Chapter 69: Underworld Boss Chen Zhiyuan

As the saying goes, having friends in high places makes everything easier. Although Lin Jian wasn’t an executive, with President Ye looking out for him, he simply ditched work right after lunch.

Naturally, he let Liu Fei know before slipping away, and then he hopped into the Little Wild Cat Jiang Xue’s white G-Wagon.

Jiang Xue was driving this time. Since she wasn’t very tall, the driver’s seat was adjusted remarkably high. For someone as petite as her to be commanding such a massive SUV looked rather comical. Lin Jian sat in the passenger seat, rolled down the window, lit a cigarette, and admired the little beauty’s expression as she drove.

Perhaps feeling a bit self-conscious under his gaze, she glared at him when they stopped at a red light. "Have you looked enough?"

"Nope."

Jiang Xue was instantly left speechless. Ordinary tricks were useless against a thick-skinned, ruthless guy like him. Rubbing her forehead in frustration, she asked, "Are you usually this much of a pervert?"

"Lady, I’m a decent man, okay? How can you use ’pervert’ to describe me?" Lin Jian protested.

"Who are you calling ’lady’?" Jiang Xue shot him another glare.

Lin Jian shot back, "If I can’t call you ’lady,’ what should I call you? ’Auntie’?"

"I... you..." Jiang Xue completely lost her temper.

This bastard of a security guard clearly lacked any concept of social class. He simply didn’t care whether she was a wealthy young heiress. To deal with someone this lecherous and arrogant, she had to drop her superior attitude.

Suppressing her annoyance, she continued, "There were some things I didn’t say during lunch. After all, Ziqiu is different from us."

"Different how? What are you trying to say?" Lin Jian asked curiously.

"Ziqiu didn’t let you help me beat someone up. That’s her virtue. She strictly abides by rules, social boundaries, and the law. But I’m different. I’m the exact opposite. I hate following rules, and I don’t care about boundaries. So, you’re still going to help me beat someone up later!"

"No can do." Lin Jian immediately shook his head. "I have to listen to Old Ye. If Old Ye says no, I’ll stand my ground and refuse."

"Tch!" Jiang Xue scoffed. "Would you do it for two hundred thousand?"

"COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH!"

Lin Jian nearly choked on his smoke. Seeing his reaction, Jiang Xue burst into laughter.

She knew it—there was nothing in this world that money couldn’t solve. Ye Ziqiu might have forbidden the little security guard from helping her, but if she slipped him some cash privately, he would definitely take her side without Ye Ziqiu ever knowing.

Money talked, even to a little security guard!

"No problem! Given how close we are, I’ll definitely help you beat them up. Absolutely no problem!" Lin Jian patted his chest confidently.

"Don’t get careless. The person we’re beating up today might be even stronger than the Four Great Vajras," Jiang Xue reminded him.

Lin Jian curled his lips. "Forget the Four Great Vajras. They’re just four little meatworms."

Just as he said this, his phone suddenly rang. He pulled it out and saw an unfamiliar number.

"Hello? Who is this?" he answered.

"Lin Jian, this is Wang Qinglong from Ruyi Company." Over the phone, Long from Ruyi introduced himself.

"Ah, Long, right? Today marks the end of the three-day deadline. Are you calling to remind me?" Lin Jian had almost forgotten about Long’s matter. Even though he had already dealt with Long’s little master, Young Master Chen, Long hadn’t played by the rules, which was why Lin Jian previously declared that things between them weren’t over.

"Yes and no. How about we meet tonight to resolve our previous misunderstanding?" Long’s tone on the phone wasn’t arrogant in the slightest; instead, he spoke very calmly.

However, before Lin Jian could reply, Jiang Xue yelled, "He doesn’t have time tonight! You have business to do with me tonight."

Lin Jian shrugged. "Sorry, Long. My girl says I have business to do with her tonight."

"PFFT!"

"SCREECH!"

Jiang Xue nearly coughed up blood and, in her distraction, almost rear-ended the car in front of them. Furious, she started looking for something to hit Lin Jian with.

He was infuriatingly shameless! How could there be such a shameless security guard in this world?

