Chapter 91: The Young Master Takes Action

Since Ye Ziqiu hadn’t recognized Xu Xiaohui and his two friends, Lin Jian was happy to play dumb. However, the trio still couldn’t completely relax.

Fortunately, Long, also known as Wang Qinglong, didn’t know who Ye Ziqiu was, assuming she was simply Lin Jian’s girlfriend. With him and Huang Mao livening up the atmosphere, the dinner table didn’t feel awkward at all.

Wang Qinglong was considered a local kingpin in Jiang City. Xu Xiaohui and his two friends were heavy drinkers. They barely spoke at the table and just kept chugging alcohol. Eventually, the trio successfully got Huang Mao drunk, and by the end of the night, they were slinging their arms over Wang Qinglong’s shoulders like best brothers.

An hour later, Lin Jian and Ye Ziqiu left while Wang Qinglong and the others continued drinking. The main purpose of today’s gathering was for everyone to get acquainted, especially to help Xu Xiaohui and his friends familiarize themselves with Long and Huang Mao as quickly as possible.

"Why do I get the feeling those three were acting a bit off? They looked like they had a guilty conscience and didn’t even dare to look at me!"

In the car, Ye Ziqiu brought up Xu Xiaohui and his friends with an odd expression, finding their behavior far too abnormal. The three men seemed to be afraid of her, actively avoiding her gaze. Regardless, it was just too strange.

Lin Jian chuckled. "Those three guys blush the second they see a pretty woman. Since you’re such a great beauty, it’d be a miracle if they could string a sentence together in front of you!"

Lin Jian laughed again. "I’m just stating facts! I’m really not trying to butter you up."

"You’re such a sweet talker."

Ye Ziqiu felt wonderful inside, her face beaming with a bright smile.

"By the way, Old Ye, after I drop you off at home, I want to go check on my mom. She went out drinking with her colleagues tonight, so I need to make sure she didn’t drink too much. I’ll need an hour off—can I come back in an hour?"

"Ah? Then you... of course you can! You could even just stay at your place tonight, I wouldn’t mind." She was completely fine with him spending the night at his own house.

"That won’t be necessary, I just need to go take a quick look," Lin Jian replied with a smile.

"Alright, then. Just drop me off at the main gate of the villa district and you can head off. You don’t need to drive all the way inside; I can walk back."

"I’m not in that much of a rush. I have to see you safely home, at least," Lin Jian said, shaking his head in refusal.

"Up to you." Ye Ziqiu paused for a moment before adding, "Coincidentally, there are some nutritional supplements in the dining room. Take them back for your mother. I don’t use them, so it’d be a waste to just leave them sitting there!

"I don’t mean anything else by it, though! They’re all high-quality items with good expiration dates."

"I saw those. Isn’t it bird’s nest and Ejiao? You really don’t use them?" Lin Jian had noticed the stack of gift boxes earlier.

"I don’t like eating them," Ye Ziqiu replied. "But since they were gifts, it was hard to refuse."

"Alright, I won’t be polite about it then. Since these are a token of respect from her future daughter-in-law, I’ll pack them all up and take them with me!" Lin Jian teased with a wicked grin.

Ye Ziqiu was speechless for a moment before saying, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, "Lin Jian, what do you think is the thickest thing in the world?"

"The thickest thing in the world?" Lin Jian blinked. "I have the most authority to answer that. It’s my thick skin..."

"Hahaha."

Hearing his response, Ye Ziqiu burst into laughter. Being with Lin Jian was always this relaxing and joyful.

Soon, the two returned to the Green City Villa District, driving all the way into the courtyard of her villa. They stepped out of the car at the same time. As she got out, Ye Ziqiu smiled and said, "I found a great movie a few days ago, and I downloaded it onto a flash drive at the office today. When you come back tonight, let’s watch it together."

Inside the villa, there was a small home theater with a projector. Thus, Ye Ziqiu wanted to watch a movie with Lin Jian in the middle of the night. It seemed she truly wanted to have a passionate, earth-shattering romance with him!

"Then you absolutely have to wait for me to get back. Don’t start watching it without me!" Lin Jian unlocked the front door with his key as he spoke, then reached out to feel for the light switch on the wall.

He flipped the switch, but the lights didn’t turn on.

"What’s wrong? Is there a power outage? That shouldn’t be right; I paid the electricity bill when I moved in. It shouldn’t be cut off, and the other houses still have power." Ye Ziqiu squeezed past him into the living room as she spoke. She knew where the breaker box was, so she intended to check if it had tripped.

However, before she could take more than a few steps, Lin Jian suddenly grabbed her arm and yanked her back to his side!

"Lin Jian, don’t... what are you doing..."

Ye Ziqiu thought Lin Jian was trying to make an inappropriate move on her in the pitch-black house. Her heart began to pound violently in her chest! Although she had her fantasies and expectations, there was also a trace of annoyance because she felt it was too fast—her relationship with Lin Jian was developing too quickly!

However, right at that moment, Lin Jian whispered softly into her ear, his breath tickling her skin, "Don’t speak. There’s someone in the house!"

Hearing his words, Ye Ziqiu almost screamed out loud! There was someone in the house!

"Stand behind me. Don’t go outside; there are people out there, too." Lin Jian pulled Ye Ziqiu fully behind his back. Only then did he stare into the darkness of the room and speak. "Are you in that much of a hurry? Didn’t we agree I’d come over at ten o’clock? Why did you show up here early?"

The Young Master was sitting quietly on the living room sofa, completely motionless! He had long grown accustomed to this level of darkness. Meanwhile, Lin Jian and Ye Ziqiu, who had just entered from outside, were still adjusting their vision. Ye Ziqiu, in particular, could see nothing but pitch black!

However, when she heard a stranger’s voice coming from inside the house, she was terrified and immediately grabbed Lin Jian’s hand! Lin Jian intertwined his fingers with hers, giving her Power.

"Originally, this woman surnamed Ye could have lived a few days longer. After all, our plan was to kill you first, then kill her. But your reckless actions today have forced me to push up the timeline. So, my apologies, but may you both rest in peace!"

As soon as the Young Master’s voice fell, his toes lightly pushed off the coffee table. Like a great soaring bird, he lunged straight at Lin Jian and Ye Ziqiu!
