Chapter 100: The Assassin Group Came Looking

Since the job had already been accepted, there was no reason to back out now. Besides, Lin Jian wouldn’t lose his temper over taking on a single commission. Xu Xiaohui and the others just wanted to show some results, which was completely understandable.

However, there were a few things he needed to make absolutely clear.

Pulling up six chairs, the group turned the pool table into a makeshift conference table. Huang Mao handed out bottles of water to everyone before taking a seat. This marked the first shareholder and employee meeting since the establishment of Ruyi Business Consulting Co., Ltd.

"There are a few things I need to make clear," Lin Jian said. "First, we absolutely will not do anything illegal. Helping people collect debts is fine, but we have to use legitimate methods and proper channels.

"Second, Hui, Chuangzi, and Tan Jian aren’t very familiar with the business yet, so Cyan Dragon, you need to keep a close eye on things.

"Third, Ruyi Company is just an experiment for us. We can’t rely on debt collection forever to keep the company afloat. Therefore, I hope our start will reflect the company’s name—may everything go as we wish. However, we won’t necessarily run this kind of debt collection agency in the long term. Your early teamwork and adjustment period are crucial, because I definitely plan to pivot the business later on.

"And fourth, regarding the company’s equity structure, I’ve thought about it. Since we set up this company together, everyone gets a share. I’ll hold seventy-five percent, and you guys can split the remaining twenty-five percent equally.

"Cyan Dragon, find Lawyer Meng tomorrow to draft an equity distribution agreement."

"Understood. Thank you, boss!" Wang Qinglong didn’t act coy at all; his eyes practically lit up.

Huang Mao was even more thrilled. Did this mean he was a shareholder now?

"One more thing."

Lin Jian took out his phone and created a WeChat group, pulling all five of them in. He then sent a photo of Old Cat along with a message he had drafted.

"This man’s nickname is Old Cat; his real name is unknown," Lin Jian explained. "He’s the head of a massive crime syndicate. He has been involved in grave robbing for a long time and founded a criminal organization called the Nightwalker Guild.

"I took a job to find him. The payout isn’t high, only a hundred and fifty thousand in total. Naturally, it’s just to *find* him, not capture him. We only need to figure out his whereabouts. Getting his exact location or address will suffice.

"So, Hui, once you guys finish this debt collection job, head straight to Lantian County in Anxi City. According to reliable information, he’s going to show up there to rob a tomb.

"I’ve already sent you the specific details in the text. Keep in touch at all times, and notify me the second you find him. Also, the company will cover your expenses for tracking him down. Speaking of which, the company needs an accountant." Lin Jian looked at Wang Qinglong as he spoke.

"Let Huang Mao take the role," Wang Qinglong said with a smile. "Having too many people around isn’t a good idea, and at the very least, Huang Mao graduated from a vocational school with a degree in accounting."

"Ahem, Long, stop making fun of me. You call my vocational diploma a real degree?" Huang Mao said sheepishly.

"Even so, you can handle basic addition, subtraction, simple financial statements, and tracking income and expenses, right?" Wang Qinglong asked.

"Well, yeah, I can do that," Huang Mao said, scratching his head in embarrassment.

Lin Jian chuckled and tossed a cigarette to Huang Mao. "Then it’s you. It saves us an extra expense. You can hold a concurrent post as a shareholder."

Huang Mao caught the cigarette and grinned. Everyone relaxed and started smoking, quickly filling the room with swirling clouds of smoke.

Lin Jian stayed with the group until ten o’clock that night, playing two rounds of pool before finally leaving. Instead of heading back to her place to bother her, he sent a video call to Ye Ziqiu.

The call connected, but the screen was pitch black. Obviously, Ye Ziqiu didn’t want this pervert seeing her in bed.

"Are you driving? When are you coming back?" Ye Ziqiu actually missed him a little. She was falling in love. In the two hours since Lin Jian had left, she desperately wanted to know where he was and what he was doing, but she was too embarrassed to call and ask.

"I’ll probably come back tomorrow morning. Did you forget I’m going to the Ghost Market at midnight? I won’t go back and bother you."

"What do you mean you won’t *bother* me? That’s not the right word. You should say you won’t *disturb my rest*."

"Right, right, I won’t disturb your rest. But Old Ye, let me take a quick peek at you."

"No, no, no... I can only let you take a quick peek at my..." As she spoke, she flashed her phone camera over her book.

Ye Ziqiu then giggled. They chatted for a long while before she finally hung up, worried that it wasn’t safe for him to drive while talking.

After ending the call, Lin Jian checked his WeChat and saw a new message from Shen Ke. It was an angry little red face emoji. The implication was obvious—she had shown him her legs, yet he still hadn’t replied to her message.

Lin Jian replied with a ’kiss’ emoji. Unfortunately, Shen Ke wasn’t online. He waited for a while, but she never replied.

A short while later, he arrived at Wudaokou. Just as he parked his car and was about to hit a nearby barbecue stall for some skewers and beer, an unknown number suddenly called his phone. Lin Jian glanced at the time with an odd expression. It was ten-forty at night! Who would be looking for him this late?

He pressed the answer button but didn’t rush to speak. The person on the other end was also silent, not saying a word.

"Idiot. Sick in the head!" Cursing, he went to hang up the phone.

However, a cold sneer suddenly came from the receiver. "Lin Jian?"

"Who’s this?" Lin Jian asked, putting the phone on speaker.

"Heh, don’t ask who I am..."

"Screw off, you idiot." Without waiting for the other party to finish acting tough, he simply hung up.

They had called him just to act pretentious and play the silent game? There was no way he was going to indulge such a stupid habit. Hanging up the phone, he got out of the car and headed toward the barbecue stall.

But just then, his phone rang again. It was the same number!

Lin Jian answered it again and cursed, "If you can’t speak like a normal human being, then get lost."

"You killed Young Master Chu and Gao Dakuan, didn’t you?" Suddenly, the person on the phone cut straight to the chase!

Lin Jian stopped dead in his tracks. He didn’t know the name of that young master, nor did he know the name of the miniature Giant. However, the two people the caller mentioned were exactly the ones he had killed the night before.

"I don’t understand what you’re saying. If you have something to say, say it directly. Otherwise, I’ll treat your words as passing gas!" Lin Jian didn’t fall for the trap, completely refusing to take the bait.

"Hmph. Give me the item that was on Young Master Chu’s body, and I can spare your life."

"Stop right there, stop. Say whatever you want to say directly. Don’t beat around the bush, I really have no clue what you’re talking about. I’m hanging up. Call back when you’ve figured out what to say, you idiot!"

"You..." The person on the phone sounded like they were about to explode with rage.

But before they could lash out, Lin Jian hung up the phone again!

At the same time, Lin Jian’s expression turned gloomy and cold. He knew this matter wouldn’t end so easily, but he just hadn’t expected them to track him down again so quickly.
