The smile on Bai Yan's face instantly vanished, and he pulled his hand back.
The little fox seemed somewhat confused, tilting his head, his two paws holding onto Bai Yan's wrist, still gazing at him with those big, watery eyes.
Bai Yan set the little fox down and said in a flat tone:
"Be good. I have things to take care of. Wait here for me to come back."
With that, Bai Yan reached out and rubbed his head, then got up to change his clothes.
But as he changed, he noticed that the clothes he had been wearing seemed a bit wrinkled.
Bai Yan frowned slightly. He remembered that he didn't usually toss and turn in his sleep, so how had his clothes gotten so wrinkled?
Just as he was about to examine them closely, he heard a low whimper from the little fox behind him.
Bai Yan turned to look at him, seeing that he seemed reluctant to let him go, lifting his paw as if trying to grab him.
But the little guy's paws were too short to reach, and he could only pull them back in the end.
Bai Yan paused for a moment, then looked at the clothes in his hand, and found it funny.
It seemed this little guy had messed up his clothes after he fell asleep.
Bai Yan even started to wonder if the weird nightmare he'd had was also because the little fox had been lying on top of him.
That feeling of being pressed down until he couldn't breathe, and those weird vines...
Bai Yan's gaze landed on the little fox's tail, and he thought of how he would constantly wrap his tail around his wrist.
Bai Yan felt like he'd found the source of his nightmare.
But he didn't think too much about it, since he had more important things to deal with now.
As for this little fox, he would come back and properly teach him a lesson once he was done.
With that thought, Bai Yan pulled himself together and turned to leave.
Little did he know, after he left, the little fox that had been obediently lying on the bed instantly transformed back into Ye Beiyu.
A faint smile still curled at the corner of Ye Beiyu's lips, the corners of his eyes slightly red. He raised his hand, pressing his fingertips to his lips, savoring what had happened last night.
He had originally planned to just lock Bai Yan up, since he wasn't lacking the ability to do so now.
But before Bai Yan woke up, that demon had come looking for him, but left quickly when he got no response.
That person's reaction suggested he was a bit afraid of Bai Yan.
Ye Beiyu was genuinely curious about what his senior brother had been doing here while he was away.
What he'd heard from those demons alone wasn't enough—he was desperate to know everything.
So he cast an invisibility spell and went out to investigate, and now he had a rough idea of what Bai Yan was planning.
The demon realm... the Demon Sovereign...
Ye Beiyu suddenly felt this wasn't a bad option either.
Once his senior brother became the Demon Sovereign, he could openly keep him trapped by his side, and even if they were discovered, no one could say a thing.
He would lock the man up, make his senior brother completely dependent on him, unable to go anywhere except by his side.
Being trapped in the demon realm was fine too.
It was quieter here, and no one would bother them...
Just thinking about it made Ye Beiyu unable to hold back the crazed anticipation in his eyes.
But until that day came, he wasn't going to let his senior brother off the hook either.
Ye Beiyu held the bedding that still smelled of Bai Yan, bringing it to his nose and inhaling deeply.
A smile curled at the corner of his lips, his mind filled with those almost maddening images, his gaze dark and unreadable as he got lost in thought.
Ye Beiyu realized he had overestimated himself when it came to these things. He thought he could control himself well.
After all, Bai Yan had already fallen into his invisible cage.
Whenever he wanted, he could grab that invisible chain and lock the man by his side forever!
He thought he could hold out, that this short time wouldn't matter.
But in truth, once you've tasted something that sweet, you can never bear to let go.
All his thoughts were consumed by Bai Yan, wishing he could bring him back right now and devour him again and again!
Ye Beiyu's breathing was ragged and heavy as he wrapped himself up in Bai Yan's bedding...
Meanwhile, Bai Yan, who had just arrived at the Demon Sovereign's bedchamber, had no idea that Ye Beiyu was hugging his blanket and doing unspeakable things on his bed.
Bai Yan paused for a moment, then raised his hand to knock on the door.
"Is that A Yan?"
The Demon Sovereign's voice came from within.
