Chapter 138: Only a Fierce Dragon Dares to Cross the River
Chapter 138: Only a Fierce Dragon Dares to Cross the River
Lin Jian knew very well that the game between him and Jin Er had already begun.
The prizes for this game were twofold: a life, and 8.8 billion!
Although 8.8 billion sounded like an astronomical figure, wasn’t the life of a supreme expert approaching the Grandmaster realm worth that much? Besides, Jin Er definitely had more than just 8.8 billion, right? His wealth had to be measured in the tens of billions. Thus, robbing the rich to feed himself—the poor—was perfectly justified!
Of course, Lin Jian also knew he might not end up getting the 8.8 billion in the end! The pride of a Beijing Circle bigwig couldn’t be bought with money; otherwise, Jin Er would have no standing left in the underworld. Therefore, this game was destined to end in a life-and-death struggle!
He didn’t enter the Four Seasons Hotel. Instead, he stood outside and took a look from afar. People had already started gathering around it.
He had to admit that Jin Er’s influence was extremely massive. He was just a commoner. Perhaps during the Man Qing dynasty, he was a descendant of the Eight Banners, but in modern society, he was nothing but a commoner. Yet, this commoner possessed such immense power! He could even investigate the guest check-in information of a five-star hotel like this. Just how vast was his influence?
And this was what it meant to be a Grandmaster.
However, Lin Jian felt that there was likely more than one Grandmaster in Capital City. The legendary Great Palace and the legendary West Mountain probably had super experts holding the fort. It was highly possible that those super experts were Grandmasters—perhaps even existences that surpassed them.
Outside the Four Seasons Hotel, in a black Mercedes-Benz, a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses was on the phone. "Master Cui, the target hasn’t returned yet, but he is definitely staying here. We’ve already pulled up the surveillance footage."
"Yes, I know, I know. Alright!"
After hanging up, the man rolled down the window and shouted, "Disperse. Don’t linger around here, but make sure you can get back within five minutes."
"Understood!"
Several cars drove away, one after the other. But the Mercedes-Benz remained motionless, parked in the lot with the engine off, waiting in silence.
Hidden in the dark, Lin Jian was now certain that this bespectacled man could probably speak directly to Jin Er. Taking a deep breath, he emerged from behind a tree and quickly walked up to the Mercedes. Before the four-eyed man could even react, Lin Jian punched right through the window, slamming his fist directly into the man’s head!
CRASH!
The man had a gun in his jacket, but he was knocked unconscious by Lin Jian before he could even draw it. Lin Jian swiftly snatched his phone, turned around, and vanished into the night!
A moment later, he arrived on the roof of a nearby building and checked the recent call logs on the phone. The last number was saved as "Master Cui"!
After a moment of thought, Lin Jian used the phone to call back.
Master Cui picked up immediately. "Liu, is he back?"
"Yeah, I’m back!" Lin Jian said with a chuckle.
The man on the other end suddenly choked up, then drew a sharp breath of cold air. What a kid! Liu had been taken out just like that?
"Your surname is Cui?" Lin Jian asked curiously. "What is your relationship with Master Jin Er? Can you put him on the phone?"
Master Cui chuckled. "You can say whatever you want directly to me. Young man, you’re not bad. The Capital City underworld is bustling because of you. They all say you’re a fierce dragon crossing the river. I certainly hope you’re a fierce dragon, not a little bug!
"After all, we have nothing to do all day and want to find some amusement. Your arrival has brought us endless fun. Since you took Liu’s phone, the game has officially begun."
"Is Master Jin too scared to meet me?" Lin Jian wasn’t going to waste time talking nonsense. The game had started long ago!
"You want to see me?" Suddenly, the phone seemed to be snatched away, and a deep, resonant voice rang out. "Little boy, if you want to see me, come to the Hongde Building tonight at 2:00 AM. I’ll be waiting for you on the third floor. Do you dare to come?"
"Is the Hongde Building easy to find? Will a taxi know where it is?"
"Yes. It’s in the Haidian District. The navigation will take you right there. It’s a restaurant!"
"Alright, 2:00 AM tonight, be there or be square. But I won’t take your life tonight. We agreed on three days, so after we meet, you’d better start getting the money ready!"
With that, Lin Jian tossed the phone straight off the roof.
Meanwhile, Master Jin Er yawned. "Make the arrangements. I’m going upstairs to get some sleep. Wake me up if he comes tonight. If he doesn’t, keep searching for him, and then peel his skin off."
"Understood."
After taking back the phone, Cui quickly dialed a number. "Mr. Feng, Master Jin Er needs you to come to the Hongde Building tonight. Yes, arriving at 10:00 PM will be fine!"
After hanging up with Mr. Feng, Cui dialed another number. "Is this Mr. Mei? Master Jin Er needs you at the Hongde Building tonight. Someone is coming to storm the building! Yes, we’ll only feel secure if you’re here! Alright, alright, that’s it!"
After calling two people in a row, Cui continued dialing. "Mr. Qin? We need you to come to the Hongde Building. Someone is storming the building tonight!"
He proceeded to dial a fourth number, but when this one connected, Cui spoke in a commanding tone. "Bring your men. I need the ones with the best skills—about thirty of them. Come to the Hongde Building. Someone is storming the building tonight. Come immediately!"
Only after hanging up did Cui finally let out a sigh of relief.
Master Jin Er was on the third floor. Therefore, when the opponent arrived, he would have to fight his way from the first floor up to the third! The space between the first and third floors was the gauntlet. Only if he could breach it would he have the right to meet Master Jin Er. Otherwise, he simply didn’t qualify to stand before him!
So, if Lin Jian dared to come tonight, he could forget about leaving alive! And this farce about a fierce dragon crossing the river would finally be put to an end.
Meanwhile, the news of Lin Jian storming the building and meeting Master Jin Er at 2:00 AM at the Hongde Building was leaked by an unknown source. In an instant, the entire Capital City underworld was boiling with excitement! Many people moved from the bars and headed toward the vicinity of the Hongde Building in the Haidian District!
It was said that the Hongde Building was a restaurant opened by Jin Er, and he would occasionally stay there. Most importantly, it was a standalone building with only three floors in total. Its facade was particularly grand, and the carvings on the eaves were all crafted by master artisans. In short, the Hongde Building alone was worth six to seven hundred million, as land there was worth its weight in gold.
Naturally, the commotion in Capital City didn’t just spread within the Martial Artist circles; people in other circles were talking about it too.
For instance, in a courtyard in West Mountain, located in the Suburbs of Beijing, an old man listening to a radio received the explosive news from the underworld.
"Just children playing house. Ignore it."
In the old man’s eyes, Jin Er and his lot were nothing but children playing house! What Grandmasters or whatever? To the old man, they weren’t even worth a fart!
Likewise, in a small courtyard within the Great Palace, someone came to report the bustling activity in Capital City tonight. However, the male master of the courtyard, dressed in a martial arts uniform, merely shook his head and chuckled, dismissing it with contempt.
Were Grandmasters considered gods? Were they truly that impressive?
The frog at the bottom of the well would never know how high the sky was or how vast the earth stretched!
