Chapter 68: Borrowing the Little Security Guard
Chapter 68: Borrowing the Little Security Guard
In truth, Lin Jian never intended to work at Fuxing for long. Therefore, whether it was the second-in-command or the third-in-command, he would tell them off when necessary. He absolutely would not coddle them.
He stayed here with the mindset that the worst-case scenario was just resigning, so he had zero scruples.
The security guards changed shifts, and everyone returned to their posts. Lin Jian took Xu Xiaohui to a blind spot in the surveillance cameras to smoke.
"That night, it was indeed the three of us on shift, right here in the underground parking lot. The way the owner parked was bizarre—he parked right in the camera’s blind spot where we couldn’t see a thing.
"Then, the next day, the owner went to the security department and claimed the bag in his car was missing. He said it had his ID, bank cards, and over three thousand yuan in cash.
"I’ve always suspected Zhang Qiang set this up on purpose. He found an acquaintance to deliberately extort us."
"Did you guys pay for it?" Lin Jian frowned.
"How could we not?" Xu Xiaohui said angrily. "The three of us paid a thousand each. Otherwise, they were going to call the police. Zhang Qiang said if the police got involved, the three of us would probably be fired, so we didn’t let them.
"Tan Jian, Chuangzi, and I thought the matter was over. A thousand is a thousand, whatever. But that bastard still wants to deduct our bonuses."
Fuxing’s bonuses were tied to attendance and personal performance, and the amount wasn’t low. Every month, the security supervisor received a thousand yuan, while the others got anywhere from five to eight hundred. So to Xu Xiaohui and the others, this was no small sum.
"Do you have the car owner’s phone number?" Lin Jian asked.
"No. We only realized it after we paid. We didn’t even make him write a receipt!" Xu Xiaohui said regretfully.
Lin Jian patted him on the shoulder. This was the result of a lack of street smarts. Anyone who mingled in society wouldn’t be so easily extorted out of three thousand yuan.
"Let it go. Consider it paying to avoid further trouble." Lin Jian smiled. "Once bitten, twice shy. You’ll have experience the next time you encounter something like this."
"I guess that’s all we can do. But now Zhang Qiang is making a fuss out of it again today," Xu Xiaohui said with a bitter smile.
Lin Jian chuckled. After a moment of thought, he asked, "Are you guys just going to keep muddling along at Fuxing like this?"
"The three of us don’t have much education," Xu Xiaohui sighed. "Although we served in the military for a few years, we weren’t officers. When we were discharged, we weren’t assigned jobs, so we had to find our own way.
"And other than goose-stepping and throwing a few combat punches, what else can we do?"
"You can’t do this for the rest of your lives, can you?" Lin Jian said. "Being a security guard is a young man’s game. Once you pass thirty, no one will want you."
"Aren’t you the same as us?" Xu Xiaohui looked at Lin Jian. "A security supervisor is still a security guard. Even if you climb higher, the most you’ll be is a supervisor." His eyes lit up. Lin Jian’s words were clearly dropping a hint, or perhaps he had another motive. "So, do you have some kind of connection?"
"I actually do have an idea in mind!" Lin Jian nodded. "I know full well that my supervisor role is still just a security guard position, so I’ve been thinking about doing something else lately."
"You’re the boss. Whatever you say we do, us three brothers will do without a word of complaint. I guarantee we won’t drop the ball," Xu Xiaohui said, patting his chest.
"Give me some time to think it through. I have some idle funds on hand, but I don’t know what to do with them yet. I’ll look into it over the next few days. If you guys are willing to work with me, then follow me and we’ll strike out on our own. If not, you can keep being security guards here."
"Alright, when the time comes, just tell us what to do and we’ll follow. To be honest, we hit it off with you. Working together, we don’t care if it’s a bit tough or tiring, because we feel good doing it."
Lin Jian laughed. "Same here. I just find the three of you pleasing to the eye, haha!"
The two of them laughed together.
After goofing off in the underground parking lot with Xu Xiaohui and the others all morning, Lin Jian arrived at the hotel’s Chinese restaurant at noon.
Naturally, the security guards normally wouldn’t come here to eat, because it was way too expensive. Lin Jian hadn’t planned on coming either, but he couldn’t withstand the constant urging from the Jiangnan Little Wild Cat, Jiang Xue. Jiang Xue had come here for a meal and persistently insisted that Lin Jian join them!
