Chapter 86: Testing Xu Xiaohui and the Other Two
Chapter 86: Testing Xu Xiaohui and the Other Two
"Mr. Lin, after our boss heard that you wanted to take over Ruyi Company, he had Lawyer Meng draft the transfer contract overnight. Please take a look at it first!" After the group took their seats in the office, Long handed over the transfer contract.
Lin Jian smiled and took the document. "Your boss? You mean Mr. Chen?"
"Yes. When I took your call yesterday, the boss was right next to me."
Lin Jian nodded noncommittally and then looked at the contract in his hands.
The contract wasn’t long, only two pages. However, to Lin Jian’s astonishment, Ruyi Company was being transferred to him for the grand total of one yuan—and this included seven months of prepaid rent and all of the company’s existing equipment. Although he didn’t know much about contracts, he couldn’t spot any hidden clauses. After reading it through, he asked with a strange expression, "Is Mr. Chen just giving this company to me for free?"
"How could it be for free? Isn’t there a price tag of one yuan? Besides..." Long paused for a moment before continuing, "Besides, even if you hadn’t come along, Ruyi was going to be deregistered in a few days anyway."
Lin Jian nodded. Long had already mentioned this when they spoke on the phone earlier, though even Long wasn’t entirely sure of the exact reason. After pondering for a moment, Lin Jian smiled. "Alright, let’s do this then." With that, he signed his name on the contract.
He then handed his ID card to Lawyer Meng to take a picture, as the lawyer was responsible for handling the procedures to change the legal representative. As for the one yuan, Lin Jian didn’t actually take it out. If he had really handed over a single coin, it would have been a slap in Long’s face. The so-called price of one yuan was merely a formality for the contract.
After seeing Lawyer Meng off, Lin Jian turned to Long. "Tell you what, Long. Since we’ve gotten to know each other after a bit of a scuffle, bring Huang Mao along tonight and let’s have dinner together!"
"Mr. Lin, please don’t address me so respectfully anymore. I really don’t deserve it." Long cupped his hands in a bitter smile. He didn’t dare to act arrogant in front of a fierce guy like Lin Jian, who was highly appreciated by the big boss. However, after cupping his hands, he suddenly looked at Lin Jian again. "Mr. Lin, now that the company has been transferred, Huang Mao and I are out of a job. Are you still hiring?"
Lin Jian was taken aback. "Out of a job?"
"Yeah," Long nodded.
At this moment, Huang Mao was also staring at Lin Jian with a look of longing. When Lin Jian glanced his way, he hurriedly offered a teacup. "Please have some tea, Lin."
Lin Jian took it subconsciously and scratched his chin twice. "Sure, the two of you can stay. It just so happens that a few of my buddies aren’t very familiar with this kind of company’s business, so you guys can show them the ropes."
"No problem at all," Long and Huang Mao quickly promised.
"Then we’ll talk more when we meet tonight. We can discuss salaries and all that then. But for now, you need to tidy up the office and put three beds in there. Also, find someone to set up a simple stove in the utility room inside."
"Consider it done," Long agreed without hesitation.
Lin Jian didn’t say anything else. Instead, he added Long and Huang Mao on WeChat and then transferred ten thousand yuan to Long. Buying beds and pots would require money, after all. "That’s it for now. If anything else comes up, we’ll discuss it tonight."
Lin Jian took Xu Xiaohui and drove away. As soon as he saw Lin Jian leave, Long immediately called Master Chen. He had to report to Master Chen that he had successfully completed the task assigned by Master San.
Meanwhile, in the car, Xu Xiaohui was smoking in silence.
After driving for a while, Lin Jian spoke up. "Once the legal representative change is complete, we’ll sign a company equity agreement. I’ll hold eighty percent of the shares, while you, Wang Chuang, and Tan Jian will each hold five percent. As for the remaining five percent, we’ll leave it vacant for now. If the company grows and expands in the future, we can use it to reward the employees!"
Xu Xiaohui shot Lin Jian a glance. "We get five percent of the shares without doing anything?"
"Don’t complain that it’s too little. After all, the company itself only cost a one-yuan investment!" Lin Jian joked.
"That’s different!" Xu Xiaohui shook his head. "Someone else practically giving it to you for one yuan is a favor between you two. But we don’t even know the guy, so we can’t accept this five percent."
Lin Jian thought for a moment. "I’ve thought carefully about why I’m giving you guys shares. It’s to keep you firmly on board. Plus, once you have shares, you’ll work much harder.
"You’ll also treat the company like your own home and put your heart into developing it.
"If I’m the only boss in the company and I don’t even show up every day, how long do you think this place would last?
"But it’s different with the three of you. Since you’re also bosses, even if I don’t show my face or manage the company, you guys will. You’ll take the initiative to develop the business and expand the company.
"So, I’m not doing this for you. I’m doing it for myself.
"Because of that, this matter is settled.
"Your salary will still be ten thousand a month. Don’t say it’s too much or anything. Your buddy here is practically a multi-millionaire now, so just take whatever I give you.
"And one last thing. Didn’t I tell you I took on a job? Well, this job carries a certain level of danger!"
"Oh?" Xu Xiaohui raised an eyebrow. "What kind of danger?"
Lin Jian considered his words before saying, "You guys will need to travel to another city and ask around for information on a certain criminal.
"This criminal previously trafficked in national antiques and such. He’s the leader of a tomb-raiding gang, and this gang is called the Nightwalker Guild.
"Right now, all I know is that his nickname is Old Cat, and he has murder charges on his head. I heard that when he was caught a while ago, they found two guns on him.
"But he later managed to break out of prison.
"So he’s a desperate fugitive. You’ll only be responsible for searching and gathering information, but even so, the danger is extremely high. You need to be mentally prepared."
"Alright, we’ll do it!" Xu Xiaohui pulled out two more cigarettes, handing one to Lin Jian. "Working as a security guard at the company was boring me to death. My skills were completely useless there, but now they’ll finally come in handy!"
"Yeah, I know you’re capable, but the other side is just as capable. Make absolutely sure you’re careful when the time comes.
"In a few days, once I get Old Cat’s detailed file, you guys can formulate an action plan.
"As for the payout for this case, it’s not that high. After deducting the company’s cut, once you complete the job, the total comes to... one hundred and fifty thousand. That’s an average of fifty thousand per person."
"One hundred and fifty thousand?" Xu Xiaohui drew in a sharp breath. "Are you saying that we just need to find his whereabouts without even having to catch him, and we’ll rake in one hundred and fifty thousand?"
"Yeah, it’s a bit on the low side." Lin Jian didn’t say much more. For one, he was paying this money out of his own pocket. Secondly, he needed them to understand that money wasn’t actually easy to earn.
However, Xu Xiaohui’s reaction took Lin Jian completely by surprise.
"That’s not a small amount! How is that low?" Xu Xiaohui said in disbelief. "Our entire year’s salary combined doesn’t even reach fifty thousand, yet we can make fifty thousand from this one single case. This is practically like picking up free money! Why would I complain about that?"
Lin Jian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Fair enough. For someone who couldn’t even save three thousand yuan by the end of the year, making fifty thousand from a single job really was quite a lot. But whether the three of them could actually earn this one hundred and fifty thousand in the end would depend on their own abilities. This case would also be the perfect test to see what they were truly made of.
