Chapter 59: Mind Control

Upstairs, Ye Ziqiu had already fallen asleep. Lin Jian sat on the living room sofa, toying with an iron nut.

He had picked it up at the repair shop. There had been an extra one at the time, so he had casually pocketed it. The reason he took it out now was because of an interesting phenomenon he had discovered earlier when he used it to strike the light bulb!

He found that he could use his Thought to control the accuracy of the thrown nut. He could even change its trajectory in mid-air. For example, if he threw it off target, he could use his Thought to correct its flight path!

And this was Thought manipulation!

At the time, a possibility had immediately crossed his mind. However, he hadn’t had the time to test it on the way back. Now, in the dead of night, after confirming with his Thought that Ye Ziqiu was fast asleep, he finally took out the iron nut.

After toying with it for a moment, he focused his attention and opened his palm. The iron nut rested squarely in the center of his hand. Slowly, he began to lower and pull back his open palm!

At that moment, a miracle occurred.

Even though his hand had completely moved away from the iron nut, it remained suspended in mid-air! Yes, the iron nut was floating right before his eyes out of thin air.

Lin Jian’s heart leaped into his throat! He understood now—this was Mind Control!

Using his Thought to manipulate objects and control their static or dynamic states!

Lin Jian never imagined that his god-like Thought would have such an incredible function. Did this mean that if he carried a pack of needles in his pocket, he could kill people with embroidery needles just like that old freak Dongfang Bubai?

"No, no. Why use embroidery needles? If I’m going to do this, I should use nails, or the Xiaoli Flying Knife!" Lin Jian muttered to himself. "Right! Let me see if I can manipulate larger objects!"

Speaking, he quickly walked into the dining room and pulled a fruit knife from the knife block. Then, he held his breath, calmed his mind, and concentrated his Thought.

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ.

A moment later, the fruit knife hovered before his eyes. Although it was somewhat strenuous and sweat had begun to bead on his forehead, the fruit knife was genuinely levitating!

"Go," he commanded.

With a shift in his Thought, the fruit knife flew out of the dining room with a SWISH, leaving a streak of light in its wake. Lin Jian hurriedly ran after it!

His eyes locked onto the fruit knife flying through the living room. His Thought could actually manipulate its flight path freely. It could swoop high or low, dart left or right...

Lin Jian controlled it for nearly three full minutes before his expression turned sluggish and a headache set in. He knew he had overexerted his brain—meaning he had overused his Thought and needed to rest.

However, he was so thrilled right now that he felt completely awake. In fact, ever since the Dao Tree appeared in his head, he had only taken one nap yesterday at noon. Over the span of three or four days, he had slept for merely two hours. For the rest of the time, he hadn’t felt sleepy at all.

He knew he was definitely different now, perhaps even mutated.

"Wait, wait, wait..."

Just then, a flash of inspiration crossed Lin Jian’s mind. He muttered to himself, "Right now, I can control a fruit knife to fly freely. My Thought can bear its weight.

"So, if my Thought continues to grow stronger, will there come a day when I can use it to manipulate my own body to fly through the air?

"I can perform Mind Control, and my own body is also an object. If my Thought can manipulate an object weighing over a hundred pounds, then I should be able to lift off the ground and fly, right?"

As Lin Jian reached this conclusion, he grew so excited that he began panting heavily. If one day he could truly fly, wouldn’t he be the only Superman in the world?

"By then, I’ll be able to call the shots and have the world at my fingertips, won’t I?"

Lin Jian was beyond thrilled. The future was looking incredibly bright.

"But I have to let the Dao Fruit mature first. If it doesn’t, I’ll be stuck at my current level."

Thinking of this, he immediately placed the ginseng box on the living room coffee table. Then, he haphazardly pulled the ginseng out of it. Although this thing was worth a bit of money, it probably wasn’t as valuable as the box itself, not to mention the Square Jade hidden in the box’s secret compartment.