"Then do you have time now?" Long asked over the phone.

"Now..." Lin Jian thought for a moment, then covered the phone’s receiver and asked, "What time are you meeting your dad?"

"Three o’clock," Jiang Xue replied reluctantly.

"Then there’s plenty of time!" Lin Jian quickly turned back to the phone. "I’m free until three. Are you coming to find me, or should I go to you?"

"You come to me. I’m right here at the Xishan Reservoir," Long said.

"Oh? Is that your stronghold?" Lin Jian scoffed. "Alright, wait there."

After hanging up, he thought for a moment and said, "Pull over. Give me the address, and I’ll meet up with you before three!"

"What do you mean?" Jiang Xue panicked. "You belong to me this afternoon and evening! Are you trying to slip away?"

In her anxiety, she claimed he belonged to her.

Lin Jian rolled his eyes. "I’ll just go beat someone up and reappear in front of you before three. It’s that simple!"

"You’re going to beat someone up? Then I absolutely have to go! Hurry up and tell me the address. I’m coming with you!" Jiang Xue’s small face flushed with excitement upon hearing there would be a fight. This was too thrilling—she actually got to watch a brawl!

Lin Jian was left speechless. Was she really a girl? What kind of girl got this excited at the mere mention of a fight?

"Stop messing around. The other side has clearly set up a Banquet of Hongmen today. Even I might not get out of there completely unscathed. If I bring you along and something happens, I won’t be able to bear the responsibility."

"You don’t need to take responsibility! I... I... Just treat me like your Uber driver! Otherwise, you’d have to call a cab anyway. Just pretend I’m a taxi driver. I promise I won’t cause any trouble!"

Lin Jian pondered for a moment. Even if today’s meeting was a Banquet of Hongmen, he was confident he could tear through them with ease. Bringing Jiang Xue along wouldn’t be a huge issue.

"Alright, let’s switch seats." Lin Jian agreed readily.

"Yes!" Jiang Xue excitedly unbuckled her seatbelt and scrambled over the center console. Because she was petite and the car was spacious, moving over was effortless. Lin Jian, on the other hand, had to get out and walk around to the driver’s side.

"Hold on tight. Let’s go." Lin Jian quickly made a U-turn and sped toward the Xishan Reservoir.

Meanwhile, in a small courtyard by the sluice gate of the Xishan Reservoir.

This was the very same courtyard where Lin Jian had beaten up Young Master Chen previously. It wasn’t large, featuring a small vegetable garden on one side, an old water well in the center, and a sunshade canopy. Two luxury cars were parked outside the courtyard: a Maybach and a Range Rover.

Under the sunshade sat a square Eight Immortals table. On it was a plate of freshly picked tomatoes and small cucumbers from the garden. Chen Zhiyuan, known as Master Chen, the top boss of the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai underworld, was currently sitting at the table, drinking tea and eating a small cucumber.

They had just finished lunch, which consisted of local chicken and large white fish from the reservoir. There weren’t many people in their group—only six in total.

Long and Huang Mao from Ruyi Company were among them, but they were merely acting as waiters at the moment. They didn’t even dare to sit down. Only three people were seated at the Eight Immortals table.

One was a middle-aged man slightly younger than Master Chen. Despite the sweltering heat of summer, he was dressed in a long robe similar to those worn in ancient times, paired with traditional multi-layered cloth shoes. What was even more astonishing was that, despite the scorching weather and his thick clothing, he hadn’t shed a single drop of sweat.

In contrast, Master Chen, Long, Huang Mao, and the others were all sweating profusely despite wearing light clothing. After all, it was just past Noon, and July and August in Jiangsu and Zhejiang were known for having the hottest weather.

The other seated person was much younger, looking about twenty-seven or twenty-eight. He wore a tank top and large shorts. His only distinguishing feature was a small topknot tied on his head. However, one could tell he was a martial artist just by looking at his heavily muscled physique!

There was one other person who wasn’t seated—likely the Maybach’s driver. In the dead heat of the day, he was currently washing the car using the hose meant for watering the vegetable garden.
