Chapter 28: Chairman of the Sanjiang Group Board of Directors
Chapter 28: Chairman of the Sanjiang Group Board of Directors
"Did you find the person who saved them?" the old man asked.
"Not yet," the staff member said awkwardly. "However, we did track down the car he was driving. It’s an official vehicle belonging to the Recovery Group, and that particular A6 is usually driven by their president, Ye Ziqiu.
"But Ye Ziqiu is a woman, and she doesn’t have a dedicated driver. So... we are still investigating."
"A Recovery Group car?" The old man nodded. He knew of the Recovery Group. They were investors who had come to Jiang City—a company owned by the overseas Chinese Ye Family.
"Keep digging," the old man said. "Two lives were on the line. If it weren’t for him, what happened to those two kids would have been unimaginable... truly unimaginable. The Old Zhang Family cannot leave such a life-saving debt unpaid."
RING RING RING!
The staff member’s phone rang, and he quickly stepped aside to answer it.
"Understood. Notify me immediately the moment you have any news," he said into the receiver.
A moment later, he returned to the old man’s side. "Our people have contacted Jiangnan. It’s Jiang from the Sanjiang Group."
"Ah, Jiang. What about him?"
The old man knew the boss of the Sanjiang Group, a man named Jiangnan. Jiangnan was on good terms with the old man’s daughter and visited their home once a year. He was very tactful and exceptionally perceptive.
"Jiangnan’s daughter knows Ye Ziqiu from the Recovery Group, so she went to ask around. We should have news very soon."
"Good. Follow up on this matter from start to finish," the old man instructed. "See if this young man needs any help. A young man who acts so courageously for a just cause—who even saved three lives at once—can serve as a role model for society."
"Yes, sir. I will oversee it personally," the staff member agreed immediately.
"Once you find him, conduct a quiet background check first. Then, have Wei Hong take his wife and kids to thank him in person."
"Yes, I understand."
Seeing that the old man had no further instructions, the staff member silently backed away.
Meanwhile.
In the Green City Villa, Ye Ziqiu was jolted awake by a phone call from Jiang Xue. She had been sleeping the entire afternoon, yet she still felt exhausted. No matter how much she slept, she couldn’t seem to wake up fully, which left her feeling miserable.
"Xue’Er, what time is it...?" Ye Ziqiu’s internal clock was completely out of whack.
Jiang Xue sounded exasperated. "Ziqiu, did you just go to sleep, or have you been sleeping this whole time? It’s already seven in the evening!"
"Seven? Then I’ll just keep sleeping..." Ye Ziqiu mumbled, about to hang up the phone.
"Ziqiu, don’t hang up! Don’t hang up! I have something to ask you," Jiang Xue pressed urgently. "Where is your car?"
"My car? It’s at home."
"Not the Ferrari, the A6," Jiang Xue clarified directly.
"The A6?"
Hearing the mention of the A6, Ye Ziqiu woke up instantly. The smell in that car had been rather overpowering. However, she was certain that aside from Lin Jian, Jiang Xue couldn’t possibly know she had peed in it.
"Xue’Er, what’s wrong? Why are you asking about that car?" Ye Ziqiu asked in return.
"Just answer me—where is the car?" Jiang Xue pressed anxiously.
"I... I sent it to get washed." Ye Ziqiu still held back the fact that Lin Jian was the one who had taken it for a wash.
"You sent it to get washed? Does that mean you don’t know who drove your car this afternoon?" Jiang Xue asked, confused.
"Who drove my car? I don’t know. I had... I sent it to get washed. What’s wrong, Xue’Er? Did something happen?" Ye Ziqiu’s heart was in her throat. Had the car been in an accident?
"It’s fine. If you don’t know, forget it. But where did you send it? What’s the name of the car wash?"
"That... I... I..." Ye Ziqiu didn’t know how to answer for a moment, simply because she wasn’t the one who had dropped it off. "I don’t know either. Someone else took it for me. Did something seriously go wrong?"
Ye Ziqiu was starting to get annoyed. Why was Jiang Xue interrogating her like this?
Jiang Xue was also getting frustrated. Why did it seem like Ziqiu was hiding something from her?
"Ziqiu, something happened with that car this afternoon. It’s not a traffic accident, but it’s something extremely important. Tell me, who helped you take the car to the car wash? You have to tell me the truth," Jiang Xue demanded, trying to intimidate her friend.
"It was Lin Jian. I asked him to drive it there to get it washed. What exactly happened?" Ye Ziqiu finally bit the bullet and revealed his name. After all, they were best friends. Since Jiang Xue was asking so persistently, it didn’t feel right to keep hiding it.
"Lin Jian? Which... wait, you mean that lowly security guard?" Jiang Xue suddenly realized that the infuriating security guard’s name was indeed Lin Jian.