Using the fruit knife, he found the seam where the box connected and carefully pried off the base bit by bit. Once the base was removed, he gently pulled out an inner partition, revealing a Square Jade seamlessly embedded within the bottom of the box.

It was a piece of emerald-green Square Jade. The side facing him bore a dragon totem, carved so vividly that it seemed to come alive. He carefully flipped it over and saw two words engraved on the other side: Spirit Jade.

"Hmm, it’s full of Spiritual Qi. I’ll absorb it first!"

He didn’t know what "Spirit Jade" meant, but whether it was the box or the Square Jade, they not only gave off an ancient vibe but also seeped with traces of Spiritual Energy! Truthfully, he didn’t exactly know what this aura was either. As long as it was an aura the Dao Tree liked, he just collectively called it Spiritual Qi.

The moment the Square Jade touched his hand, he didn’t even need to do anything. The Dao Tree flashed with light, and the Spiritual Qi on both the Square Jade and the box was instantly sucked dry!

Lin Jian was quite nervous, hoping the Dao Tree would undergo some changes. However, after observing it for a long time, he only noticed that the tree seemed a bit greener. The ninety-nine fruits on it remained exactly the same, showing no signs of maturing.

"It looks like this still isn’t enough. I need to find more items possessing Spiritual Qi." Lin Jian rubbed his forehead, constantly toying with the Square Jade in his hand. "Well, this piece of jade should be Top-Grade Jade. Even if I don’t know much about jade, it looks extremely high-end."

With this thought, Lin Jian immediately took off the bullet pendant hanging around his neck. It wasn’t anything special; it was just a cheap accessory he had bought for a dozen bucks at a supermarket near his sports school. However, the string tying the bullet pendant was a braided green cord, perfectly suited to thread this piece of jade.

A moment later, he hung the Square Jade around his neck. Its size was just right, and it suited him perfectly!

"Oh? It’s even slightly cool. This jade can nourish a person’s body."

Lin Jian was pleasantly surprised and decided against selling the jade. It was just two million, right? If he lost out on it, so be it. He would just find another way to earn the money back later. Top-tier jade like this was incredibly rare. He worried that if he sold it now, he might never come across such a fine piece again.

Meanwhile, at the First Hospital in Modu.

Master Si had also been hospitalized because his nose required a minor surgery. However, having operated in Modu for many years, Master Si had built up considerable connections and a strong network. Therefore, he stayed in a private room equipped with an en-suite bathroom, as well as an air conditioner and a refrigerator.

Yet, at this very moment, Master Si—an injured patient who should have been resting—was standing before a young man like a reprimanded schoolboy.

The young man wore a mandarin-collared Zhongshan suit. Beside him stood a man and a woman. The woman looked to be around eighteen or nineteen years old, heavily made-up, and was using a small finger knife to trim her nails. The man appeared to be in his twenties, with a buzz cut, dark skin, and a stud earring in one ear. He wore a leather jacket.

It was summer. Even though it was nighttime, there was absolutely no need to wear a leather jacket, yet this young man was wearing one anyway. Much like the young woman, his style of dress was bizarre and out of place.

The man in the Zhongshan suit remained silent the entire time, while Master Si recounted the events that had transpired that night.

"I understand. Farewell," the man in the Zhongshan suit said, rising to his feet after Master Si finished his account. Uttering a traditional underworld parting phrase, he strode out of the room.

The man and woman immediately followed suit!

Outside the hospital ward waited another man, built like an iron tower, likely standing over two meters tall. He was as brawny as a black bear, causing the floor to vibrate and hum with every step he took.

The group of four quickly headed downstairs and piled into a car. The Giant drove, the jacket-wearing man took the passenger seat, and the woman sat next to the man in the Zhongshan suit in the back.

"Heizi, find an opportunity to take out that security guard first. In a few days, throw the woman into the river. That’s all," the man in the Zhongshan suit ordered.

"Understood, Boss. Yanzi and I will head over tomorrow!" the jacket-wearing man in the passenger seat nodded in response.
