Chapter 43: This Is Not Over

The young man was like a dead pig. He didn’t even wake up when Lin Jian dragged him out by his hair. However, he still had Qi. He just couldn’t take a beating. A knockout from a heavy blow like this usually wore off in five to fifteen minutes.

Lin Jian dragged the young man to the center of the courtyard, then looked at Huang Mao. "Call Long."

"Uh... okay."

Huang Mao had a broken arm, and his clothes were already soaked in cold sweat from the pain. Fearing another beating from Lin Jian, he hurriedly used his uninjured hand to dial Long’s number. As soon as the call connected, Long spoke first. "Is he there?"

"Long, I..." Huang Mao was at a loss for words.

At this moment, Lin Jian waved at Huang Mao, gesturing to hand over the phone. Huang Mao quickly got up, ran to Lin Jian’s side, and handed it over.

Lin Jian glanced at the time. "Let my mother go home right now. For every minute you delay, I’ll pull out one of Young Master Chen’s teeth. When he runs out of teeth, I’ll start pulling his fingernails!"

Back at the company, Long was dumbfounded! This wasn’t how it was supposed to play out!

Their plan was for Lin Jian to arrive at the reservoir’s floodgate, realize Lin Jing wasn’t there, and hesitate out of fear for her safety. Since his mother wasn’t at the reservoir, if he dared to touch their men there, they would retaliate against his mother at the company! With his mother as a hostage, Lin Jian would have to do whatever they demanded!

Yet, what Long got instead was a threat to pull out Young Master Chen’s teeth?

Long felt a phantom ache in his own teeth. He was a nobody in front of Young Master Chen, holding no status whatsoever. How massive was the Chen Family’s corporation? Ruyi Business Consulting was merely a subsidiary of a subsidiary. And to put it bluntly, he, Long, was just a debt collector for them.

Lin Jian had injured some of the company’s men yesterday and taken a hundred thousand yuan from their safe. Word of this had reached Young Master Chen, who was visiting Jiang City for fun. Young Master Chen had just returned from graduating college and held an empty title at the main corporation, doing virtually no real work. Recently, he had started dating a girl from Jiang City, so he loitered around the area, fooling around with small-timers like them every night.

When Young Master Chen heard that someone actually dared to take a hundred thousand yuan from their company, he felt like he was listening to a fairy tale! Thus, this kidnapping incident was born.

According to Long’s own principles, debts shouldn’t involve family; kidnapping the man’s mother crossed a line. But Young Master Chen wanted some excitement, which led to this whole mess!

And now, it seemed Young Master Chen had fallen right into Lin Jian’s hands. Lin Jian just wouldn’t play by the rules!

"Liu, what do we do?" Long asked.

Long wasn’t alone; there was also a man known as Liu. In his early years, Liu had been a lackey for Young Master Chen’s father, but he had since washed his hands of the underworld and become a successful businessman.

"As long as Young Master Chen doesn’t get hurt, just release her," Liu waved his hand dismissively.

Long hurriedly went to another room where Lin Jing was sitting. She hadn’t been mistreated at all; the room was even supplied with tea and fruit. After all, this was a shady business, and they couldn’t afford to be charged with kidnapping. Officially, they had simply ’invited’ Lin Jing over to discuss Lin Jian’s hundred-thousand-yuan debt!

Lin Jing had followed them willingly. But once she arrived, they confiscated her phone and refused to let her leave!

Now, Long opened the door. "Ms. Lin, I’ll have someone escort you home right now. But on the way, could you give Lin Jian a call to let him know? Just tell him you’re heading back!"

Lin Jing didn’t say a word. She stood up, snatched her bag back, and hurried downstairs! Once downstairs, a driver offered to take her, but she ignored him and hailed a taxi instead. Upon getting into the cab, Lin Jing immediately turned on her phone and called Lin Jian!

