Chapter 167: A Dim-Witted Grandmaster?
Chapter 167: A Dim-Witted Grandmaster?
Lin Jian thought Dongfang Wan was calling the old man, but once the call connected, he realized that wasn’t the case.
"Where are you? Come to my house immediately!" She hung up right after giving the command and dialed another number.
This time, as soon as the call went through, her voice carried a hint of tears. "Grandpa, I need the exact location where Wei Hong had his accident. I know it’s useless, but... but the family found a master for me. He said if he had the exact location, he could calculate whether Wei Hong is dead or alive!"
The other end of the line fell silent.
Lin Jian was rendered utterly speechless. On the surface, this woman looked gentle, elegant, and fragile, but in reality, she was quite shrewd. The fact that she could come up with a way to gather military intelligence so quickly proved that Dongfang Wan was far more than just a pretty face.
"Grandpa, if you don’t give me his exact location, I’m leaving the two children with you. You can raise them just like you raised Wei Hong...
"Okay, thank you, Grandpa. I’ll wait for your call!"
The old man on the other end must have softened his heart and grown worried. Losing their father was already tragic enough for the children. If they lost their mother too, how pitiful would they be? Therefore, the old man was willing to bend the rules. Then again, they were all family, and they were all military personnel, so it didn’t really count as a violation of discipline. However, he still needed to make some calls to ask around—after all, he was already retired.
Five minutes later, the old man called back. "I had Qi deliver it to you. There are markings on the map."
He didn’t explain over the phone; instead, he sent a map!
Dongfang Wan finally breathed a sigh of relief as tears rolled down her cheeks. "Thank you, Grandpa."
"If the master can... Forget it, forget it..." The old man also wanted to know whether his grandson was dead or alive, but he was afraid of hearing bad news. So, he sighed and hung up the phone.
Half an hour later, the old man’s guard, Qi, delivered the map. The moment he left, a hulking figure arrived, pounding heavily on the door. The giant was probably over 190 centimeters tall. More importantly, he was incredibly robust, built like an iron tower.
As soon as he entered, he glanced at Dongfang Wan, then turned his gaze to Lin Jian, who was already holding the map and preparing to leave. However, when Lin Jian saw this tower-like man, he was greatly startled.
A Grandmaster! And a Grandmaster covered in bulging muscles at that!
Lin Jian was astounded. This guy had definitely mastered hard qigong techniques like the Golden Bell or Iron Shirt. He was an expert who cultivated both internally and externally!
With a solemn face, Dongfang Wan said, "From now on, you are to listen to Lin Jian’s every word. He is the one who saved your two little nephews. He is our family’s benefactor, and my, Dongfang Wan’s, personal benefactor.
"So, if he tells you to go east, you don’t go west. You must obey him one hundred percent, got it?"
"Got it," the man replied in a muffled, booming voice, scratching his head.
Dongfang Wan then looked at Lin Jian. "Dongfang Shun. You can call him Shunzi. He’s my brother—my biological brother—but he’s not very bright."
Lin Jian opened his mouth, speechless. Dongfang Wan was gentle and lovely, yet her brother looked like a lumbering bear. Were they really born from the same mother? This was too bizarre. Naturally, Lin Jian also realized that Dongfang Wan’s family was likely an Ancient Martial Clan as well.
"Go, Lin Jian. Whether Wei Hong is dead or alive, both you and my brother must return safely." Saying that, she smoothed Lin Jian’s clothes and gave him a gentle hug.
Lin Jian patted her back. "Don’t worry, Wan." With that, he turned and walked out.
Dongfang Shun immediately followed.
After the two made their way downstairs and got into the car, Lin Jian directly instructed, "To the airport." As he spoke, he took out his phone and dialed Chen Taohua’s number.
Chen Dachun, who was driving, was surprised but didn’t dare to ask questions.
Chen Taohua picked up very quickly, answering the call before it could even ring twice.
Lin Jian cut straight to the chase. "Taohua, I need to go to Myanmar, Laos, or Thailand right now. Do you have a way?"
"What? You..." Chen Taohua was dazed. What was going on? Hadn’t they agreed that he would go out to sea on a ship in a few days? Why did he suddenly want to go to these three countries? "Where exactly do you want to go?"
"Anywhere is fine. Whichever of these three countries I can get to the fastest will do!"
"All three countries offer visas on arrival, and you can stay locally for thirty days."
"Then can you book a flight for me? Preferably to the city closest to the Golden Triangle. I need to leave right now. Also, don’t ask why. I’m in a huge hurry to save someone!"
Hearing Lin Jian’s words, Chen Taohua, who had originally wanted to ask for more details, let out a sharp GASP. "I’ll book the tickets for you immediately. We have business operations over there too, so I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up and act as your translator."
As expected, Chen Taohua’s thinking was incredibly comprehensive and thoughtful. This was exactly why Lin Jian had called her. Longfu Industrial was a massive corporation with significant overseas operations. Furthermore, Chen Taohua had studied international law and was skilled at handling overseas lawsuits, so she was bound to have a solution.
"Got it. There’s another person as well. I’ll send his ID to you over WeChat so you can book his ticket together with mine.
"Sorry for the trouble, Taohua!"
After thanking her earnestly, Lin Jian hung up the phone just as Dongfang Shun handed over his ID card. Before Lin Jian even reached the airport, Chen Taohua called back.
"Lin Jian, did you say you wanted to go to the Golden Triangle just now?"
"Yes," Lin Jian replied.
"If you fly to Thailand, it’ll be a bit far. Can you fly directly to Bojiao Airport in Laos? It’s a straight-line distance of just five kilometers from the Golden Triangle!"
Lin Jian let out a deep breath of relief. "That’s perfect. Thank you, Taohua."
"Alright, go get your boarding passes at the airport. It’s a midnight flight tonight, but there aren’t any good seats left."
"It doesn’t matter. I’m racing against time right now."
"Okay, be careful." With that, Chen Taohua hung up the phone.
At midnight, the flight took off. After boarding, Lin Jian closed his eyes to rest, mentally reviewing the map markings imprinted in his memory.
The place where Zhang Weihong disappeared was located in the Primitive Forest slightly north of the Golden Triangle. There was no specific place name or exact location—only a small red circle. He had to find Zhang Weihong within the perimeter of that red circle. He needed to bring him back, dead or alive!
Meanwhile, Dongfang Shun was wide awake. With his massive physique came an equally massive appetite. He finished Lin Jian’s in-flight meal, drank several cups of cola, and asked for numerous small snacks. Yet, even after eating all of that, his stomach was still growling.
Even with his eyes closed, Lin Jian could hear a loud GRUMBLE coming from the man’s belly. Clearly, all that food wasn’t nearly enough to fill his stomach. However, Lin Jian pretended to be asleep and oblivious, though in reality, he was secretly observing Dongfang Shun with his Thought.
Dongfang Wan had openly stated to his face that her brother wasn’t very bright. So, perhaps Dongfang Shun’s brain truly was a bit lacking. But on second thought, if he lacked intelligence, how could he cultivate to become a Grandmaster?
A Grandmaster! When Xu Fengbin broke through to Grandmaster, he essentially touched the Dao, becoming incredibly formidable! Yet a fool from the Dongfang Family could become a Grandmaster? That meant either this fool wasn’t actually foolish, or the Dongfang Family possessed some unique ability. Otherwise, it made no sense.
An unknown amount of time later, Dongfang Shun finally seemed unable to bear his hunger any longer. He tugged on Lin Jian’s arm. "Hey, hey, Jian, wake up. Wake up."
