking into those eyes, he'd weirdly let his mind wander...
Bai Yan frowned and looked down, not bothering to scold Ye Beiyu anymore.
He turned his back to the kid to get himself together, naturally missing the smirk on Ye Beiyu's lips and the triumphant gleam in his eyes.
Bai Yan just thought his own brief thoughts were ridiculous.
He was the villain, and Ye Beiyu was the protagonist.
Not to mention he'd come to this world with ulterior motives in the first place, and his intentions toward Ye Beiyu were anything but innocent.
Just their identities alone, and the things he had done to Ye Beiyu over the past year or more, made it impossible for Ye Beiyu to have developed feelings like that for him.
Bai Yan had just come to this realization when a hand gathered his hair together.
Bai Yan paused and turned his head to see Ye Beiyu standing beside him, one hand gathering his hair while the other held the hair ribbon that had fallen earlier.
"Senior Brother, let me tie your hair for you."
Ye Beiyu spoke softly as he fumbled for words, "Sorry, Senior Brother, I really didn't mean it just now."
"Why don't you hit me, Senior Brother? Don't be mad at me anymore, okay?"
Ye Beiyu's voice was so innocent, and his apology so sincere, that it was hard to fault him.
Bai Yan let out a low chuckle, raised his hand to grasp Ye Beiyu's wrist, and snatched the hair ribbon back from him.
"Junior Brother... I actually really liked this hair ribbon."
He tilted his head, his gaze falling on the ribbon dangling from his fingertips, his voice lazy and indifferent,
"But now that you've touched it, it's dirty to me."
The casual words landed in his ears, and Bai Yan was pleased to see Ye Beiyu's face go slightly pale, which cheered him up.
Sure enough, no matter the means, as long as he made the protagonist uncomfortable, it made him happy.
With that, Bai Yan carelessly tossed the ribbon aside and turned to leave.
What he didn't know was that after he left, Ye Beiyu picked up the ribbon as if it were a treasure and tucked it away.
"Senior Brother..."
His gaze darkened as he stared at Bai Yan's retreating figure, his tongue pressed against the roof of his mouth.
Thinking of how Bai Yan had dangled the ribbon from his fingertip just now, and of what he had done while holding that hand that night.
That wrist, smooth as warm jade, would look good with something tied around it.
And the hand itself was better meant for holding something else...