"Yeah. I was too tired during the day, so I had Lin Jian take the car to get washed."
"Got it. Send me his phone number. I need to ask him a few things."
At this moment, Jiang Xue wasn’t alone. Sitting right beside her was her father, Jiangnan. He was quite tense, his ears pricked up as he listened closely to the conversation.
"Oh... why are you acting so mysterious?" Ye Ziqiu reluctantly hung up the phone. She found Lin Jian’s number and forwarded it to Jiang Xue. "This is the security guard’s number. Ask him whatever you want yourself!"
Jiang Xue genuinely did not want to speak to the security guard. He had nearly infuriated her to death that morning.
"This security guard is the one who took down the Four Great Vajras?" Jiangnan’s eyes lit up with sudden interest.
Jiang Xue had returned the Four Great Vajras to him earlier, belittling them for being utterly useless and incapable of defeating a mere security guard. He had wanted to ask for more details at the time, but Jiang Xue had hung up on him. Left with no choice, he had interrogated the Four Great Vajras instead, and they recounted how they had been completely dismantled by a lowly security guard the night before.
Upon hearing their account, Jiangnan had been absolutely floored! It was wildly unexpected that a mall security guard could be such an exceptional fighter. However, it had only been a passing moment of surprise and marvel. He hadn’t thought much more of it at the time.
But now, the benefactor the old chief was desperately searching for was very likely this exact same security guard. Taking a deep breath, Jiangnan used his own phone to dial the security guard’s number.
Jiangnan, forty-eight years old, was the Chairman of the Board for the Sanjiang Group. He was a real estate and resource tycoon in Jiang City and the wider Jiangsu and Zhejiang region, with his corporate empire valued at no less than a hundred billion. And that was only his legitimate, above-board business. The market value of his hidden, off-the-books enterprises was even greater. Therefore, Jiangnan could absolutely be considered the wealthiest man in the region, perhaps even the entirety of South China.
And the Green City Villa that Lin Jian had gone to buy earlier that day was, in fact, developed by the Sanjiang Group.
Jiangnan’s phone number was surprisingly ordinary—perhaps even less flashy than Lin Jian’s own number. When the call connected, Lin Jian’s voice came through, muffled around a mouthful of food. "Who is it?"
He had already arrived home and was currently chowing down on spare ribs. Lin Jing was sitting across from him, chatting about his work from the previous day.
"Hello, is this Mr. Lin Jian?" Jiangnan had an excellent memory. His daughter had only mentioned the name once on the phone, but he had committed it to memory. This was one of the hallmarks of a top-tier boss: never missing a single detail.
"That’s me. Who are you?" Lin Jian asked back.
"Hello. It’s like this: I am the Chairman of Green City Real Estate. This afternoon, you were the one who parked an Audi at our sales office and saved two children and a driver, correct?" Jiangnan didn’t mention his daughter or anything else. He only brought up the Green City Villa and merely introduced himself as the Chairman of the real estate company.
"Uh... yeah, something like that happened. But what do you mean by this? I was just there to look at houses. The damage to your sales office has nothing to do with me," Lin Jian quickly distanced himself from the situation. Was this guy looking for compensation?
"Haha, Mr. Lin, you must be joking. You acted courageously for a just cause and saved three lives right at the entrance of our Green City sales office. If it weren’t for your bravery at that moment, our Green City Real Estate would have been heavily implicated."
"That’s true. If people were crushed to death right at your doorstep, your company would probably bear some joint liability, though it wouldn’t be too severe."
"Let’s not talk about liability. The important thing is that a major tragedy was averted. I watched the security footage from the incident, and I believe an outstanding, heroic young man like you is exactly the kind of role model the younger generation should learn from. Therefore, Green City Real Estate has decided to gift you a house. If it’s convenient for you, could you make a trip to the sales office tomorrow?"
"Are you messing with me? Get lost!" The moment Lin Jian heard the man offering him a house, he furiously hung up the phone.
After all that talk, it turned out to be a damn scammer! If he agreed, the guy would inevitably say something like, "You need to pay personal income tax first, then a notary fee, and then property tax." By the time he wired a massive sum of money, the scammer would vanish into thin air. That kind of trick might work on others, but trying to scam Lin Jian? In his dreams!
On the other end of the line, Jiangnan was completely stunned.
His daughter, Jiang Xue, on the other hand, burst into laughter. "Did you hear that? Did you hear that? That little security guard is a complete bastard! He’s a pervert and has zero class, yet you wanted to give him a house? Are you running a fever?"
"What do you know?" Jiangnan glared at his daughter, annoyed.
He wasn’t just giving Lin Jian a house; he was doing this to please the old chief and to earn himself a chance to shine in the old chief’s eyes.