How should it be put? Lin Jian was technically considered a mutual comrade-in-arms to her and Ye Ziqiu, so their relationship was at least closer than with others. Furthermore, Lin Jian and Ye Ziqiu’s relationship was ambiguous. As a best friend, although she disapproved, she had a favor to ask of Lin Jian that afternoon. That was why she wanted to treat him to a meal.
Jiang Xue had booked a private room. When Lin Jian pushed the door open and entered, Ye Ziqiu was already there.
At the company, Ye Ziqiu always wore formal business attire—the standard office lady outfit for professional women. A white blouse and a black skirt wrapped her figure perfectly, accentuating her curves. One glance at her would absolutely make anyone want to look a second time.
As for the Little Wild Cat, Jiang Xue, she was dressed just like last time: a crop top and jeans. Her slender waist was incredibly thin, without an ounce of fat on her flat stomach.
After Lin Jian walked in, his eyes immediately darted over the two of them!
Ye Ziqiu put on a stern face.
The Little Wild Cat, however, deliberately puffed out her chest and smirked. "Bleed, hurry up and get a nosebleed..."
Lin Jian curled his lips. "You two are wearing too much today. I can’t bleed!"
"Tch, pervert. If I took it off, would you even dare to look?" the Little Wild Cat mocked.
Lin Jian’s eyes lit up. "What’s there to be afraid of? Why don’t I help you take it off?"
"Lin Jian, this is the company," Ye Ziqiu scolded angrily. "Watch yourself."
How did these two start driving the conversation straight into the gutter?
Lin Jian propped both hands on the table and looked at Ye Ziqiu earnestly. "President Ye, even when you’re angry, you look so beautiful..."
"Pfft—"
The Little Wild Cat nearly spat blood. This bastard little security guard really knew how to flirt. The first rule of flirting: have thick skin and be bold. This guy checked both boxes perfectly.
Sure enough, Ye Ziqiu was both angry and embarrassed. Her face flushed red, and for a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
"If you keep talking nonsense, I’m going upstairs," Ye Ziqiu said anxiously.
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop. But what’s the matter that you had to treat me to a meal? I’m on a twenty-four-hour shift today," Lin Jian said, looking at the Little Wild Cat.
Jiang Xue didn’t look at Lin Jian. Instead, she grabbed Ye Ziqiu’s arm and pleaded, "Ziqiu, Ziqiu, let me borrow Lin Jian for the afternoon. Just for one afternoon, please?"
"What do you need him for?" Ye Ziqiu asked in surprise.
"Hey, hold on. I’m a person, not an object. I’m strictly not for loan," Lin Jian protested from the side.
However, Jiang Xue ignored him completely. She continued clinging to Ye Ziqiu’s arm and said, "I have two things this afternoon. First, my dad is going to pick out some antiques to give as gifts. I told him I knew an expert, and he actually didn’t believe me! So I have to slap his face with the truth.
"Lin Jian managed to unearth a jade pendant worth fifty million, as well as a ginseng box, an emperor’s lidded teacup, and so on. He definitely has a few tricks up his sleeve, right, Lin Jian?"
Lin Jian nodded smugly. "I can’t argue with that. I don’t just have a few tricks; I have dozens."
"The second thing is, I want Lin Jian to help me beat someone up this afternoon," Jiang Xue added.
"No way!" Lin Jian immediately protested. "I’m not your hired thug, and I’m not related to you in any way. Why should I help you?"
"Hmph, I wasn’t asking you. I was asking Ziqiu," Jiang Xue huffed.
Lin Jian choked on his words, momentarily stunned.
At this time, Ye Ziqiu frowned and said, "It’s fine if you want him to help Uncle Jiang pick out antiques, but forget about beating people up. I don’t agree with that!"
"Fine, fine. Just helping my dad pick out antiques is enough. I won’t need him for the second thing!" the Little Wild Cat, Jiang Xue, compromised.
"That works. Lin Jian, go with Xue’Er this afternoon," Ye Ziqiu commanded softly.
"I protest..." Lin Jian said with a bitter face. "Old Ye, you didn’t even ask if I agreed before just giving me away?"
Ye Ziqiu couldn’t help but smile, though she quickly put on a stern expression. "What? Does my word as the boss carry no weight?"
"It does, it does. I will resolutely and perfectly complete the task assigned by the boss."
Lin Jian knew he had absolutely no choice. He had to give Old Ye face. Furthermore, helping the Chairman of the Board of Sanjiang Group pick out antiques would be an eye-opening experience for him, so why shouldn’t he go?