Meanwhile, Lin Jian forcibly used his fingers to pry out one of Young Master Chen’s molars. Young Master Chen, who had just woken up, instantly fainted again!

Lin Jian’s phone rang. It was Lin Jing’s number! He quickly answered. "Mom!"

"Lin Jian, where are you? I’m fine now. I’m in a taxi heading home!"

Lin Jian thought for a moment. "Don’t go home yet. Find a hotel and book a room for the night! I’ll come meet you there in a bit."

Lin Jing hesitated briefly before replying, "Okay!"

She knew Lin Jian had gotten into trouble outside, but she didn’t know the specifics. And it certainly couldn’t be explained over the phone. Lin Jing had always been a calm and independent woman. She didn’t ask any questions, choosing to wait for Lin Jian to return and explain it to her himself.

A short while later, she entered a star-rated hotel. After a moment of thought, she booked two rooms. The second one was for Lin Jian, right next to hers.

Back at the reservoir, Lin Jian had found a bottle of water from somewhere and poured it entirely over Young Master Chen’s face!

Startled by the cold water, Young Master Chen woke up immediately! As soon as he opened his eyes, he burst into loud wails. When had he ever suffered such torment? It was simply killing him!

"Shut up!" Lin Jian roared. "If you dare cry again, I’ll pull out every damn tooth in your mouth!"

SHUDDER.

Young Master Chen snapped his mouth shut instantly, though his entire body was trembling uncontrollably. He was truly terrified. Although he had heard tales from the elders about the bravery and hot-blooded exploits of his father and uncles in their youth, those were just stories, and none of it had ever happened to him. Other people’s stories always sounded heroic and inspiring, but when it actually happened to you, it was utterly horrifying.

Seeing Young Master Chen shut up, Lin Jian nodded in satisfaction. He extended his hand and said, "Young Master Chen, how about we be friends?"

Young Master Chen was completely bewildered. The guy had just beaten the hell out of him and pried out his tooth, and now he wanted to be friends? What kind of logic was this? However, since Lin Jian had already extended his hand, he didn’t dare refuse. He timidly reached out and shook Lin Jian’s hand!

"See? We’re good friends now, right?" Lin Jian pulled out a pack of cigarettes and plopped down next to Young Master Chen. He lit two and handed one over. "Actually, there’s no misunderstanding between friends that can’t be resolved.

"At the end of the day, you guys were in the wrong first today. Whether it’s Long or Huang Mao, they’re both in the underworld. And the biggest taboo in the underworld is going after someone’s family!

"So I got a little angry today. You can understand that, right?"

Young Master Chen took a drag of the cigarette and thought about it carefully. If his mother had suddenly been kidnapped by someone, he would definitely go crazy too. Suddenly, he sort of understood why he had gotten beaten up!

Lin Jian took a deep drag of his cigarette. "I’m a man of my word. I say what I mean.

"You took a loss today, so you’re probably not convinced and will want revenge. If you want revenge, come straight at me. Whether it’s a fight or a deathmatch, I’ll play along to the very end!

"But if you ever dare threaten me with my family again..." Lin Jian gave him a cold glare, patted his shoulder, and whispered into his ear, "I’ll kill your entire family."

Young Master Chen’s entire body tensed up as a chilling dread shot up from the soles of his feet. Instinctively, he felt that Lin Jian was telling the truth. This man truly dared to wipe out his entire family!

Lin Jian stood up. "That’s it for today. The grudge is settled. You’re welcome to come look for trouble tomorrow.

"Oh, right. Huang Mao, go back and tell Long that things between me and Young Master Chen end here. But he still owes me a leg. I have to break one of his legs. Let’s say, within three days."

Huang Mao’s face turned green. He didn’t dare pass on that message! If he did, he would definitely catch a brutal beating! However, he couldn’t refuse Lin Jian either, so he could only nod with a bitter expression.

At that moment, Lin Jian smiled, then turned and quickly disappeared into the darkness.
