Chapter 146: The Illegitimate Son of the Qin Family

At six in the evening, Lin Jian and Qin San’Er walked out of the Haidian Police Station and continued their drive to the airport. Since Lin Jian had two witnesses, his visit to the station was merely to make a routine statement. Thus, he had an alibi and no time to commit the crime.

Naturally, the Capital City and the entire Huaxia Ancient Martial Circle were shaken! Jin Er had been making headlines for the past two days, so all parties were closely watching the feud between him and Lin Jian. However, less than three days had passed, and Jin Er was already dead!

Rumor had it that Jin Er was killed by an awl stabbed through his temple, and he hadn’t even put up a fight. The most bizarre part was that Lin Jian was actually dining at the crime scene! Jin Er died on the third floor while Lin Jian was eating on the first floor!

Furthermore, rumors stated that Lin Jian had two crucial witnesses proving he had neither the time nor the opportunity to kill Jin Er. Those two witnesses were the plainclothes officers from the Chaoyang Police Station whom he had requested for personal protection. The two officers had been with him the entire time, leaving him with absolutely no window to commit the murder.

However, Lin Jian bringing two plainclothes officers to dine at the Hongde Building seemed to foreshadow something. It was as if he knew Jin Er was going to die, so he had preemptively found two officials to serve as his witnesses. Perhaps Lin Jian did kill Jin Er, and the two officers simply hadn’t noticed. Or perhaps Lin Jian didn’t kill him, but he knew who did and was just there to watch the show.

The entire case was too suspenseful and utterly shocking. Even now, Qin San’Er found himself sneaking glances at Lin Jian over and over again.

The two had already boarded their flight and were cruising at an altitude of ten thousand meters. Because the tickets were booked at the last minute, there were no first-class seats available, only economy.

"Is there a flower growing on my face?" Lin Jian turned his head and glared at him.

"Boss, you... was it you?" Qin San’Er asked curiously.

Lin Jian smiled. "What do you think?"

"I’m guessing it was you, but... you really never left our sight. How did you do it? You have to understand, Jin Er was a living, breathing person, and a Half-Step Grandmaster at that!"

"Stop guessing. You will never figure it out," Lin Jian said, shaking his head. "Go to sleep."

"Oh, what are we going to Anxi for?"

Qin San’Er had no idea what Lin Jian planned to do in Anxi. Keeping his eyes closed, Lin Jian replied, "To kill someone."

Qin San’Er opened his mouth, speechless. If he had harbored any doubts about Lin Jian’s words before, he was now certain that if Lin Jian said he was going to kill someone, he was definitely going to kill someone!

Late at night, in Modu.

Chen Zhiyuan and Xu Fengbin were drinking tea in a teahouse. However, neither of them had spoken a word. In the beginning, Chen Zhiyuan’s hands were even trembling slightly. Fortunately, Xu Fengbin remained composed, which allowed Chen Zhiyuan to gradually calm down. Of course, Chen Zhiyuan’s trembling wasn’t out of fear, but rather an indescribable sense of excitement and disbelief.

Lin Jian had actually killed Jin Er. Moreover, the news from the Capital City was that Lin Jian had brought two plainclothes officers along as witnesses. This meant that not only did he kill his target, but he also had official personnel providing testimony to prove his innocence! Such methods... Such calculating depth... Lin Jian was astoundingly brilliant—almost terrifyingly so!

And who was Jin Er? He was an illustrious figure hundreds of times more formidable than Chen Zhiyuan. One could even say that, in Jin Er’s eyes, someone like Xu Fengbin was merely a minor character. Jin Er might not have been as wealthy as Chen Zhiyuan, but his status was undisputed. Yet, such a prominent figure had been slaughtered by a nobody who worked as a security guard...

At the same time, Chen Zhiyuan recalled the previous spar between Xu Fengbin and Lin Jian. He now roughly understood that Lin Jian was much more formidable than Xu Fengbin.

"This guy is a monster!" Chen Zhiyuan finally let out a deep breath after a long while.

"Indeed. So, do you still want him to be your bodyguard now?" Xu Fengbin chuckled.

