Chapter 89: Letter from the Assassin

At 5:00 p.m., with half an hour left until the end of his shift, Song Army suddenly called Lin Jian over the walkie-talkie. Song Army had always been in charge of the lobby at Rejuvenation Hotel, but Lin Jian didn’t have a good impression of him. The man was an obvious snob and was part of Zhang Qiang’s faction.

"Old Song, what’s up?" Lin Jian asked.

He had already changed out of his uniform. Originally, he was scheduled for the night shift, but since Liu Fei knew he now drove for President Ye, he took him off those shifts. Thus, Lin Jian was ready to clock out.

"Vice Manager Lin, there’s a letter for you here in the hotel lobby."

"What?" Lin Jian thought he had misheard. A letter for him in the lobby? Who even wrote letters nowadays? Besides, why send it to the hotel lobby?

"Vice Manager Lin, I can’t step away right now. Come pick it up yourself," Old Song said.

"Alright." Lin Jian didn’t overthink it. He was curious to see who on earth would send a letter to the hotel lobby.

Five minutes later, Lin Jian stepped into the hotel lobby. As soon as he walked in, both the doormen and the cashiers greeted him warmly. There were no secrets at Rejuvenation; the news that Lin Jian drove for President Ye had already spread throughout the entire hotel. Therefore, this newcomer to Rejuvenation was now quite the rising star.

"Lin, I don’t know who left this letter here," one of the cashiers said sweetly, handing him an envelope.

"Thanks."

After thanking her, Lin Jian tore the envelope open and pulled out the letter as he walked away. The moment he pulled out the paper, several photos slipped out and fell to the floor!

He picked them up, his face instantly darkening. To his shock, they were candid shots of his mother, Lin Jing. There were three photos in total: one of her working in the bank lobby, one of her getting on a bus after work, and another of her entering the gate of their residential complex!

Lin Jian coldly pocketed the photos and glanced at the letter.

"See you on the rooftop terrace after dark." Those were the only words!

Lin Jian took a deep breath. *After dark, on the rooftop terrace.* The rooftop mentioned here most likely referred to the hotel’s roof.

"In that case, the person who wants to meet me should be inside the hotel, otherwise they couldn’t have left the letter at the front desk," he thought.

His mind worked incredibly fast, instantly confirming that the other party was in the building, most likely even a guest at the hotel. Lin Jian walked over to a sofa, sat down, and lit a cigarette.

By making him look at these three photos, the other party was warning him that if he didn’t show up on the rooftop after dark, they would target his mother. At this thought, he took out his phone and called Lin Jing.

The phone rang six or seven times before it was answered. "Lin Jian, are you home?"

"Mom, are you not at home?" Lin Jian asked in return.

"Yeah, I’m... I’m out for dinner with a few colleagues. Have you eaten? If not, Mom will pack some food for you to take back."

"I’m not home, I haven’t gotten off work yet. I was just checking on you. Go ahead and eat. I’ll be busy the next few days, so I won’t come back to see you."

"Got it, work comes first," Lin Jing advised over the phone.

"I’ll hang up then." Lin Jian took the initiative to end the call.

There were only twenty minutes left until he clocked out. Ye Ziqiu had previously told him to get off work at the normal time, so no matter what, he couldn’t let Ye Ziqiu wait for him today. After a moment of consideration, he stepped into the elevator, deciding to check out the rooftop first. If that didn’t work out, he would ask for a temporary leave of absence to come back out tonight after dropping Ye Ziqiu off at home.

The elevator quickly reached the top floor, which housed only a single presidential suite. To get to the rooftop terrace, one had to first enter the utility room on the top floor and go up through its iron door. Normally, this iron door was locked. There were three keys in total: one was in the security department, and one was kept by the cleaning lady.

The cleaning lady wasn’t around at the moment, and it was unknown where she had gone. When he pushed open the utility room door and looked inside, he immediately noticed that the door leading to the terrace was unlocked! The padlock had vanished into thin air.

