Chapter 49: 3 Women’s Voices

He Yuehua wasn’t tall. Even in high heels, she appeared to be just over 1.6 meters. Her son, that Young Master Yang, must have taken after her, as he wasn’t tall either. However, despite her short stature, He Yuehua exuded a commanding presence, especially with her natural phoenix eyes.

What were phoenix eyes? They were eyes with outer corners slanting upwards. People born with this feature were inherently strong-willed and often quite stubborn.

After walking out, He Yuehua stepped up to the stage with a smile. "Thank you all for attending this charity gala. I believe that with you, with them, we have a future!"

As soon as she finished speaking, a group of children from a mountain village appeared on the large screen behind her. The clear, resonant sound of the children reading aloud carried through the screen and into everyone’s ears. The audience watched the impoverished children on the screen.

"Today’s gala consists of six performances," He Yuehua continued. "We’ve invited six special guests from the film and television industry. After their respective performances, each guest will act as a temporary host to present tonight’s auction items.

"Right now is free time. The gala will officially begin at eight o’clock!"

There was an hour for mingling. Since many guests hadn’t eaten, the hotel prepared a variety of Western dishes, including steak, roast meat, and pizza, along with delicacies like bird’s nest and shark fin soup. Waiters continuously brought out top-tier culinary delights.

The guests resumed chatting in small groups, and a crowd quickly gathered around He Yuehua.

Meanwhile, Lin Jian had already devoured three steaks, two large cuts of roast meat, and four bowls of shark fin soup. Since everyone else was holding a glass of red wine and focusing only on conversation, he simply shoved the untouched food into his mouth.

Ye Ziqiu had naturally been keeping an eye on Lin Jian. Seeing his table manners, she felt an incoming headache and didn’t dare approach him. He was just too embarrassing.

On second thought, she couldn’t help but smile wryly. She wondered, "Is this his first time attending such an event? It must be his first time having shark fin soup too. Well, let him drink to his heart’s content. It’s free anyway!"

Instead of stopping Lin Jian, she ran into an acquaintance and started chatting. A moment later, she went to the restroom to touch up her makeup.

However, right after she left for the restroom, a commotion broke out in the venue. Since everyone was busy chatting, few paid attention to the disturbance in the corner.

But a few dozen seconds later, the commotion hadn’t stopped. Suddenly, someone yelled, "Get lost!"

With that shout, a security guard in uniform was sent flying through the air, crashing squarely onto a long buffet table. Then, a second guard was thrown out, tumbling into the crowd.

CRASH!

In an instant, all eyes darted toward the scene.

Someone was actually fighting at an event like this? Who had that kind of nerve? Everyone looked over in curiosity, only to see a young man in a suit straightening his clothes while two security guards lay dazed on the floor.

STOMP STOMP STOMP!

Just then, over a dozen more security guards rushed in from outside. These guards were all dressed in identical black suits and wore earpieces, clearly a level higher than the uniformed ones. The moment they appeared, they surrounded the young man.

"Hmph, you snuck in for a free meal, didn’t you? And you even dare to hit people? Fine, just great!"

At that moment, He Yuehua’s son, Yang Xuanguang, walked over with a cold expression. As half a host for today’s banquet, it was completely normal for him to step forward and handle the situation.

"What? Snuck in for a free meal?"

"No way."

"Young people these days, really..."

Many guests were left speechless. How could anyone dare to crash this kind of banquet for food? Did he not consider who organized it or who was attending? To actually sneak in here—he must have a death wish.

"Yang, aren’t you being a bit boring?" Lin Jian frowned. After scanning the area with his Thought, he found that Ye Ziqiu had actually run off to the restroom and seemed to be relieving herself...

Seeing this, he felt exasperated. Young Master Yang had probably been waiting for this exact moment. Even if Ye Ziqiu hadn’t gone to the restroom, Yang Xuanguang likely would have found a way to make her leave for a bit. This was clearly a setup orchestrated by him.

"Hmph, do I know you? What’s your name?" Yang Xuanguang said bluntly. "Where is Director Wang? Did the committee invite this person?"

A bald, middle-aged man wiped the sweat from his forehead and asked, "Sir, who might you be?"

"My name is Lin Jian. I came with someone else," Lin Jian replied with a straight face.

"Then may I ask what line of work you are in, Mr. Lin?" Yang Xuanguang suddenly interjected.

"Deputy Supervisor of the Security Department at Recovery Group!"

"Uh..."

"A security guard..."

"Is this a joke?"

"A security guard? Even if he’s a deputy supervisor, he’s still just a security guard!"

Many of the guests grew indignant. What was their status? Their social standing? How could they attend a charity gala alongside a lowly security guard? It was an insult to their dignity!

"What’s going on? How can just anyone attend this kind of banquet?"

"Exactly, letting all sorts of people in, honestly..."

Several snobby socialites voiced their discontent. And it wasn’t just them; everyone expressed their dissatisfaction. A security guard sneaking in all dressed up like a gentleman was nothing short of a massive mockery!

"Sir, if you don’t have an invitation, please cooperate with security and step outside to verify your identity. This is for the safety of our guests," Director Wang, the bald man, had no choice but to step forward. The charity had a board of directors, so this matter fell squarely under his jurisdiction.

Lin Jian chuckled. "Fine, I’m already full anyway. And you over there, Su Zhiwei, stop fucking laughing to yourself. You dumbass, you guys waited until I was stuffed to jump out!"

To everyone’s shock, Lin Jian arrogantly flipped the middle finger at Su Zhiwei, who had been secretly gloating in the crowd.

GASP!

Everyone followed Lin Jian’s gesture and turned to look at Su Zhiwei.

Su Zhiwei was dumbfounded. He was just an innocent bystander enjoying the show, alright? He cursed Lin Jian wildly in his mind, "This stinking security guard! This is outrageous! I’m so pissed!"

Outwardly, however, Su Zhiwei was forced to frown and say, "Are you sick in the head? Do I even know you? Why haven’t you dragged him out yet?"

"Sir, please step outside with us!"

The dozen or so security guards were just about to forcefully haul Lin Jian out. Right at that moment, three crisp voices rang out simultaneously.

"Stop!"

"Hold on!"

"Wait a minute!"

The three voices came from three different directions, and they belonged to three different women! Upon hearing the shouts, everyone turned in astonishment to look at the speakers.

The first one hurriedly walking toward Lin Jian was Ye Ziqiu. As soon as she came out of the restroom, she noticed the bustling scene in the venue. Dozens of people were surrounding a single person, watching as if it were some sort of circus act.

Then, she realized the person trapped in the middle was actually Lin Jian, and these security guards were about to drag him out! In her panic, she yelled, "Stop!" and jogged over.

As for the other two women who shouted "Hold on!" and "Wait a minute!"—she had no idea who they were!