Chen Zhiyuan waved his hand. "I can’t afford him. I definitely can’t afford him!"

"But Feng Bin, you should know how Jin Er died, right?"

"I do." Xu Fengbin nodded. "But I can’t say."

"You can’t even tell me?" Chen Zhiyuan asked, displeased.

"I can’t!" Xu Fengbin shook his head. "Knowing too much will only be bad for you. Lin Jian is an inexperienced but fearless youth, right at the peak of his vigor and sharpness. So, it’s fine for me to know his secrets, but it wouldn’t necessarily be a good thing for you!"

"Stop, stop, don’t say another word. I don’t want to know anymore. That kid is indeed a fearless youth, a total greenhorn. Those are exactly the types I fear the most."

"Haha, curiosity doesn’t just kill the cat; it kills people, too!"

"Hmph." Chen Zhiyuan snorted in dissatisfaction. "That little brat extorted fifty-eight million from me in total. He really is a piece of work!"

Xu Fengbin smiled. "Lin Jian didn’t extort any money from Jin Er, but Jin Er is dead."

"Yeah, dead!" Chen Zhiyuan sighed. "No matter how much money you have, you can’t take it with you when you die. Jin Er made the wrong choice!"

"This kid turned off his phone. I don’t know what he’s up to." Xu Fengbin dialed Lin Jian’s number again, but it still didn’t go through.

"I reckon his phone number isn’t a secret anymore. Anyone with a mind to find out definitely can, so he’s bound to get a lot of calls from strangers over the next few days."

"True." Xu Fengbin nodded. "Then we’ll just wait for him to call back!"

While Xu Fengbin and Chen Zhiyuan were chatting, the Qin Family’s estate in the Capital City was also brightly lit!

Seventy-year-old Mr. Qin sat in the main hall. Despite his advanced age, he looked to be around sixty, with very few wrinkles on his face. His piercing gaze made it clear that he was full of vigor and spirit.

Seated below him were two middle-aged men in their fifties. These two were Mr. Qin’s sons: the eldest, Qin Fuguo, and the second son, Qin Fuhua. Qin Fuguo was Qin San’Er’s father, as well as the Mr. Qin who had previously been injured by Lin Jian.

At this moment, Qin Fuhua spoke up. "The young man following Lin Jian is indeed Qin Nan. He went missing half a month ago and has been unreachable since. We’ve been looking for him, but we never expected him to get mixed up with Lin Jian!"

"Why did he go missing?" Mr. Qin asked coldly.

Qin Fuhua pondered for a moment before glancing at his older brother, Qin Fuguo.

Qin Fuguo sighed. "I beat him, and then the kid ran away."

"Why do you always beat him? Is he not your biological son?" Mr. Qin said angrily.

Qin Fuguo remained silent.

"Have you done a paternity test?" Mr. Qin pressed.

"AHEM, no!" Qin Fuguo coughed awkwardly.

Qin Nan was his illegitimate son. After he fooled around outside, a pregnant woman had come looking for the Qin Family. Once the child was born, he forcibly kept the baby in the family and sent the woman away with a sum of money. When Qin Nan was young, he bore some resemblance to him, but as he grew older, the likeness faded. Later, Qin Fuguo constantly heard people gossiping behind his back, wondering whose seed the boy really was, claiming that the woman had merely been looking for a scapegoat! Consequently, the thorn in Qin Fuguo’s heart grew larger. He found Qin Nan increasingly displeasing to the eye, resulting in the boy being beaten by him from childhood to adulthood. However, he had never done a paternity test because, deep down, he acknowledged Qin Nan as his son; otherwise, he wouldn’t have kept him in the first place. Yet, he couldn’t stand people wagging their tongues, which left that lingering thorn in his heart.

"Hmph, foolish," Mr. Qin snorted angrily. "Whether he is your biological son or not, beating him like that would make anyone hate you, and by extension, hate the Qin Family!

"If his wings harden in the future, what happens when he comes back to seek revenge against our family?

"You are raising a wolf, nurturing a potential enemy. Utterly foolish!

"So find him and bring him back. Whether he is yours or not, it is best to cripple him completely."

"Yes!" Qin Guofu bowed his head in compliance.
