Chapter 32: Playing the Hero Again
Chapter 32: Playing the Hero Again
Lin Jian blocked the stall owner’s path, grinning as he asked to take another look at the snuff bottle.
The stall owner didn’t get angry. Instead, he shook his head. "Sorry, kid, but that snuff bottle has long been reserved. Maybe next time."
With that, he tried to step around Lin Jian and leave.
But Lin Jian had no intention of letting him go. He continued to block his way. "Come on, boss, just give me a price. How about I pay top dollar?"
"Get lost!"
The stall owner was growing anxious. If he didn’t leave now, he might get caught in the crossfire. He raised his hand and gave Lin Jian a forceful shove.
As he pushed, Lin Jian immediately felt the immense strength behind the movement. Despite his portly figure, the man was incredibly strong—much stronger than an ordinary person.
Dropping his playful demeanor, Lin Jian quickly scanned the man with his Thought. The results made him break into a cold sweat. The man was actually carrying two guns! One was holstered under his armpit, and the other was strapped securely to his calf. Both were tied tight.
If Lin Jian hadn’t used his Thought, things could have gone horribly wrong.
Feigning a loss of balance from the shove, Lin Jian stumbled back a few steps. The stall owner shot him a cold glare and was about to continue walking when Lin Jian suddenly lunged at him.
The stall owner likely never expected this bastard to be as clingy as a leech, let alone initiate an attack. As he instinctively stepped back, Lin Jian had already grabbed one of his arms. With a swift, forceful upward thrust followed by a sharp downward yank, a soft CRACK echoed.
It was the sound of a shoulder dislocating.
In that split second, catching the stall owner off guard, Lin Jian effortlessly popped his shoulder out of its socket!
The stall owner let out a muffled grunt, suppressing a scream, and rapidly reached for his armpit with his good hand.
But Lin Jian was faster. Now that he had made his move, he had to subdue the man in one fell swoop. He absolutely could not give him a chance to draw his weapon. Just as the fat stall owner’s hand slipped under his arm, Lin Jian preemptively locked onto his arm. Pressing down with all his might, Lin Jian simultaneously brought his knee smashing into the man’s face!
"AARGH!"
The fat stall owner finally let out a miserable shriek. The strike was brutal, shattering his nasal bone and sending blood spurting into the air.
Sticking to him like glue, Lin Jian maintained his grip. As the fat stall owner fell backward, Lin Jian yanked his right arm forward! Using the opposing momentum, another CRACK rang out. The man’s second shoulder was also dislocated!
Only then did Lin Jian finally breathe a sigh of relief. Both of his opponent’s arms were now completely immobilized.
Not far away at the storefront, suspects were being escorted out while others stood guard outside. Although the commotion had caught the attention of the guards, they didn’t come over; catching the tomb raiders was their top priority.
However, Lin Jian shouted in their direction, "Officers, there’s another one here! He’s an accomplice from inside, and he has a gun! Come quick!"
His roar echoed through the street, catching the attention of the police officers who had just exited the storefront, along with Miss Shen. Six or seven people immediately bolted toward him. Every single one of them had their guns drawn. After all, this gang of tomb raiders were ruthless thugs.
"Don’t move!"
Miss Shen and several plainclothes officers aimed their weapons at Lin Jian and the fat stall owner, ordering them to freeze.
Lin Jian raised his hands. "I subdued him! He has two guns—one under his armpit and one on his calf. But both of his shoulders are dislocated, so he can’t move!"
Hearing this, two burly officers quickly approached and patted the fat stall owner down, swiftly retrieving the two firearms.
The moment the guns were pulled out, the blood drained from everyone’s faces. This man was armed with two guns, yet he had been subdued by this young man?
"Don’t you move either. What’s your name? Where are you from? What are you doing here?" Miss Shen motioned for Lin Jian to stay put.
Because it was dark, visibility was poor, and the others hadn’t lowered their guard. Who knew what Lin Jian’s true motives were?
Lin Jian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "I was just browsing the Ghost Market! When I was looking at his stall, I noticed a gun strapped to his leg. Then, when gunshots rang out from that storefront, he packed up his stuff and tried to run. I figured he wasn’t a good guy, so I took him down!
"My name is Lin Jian. I live in the Agricultural Bank District and work as a security guard for the Recovery Group. Oh, here’s my ID card!" He voluntarily handed his ID over as he spoke.
"Your name is Lin Jian, and you live in the Agricultural Bank District?" Miss Shen suddenly let out a gasp of surprise. Then she asked, "Are you from the sports academy’s martial arts team?"
"Huh? How did you know?"
This time, it was Lin Jian’s turn to be confused. He had felt that this long-legged woman looked familiar, but he couldn’t quite place where he had seen her before. And now, she actually knew who he was?
The long-legged woman ignored his question. Snorting coldly, she ordered, "Cuff him too and take him back!"
"Yes, Ma’am!"
Clearly, she held a decent rank. Two or three young officers immediately rushed over to pin Lin Jian down.
At that moment, something seemed to click in Lin Jian’s mind. He jerked his head up. "I remember now! You’re Shen Jianren’s second sister! You... you’re abusing your power for personal revenge!"
Lin Jian groaned inwardly as he finally recalled who this woman was. She was the second sister of Shen Jun from the sports academy. Lin Jian had beaten up Shen Jun twice in the past, and during one of those times, her sister had caught them in the act. She had actually tried to fight Lin Jian right then and there, but Shen Jun had pulled her away.
Even though Lin Jian called him "Shen Jianren" as a joke, Shen Jun was still a respectable guy. When he lost a fight, he didn’t call for backup or go to the cops, taking his defeats like a man. More importantly, the two had actually become friends over the past couple of years. They often smoked together in the woods and occasionally hung out to play pool.
"Take him away!"
Miss Shen completely ignored him, waving her hand to have both Lin Jian and the fat stall owner hauled off.
Lin Jian didn’t struggle. They could cuff him all they wanted, but he couldn’t run, let alone assault a police officer. He just had to accept his bad luck. Of course, it wasn’t like she could do anything terrible to him. She probably just wanted to vent some frustration on behalf of her brother. She wouldn’t actually cross any lines.
Soon, he was shoved into a police cruiser, and the box in his hands was confiscated.
Before dawn, he was taken back to the police station for an immediate interrogation and statement. Naturally, everything he said had to be investigated and verified. After his statement was recorded, his handcuffs were removed, and he was led into a lounge with a bed.
After all, he had caught a tomb raider—a massive achievement. No one was actually going to mistreat him.
An hour later, in a nearby office, Shen Ke slammed her hands on a desk, puffing her cheeks in anger. "I’m so mad! This is infuriating!"
Two middle-aged men were in the room with her, both shaking their heads with wry smiles.
"I tracked them for two years! Two whole years! And in the end, the main culprit gets taken down by that punk! Argh, it’s completely absurd!"
Shen Ke was on the verge of pulling her hair out. She had followed this case for two years, yet the primary suspect hadn’t been apprehended by her, but by some street-level thug. To make matters worse, this was the exact same thug who had once beaten up her younger brother right in front of her. She was livid.
"Shen," one of the men said gently, "regardless of who caught him, Old Cat has finally been brought to justice. This is a tremendous victory. However, you still need to go and apologize to that security guard, Lin Jian. He helped us crack a major case, and we have to ensure he receives the proper reward. You can’t let your personal feelings dictate your actions anymore."
"Hmph. I’ve met that kid before. He’s ruthless in a fight. My brother got beaten up by him twice." Shen Ke paused, suddenly letting out a long sigh. "Fine. He did do us a massive favor. I’ll go apologize to him!"