Clearly, someone had cased the joint beforehand!

He walked in and, a moment later, passed through the iron door to step onto the rooftop terrace! The terrace was exceptionally vast and spacious, with the outdoor units of the central air conditioning buzzing loudly. Standing on the rooftop, however, gave him a refreshing and relaxing feeling; standing higher meant seeing further.

There was no one on the terrace right now. Obviously, that person wouldn’t show up until tonight. However... Lin Jian figured that if this person wasn’t a Rejuvenation staff member, but rather a hotel guest, they would definitely be staying on one of the top floors. Therefore, taking advantage of the time he had now, Lin Jian turned around and walked briskly back inside!

When he returned to the top floor corridor, his Thought suddenly swept toward the presidential suite!

"Huh? What a towering guy!" he thought.

In his Thought, the first person he spotted was a tall man built like an iron tower, likely reaching a massive height of two meters. This person had broad shoulders and large hands, resembling a small giant, and was currently doing squats in the suite’s private gym!

Lin Jian continued to probe the other rooms with his Thought. With this sweep, his eyebrows shot up in surprise!

A young Master was actually wearing a short-sleeved Tang suit, Cyan Cloud gauze pants, and multi-layered cloth shoes, sitting with his five centers facing the sky. The so-called five centers referred to the crown of the head, the palms of both hands, and the soles of both feet. This sitting posture was just like that of a temple monk; it was also known as meditation!

Seeing this scene, Lin Jian had already confirmed who sent the letter! Moreover, the young man had a rather strong Inner Power Cultivation. He was actually an Internal Martial Artist. Although he was slightly weaker than Xu Fengbin from before, his Dantian Qi was still quite abundant.

Lin Jian breathed a sigh of relief at the sight. He had found his target. Even though the other party was a master, to him, the man couldn’t withstand a single blow.

Previously, when he fought Xu Fengbin, it was a spar, an exchange of moves, rather than a life-or-death struggle, which was why he had felt constrained. However, if it were a life-or-death battle, he could have instantly killed Xu Fengbin in a single move. Since his Thought could perceive everything, he could pinpoint Xu Fengbin’s greatest flaw and deliver a fatal strike!

Furthermore, he could also use Mind Control, meaning he could nail the opponent dead with just a single nail!

At this thought, he turned around and headed downstairs. It was almost time to clock out, so handling his official duties took priority; he would just let them wait here for now.

Soon, he reached the ground floor and walked over to the cashier’s desk. There were two young girls at the desk, both quite pretty. One of them was the cashier who had called him Lin earlier.

"Lin, is something wrong?" Seeing Lin Jian looking at her, Cashier Lin asked curiously.

Lin Jian glanced at the duty roster on the wall, his eyes lighting up. "You’re Lin Xiaoya?"

"Mhm, we have the same last name," Lin Xiaoya said with a giggle.

"We’re practically family. Let’s add each other on WeChat so we can keep in touch," Lin Jian said, taking out his phone.

Lin Xiaoya’s face flushed red, but she still pulled up her phone’s QR code and offered it to him.

As Lin Jian scanned the code, he asked, "What’s the phone number for the presidential suite upstairs?"

"It’s 0035. Why do you ask?" Lin Xiaoya inquired.

Lin Jian smiled. "I need to make a call."

Saying so, he used the front desk’s intercom to dial the presidential suite. The phone rang for a long time without anyone answering, but Lin Jian wasn’t in a hurry at all. If they didn’t pick up the first time, he would just call a second time.

After ringing seven or eight times on the second attempt, the call was finally connected.

"Speak." The voice was icy cold.

"This is Lin Jian. I’m treating my colleagues to dinner tonight, and I also need to drive President Ye home. You guys just wait for a bit. I should be able to make it over around ten o’clock."

In the presidential suite, the Young Master holding the phone froze in disbelief. His mind went completely blank.
