Chapter 155: Thrilling Treasure Hunt

CLANG!

Without any warning, the Treasure Sword lying on the ground automatically unsheathed itself and hovered in midair!

The woman who was pushing the mummified corpse saw this and instantly froze on the spot! Old Cat, who had already run to the back door with a backpack slung over his shoulder, casually glanced back and saw this scene. He was scared out of his wits!

This was too bizarre. Too eerie. That sword could actually fly on its own!?

However, just as Old Cat’s heart pounded wildly and he was about to dash out the back door, the hovering Treasure Sword suddenly transformed into a flash of cold light!

SQUELCH!

Seemingly faster than Lightning, in that split second, Old Cat felt a sharp pain in his back. The next second, he blankly looked down. The Treasure Sword had actually pierced straight through his chest!

THUD!

Old Cat crashed heavily onto the ground, completely motionless! Meanwhile, the sword slowly pulled itself out and pointed directly at the woman!

"Upper Immortal, spare my life!" With a heavy thud, the woman dropped to her knees in front of the mummified corpse. She believed that the mummified corpse was casting a spell. Otherwise, there was no explaining this phenomenon!

However, amidst the violent tremors shaking the inside and outside of the stone chamber, the ceiling suddenly collapsed. A massive stone slab plummeted from above. Just as the woman sharply looked up, the slab smashed her into a bloody pulp!

At the same time, the outer corridor also caved in. Massive amounts of yellow earth and rubble poured down! Lin Jian immediately shielded Shen Ke in his arms. Simultaneously, a rock struck the back of Lin Jian’s head. The chaotic shower of debris quickly buried the two of them.

An unknown amount of time passed before Lin Jian was awakened by the sound of crying. The moment he regained consciousness, he felt a splitting headache and intense dizziness.

"Lin Jian, you’re awake! You’re finally awake! Waaa!" Shen Ke was huddled in his embrace. Her tears had completely soaked the front of his shirt.

Lin Jian shook his head and realized that he and Shen Ke were currently trapped beneath a massive stone slab! Because they had been close to the stone door, when the collapse happened, one of the falling stone slabs had partially rested against the door, creating a tiny pocket of space right where they were. Naturally, the cramped space was incredibly tight for the two of them. It was unbearably hot and stuffy, and their oxygen was rapidly depleting!

After taking in their situation, Lin Jian took a deep breath. Meanwhile, Shen Ke, shrinking into his chest, looked exceptionally pitiful and endearing.

"Shen Ke, it’s okay. We won’t die!" Lin Jian gently hugged her, pulling her even closer to him.

"I’m not afraid of dying. I’m afraid of you... afraid of you dying first," Shen Ke said, wiping her tears on Lin Jian’s clothes. "You wouldn’t wake up no matter how much I called you earlier, and you weren’t speaking. I was so scared.

"Now that you’re awake, I’m not even afraid of death. With you here, I’m not afraid of anything." As she spoke, she burrowed deeper into his embrace.

Lin Jian took a deep breath and released his Thought. He discovered that the way back was completely blocked off; the entire hundred-meter-long passage was buried. Although the stone chamber had also collapsed, there were still many gaps. For example, there was a small hole by the back door, just large enough for a person to crawl through! Moreover, the stone chamber hadn’t completely caved in, meaning he and Shen Ke could definitely escape through the back door.

"Shen Ke, let’s switch positions. Get underneath me." Lin Jian arched his back and signaled for Shen Ke to turn around and crouch down on her hands and knees.

In the darkness, Shen Ke blushed. "No, let’s just stay like this." She thought they couldn’t get out and wanted to maintain this pose until they died here. To say this woman was optimistic would be an understatement. Holding the man she loved, even facing death seemed romantic enough to leave a sweet feeling in her heart.

Lin Jian was left speechless, knowing she had misunderstood him. Between tears and laughter, he explained, "Let’s switch places. I need to be on the outside, because if we stay like this, we’ll both suffocate to death."

"But... but... there was a cave-in! We’re buried in yellow earth!" Shen Ke reminded him.

Lin Jian nodded. "We are buried, but not too deeply. If we dig out about two meters, we can get out. We can climb over the door and get into the stone chamber."

"Really?" Shen Ke didn’t believe him. How did Lin Jian know they weren’t buried deeply? She had tried for quite a while earlier and hadn’t managed to dig away any dirt.

"Of course it’s true. Hurry up and shift over. Get underneath me."

"Oh, okay!" Only then did Shen Ke shrink her body, slowly turning around until her back was to him, assuming a crouched, crawling posture. And this posture was wildly suggestive.

Lin Jian shimmied to the outside. In truth, he wasn’t in the mood for any jokes right now. If he didn’t dig them out soon, they really would suffocate. So, while keeping his body arched, he used the Bone-Carving Knife to continuously dig upward at an angle. As he kept digging, the falling dirt gradually buried Shen Ke halfway. But she didn’t utter a single word of complaint. Perhaps, at this moment, even if Lin Jian was burying her alive, she would gladly accept it.

Fortunately, before she was entirely covered, Lin Jian suddenly pushed forcefully outward!

WHOOSH!

A stream of cool air instantly rushed in!

"We’re through!" Shen Ke was beyond thrilled!

Lin Jian looked down to see that the yellow earth had buried her right up to her neck; she was huddled in the dirt like a little puppy!

PFFT!

Seeing Shen Ke in this state, Lin Jian almost burst out laughing! Anxious, Shen Ke asked, "Can we get out?"

"Yes." Lin Jian ducked back in and used both hands to dig her arms out. With Shen Ke pushing as well, her body completely squeezed out of the dirt a moment later!

"I’ll go up first. Give me your hands in a moment." Lin Jian climbed up first, then hung upside down to pull Shen Ke out of the narrow space!

The moment they emerged, they were greeted by the sight of the thoroughly ruined stone chamber! Lin Jian cleared a path in the front, practically circling the entire stone chamber to lead Shen Ke to the back door!

"Old Cat!" Shen Ke spotted a pair of feet buried under the yellow earth and rubble.

Lin Jian nodded.

Shen Ke let out a long sigh. For Old Cat to die here in such a manner, it truly was... a case of man proposing, but God disposing!

At this time, Lin Jian said, "Wait for me here. I’m going back in to find a few things!"

That sword, the seven Seven-Star Spirit Stones, and the Little Golden Volume were all definitely good items. Therefore, Lin Jian had to retrieve these treasures no matter what.

A full hour later, he finally succeeded in retrieving the seven Seven-Star Spirit Stones, the Little Golden Volume, and the Treasure Sword. Unfortunately, he couldn’t dig out the sword’s scabbard. It was worth noting that in such a damp environment, the scabbard hadn’t rotted away, meaning it was no ordinary item either. It was just a pity he couldn’t unearth it!

Naturally, the Treasure Sword itself was the real deal. Its blade was as smooth as new, gleaming brightly as if it had just been polished! Therefore, it was a sword that would never rust!

A moment later, Lin Jian, carrying the sword and with the seven Spirit Stones and the Little Golden Volume tied to his waist, crawled to the small hole at the back door. However, as soon as he reached the back door, he saw Shen Ke staring blankly at the travel bag placed in front of her. She had already opened the bag. The colorful jewels and gleaming gold lumps inside nearly blinded Lin Jian!