Compared to when they first met, the Demon Sovereign's voice now carried a sense of weakness, as if he had aged considerably.
"It's me."
Bai Yan replied with lowered eyes.
The next moment, the door before him was pushed open, and a faint trace of demonic energy lingered in the air, the gust of wind stirring his robes.
Bai Yan calmly raised his eyes and stepped inside.
The Demon Sovereign was leaning against the soft couch, one hand propping up his head, the other spinning two beads in his palm.
Only when he knew Bai Yan had entered did he slowly open his eyes and let out a yawn.
"A Yan, you're here."
The Demon Sovereign's voice was lazy and heavy with drowsiness. He sat up straight, staring intently at Bai Yan for a moment before suddenly breaking into a smile.
"You've been doing quite well in the demon realm these days. I thought you wouldn't adapt."
"It's been fine."
Bai Yan gave a slight nod and cut straight to the point, "You asked to see me—what's this about?"
The Demon Sovereign rose to his feet. He didn't seem bothered by this attitude; Bai Yan had always been this cold and indifferent toward him, and he had grown accustomed to it.
"A Yan, I've found a way to resolve the Twin Gu Worm in your body, but..."
The Demon Sovereign trailed off, merely watching him with a knowing smile.
Bai Yan raised an eyebrow, instantly catching his meaning, and let out a soft chuckle as he spoke: "Alright, what do you need me to do?"
His rapid rise to control much of the demon realm wasn't without the Demon Sovereign's quiet backing.
The Demon Sovereign didn't get where he was by being stupid, yet he still let Bai Yan do as he pleased.
After all, he intended to use Bai Yan to root out demons who were disloyal or threatened his position.
There were too many things he couldn't handle himself as the Demon Sovereign, so he naturally needed Bai Yan—someone in a unique position—to take care of these things for him.
More importantly, the Demon Sovereign could sense the tension and hostility brewing among his other children.
In the past, they could at least fake being brotherly, but now they couldn't even be bothered with the pretense.
Those kids squabbling and fighting was one thing—after all, in the demon realm, it was survival of the fittest.
Only the one who survived would be worthy of inheriting his throne.
But he never expected them to already be eyeing his throne—and even plotting against him!
The more the Demon Sovereign thought about it, the angrier he grew. A murderous glint flashed in his eyes, and he crushed the two beads in his hand to powder, the dust slipping through his fingers.
Meeting Bai Yan's cold gaze, the Demon Sovereign finally steadied himself. He spoke again: "A Yan, I want you to find out who slipped me the poison, and who was behind that assassination attempt last time... Once you find them, handle it yourself."
Bai Yan raised an eyebrow and said bluntly, "If I had to guess, it was my eldest brother and third brother's doing."
"You're really handing this to me? Not worried I'll just off them?"
Bai Yan paused, then said, "Or do you want me to help you..."
"I trust your abilities, A Yan."
The Demon Sovereign interrupted Bai Yan with a smile, which was exactly why he'd chosen Bai Yan.
Bai Yan's status was unique—he'd come to the demon realm only to cure the Gu poison, not to scheme for the throne.
More importantly, Bai Yan had always been cold and aloof, and was once the brilliant prodigy of the Spirit Mountain Sect.
Without the Gu poison, he'd probably never have come to the demon realm at all, let alone cared about the throne.
And since he'd only just returned, he had no ties or emotional baggage with those people, so he wouldn't hesitate to act.
He showered him with "favor," making sure the whole demon realm saw how much he cherished this newly found child—all just to make Bai Yan easier to use.
But in the end, Bai Yan had only been back a short while. Aside from his favor, he had nothing—and these tasks were already making him enemies.
Once he'd used him enough, even if he quietly disposed of him, it wouldn't cause any ripples...
The Demon Sovereign's schemes clicked along in his head, but meeting Bai Yan's calm eyes, he felt a strange unease.
Bai Yan was silent for a long moment, then suddenly smiled. He spoke: "Fine."
"Give me three days, and I'll show you the results you want."
"But besides the antidote for the Twin Gu Worm, I also want a magical artifact..."
