Chapter 97: Old Cat in Anxi Lantian

Although Jiang Xue had told Manager Wang to strictly enforce company policy, the deal was ultimately closed at a twenty-five percent discount.

This was the corporate executive rate. Manager Wang wasn’t stupid; it was obvious that the relationship between the chairman’s daughter and Lin Jian was anything but ordinary. Furthermore, Miss Jiang had mentioned twice that ’her dad’ wanted to give Lin Jian a house, but he had refused.

Therefore, to make up for his previous offense against Lin Jian, Manager Wang bit the bullet and sold him the house at the discounted rate.

How much did this discount amount to? It saved Lin Jian over 3.7 million yuan. In the end, his closing price was only a little over eleven million.

Additionally, Manager Wang patted his chest and confidently promised that he would handle the property deed and other paperwork, and that the complimentary appliances would all be from top-tier brands.

To express his gratitude, Lin Jian tried to slip Manager Wang a fat red envelope, but the manager adamantly refused. Lin Jian had no choice but to leave his phone number and promise to treat him to a meal someday.

It took the entire morning to secure the massive flat on the twenty-fifth floor of Building 33 in Green City, and it was nearly noon by the time they finished. Without skipping a beat, Lin Jian drove to the front gate of the city police department and gave Shen Ke a call.

They had agreed to have lunch together today!

A moment later, Shen Ke walked out of the main gate in plainclothes, wearing a short skirt. Her long legs, accentuated by the skirt, were an absolute feast for the eyes. Any man seeing those legs would struggle to resist taking a few extra glances. They were legs that belonged on a supermodel.

Lin Jian took a deep breath. She was an absolute Demon; those legs alone could enchant an entire army. He quickly got out of the car and waved.

Shen Ke looked strangely at the red Ferrari Lin Jian was driving. This was a car typically driven by girls, and it was far from cheap. Although she didn’t know much about cars, she knew a red Ferrari wouldn’t go for anything less than several million.

"Are you being kept by a sugar mama?" Shen Ke asked, sizing him up with an odd look as soon as she got in.

Lin Jian rolled his eyes. "I wish I were. I’d love to skip the hard work, but I don’t have the connections to meet any rich women. Why don’t you introduce me to a few, Shen Ke?"

"Pfft, smooth talker!" Shen Ke laughed.

From the sound of it, he wasn’t actually a kept man. She wondered why her mood had suddenly improved upon realizing this.

"It’s my company boss’s car. I had the keys, so I just drove it out," Lin Jian explained.

"A female boss?" Shen Ke asked in surprise.

"Yeah, a female boss, and incredibly gorgeous too," Lin Jian chuckled.

Shen Ke rolled her eyes. "With you being such a massive pervert, even a sow would look gorgeous to you."

"Pfft—" Lin Jian nearly spat blood. That was a serious blow to his ego! He shouted, "Shen Ke, I challenge you to a duel! I’m going to your place tonight and we’ll duel until morning!"

"Giggle... Keep dreaming. Take a right up ahead..." Shen Ke was ecstatic. Seeing Lin Jian frustrated always put her in a great mood.

The car made a few turns and finally pulled up at a restaurant called Fishing Port Pier. Shen Ke had said she wanted to eat fish, which was why they came here. It was Lin Jian’s first time.

"Their fish is incredibly fresh," Shen Ke said with a smile. "Plus, eating fish makes you smarter and won’t make you fat. You should eat more of it from now on. Hmm, eating more might even help you grow a bit. Otherwise, you’ll always look like a little brat!"

She took every opportunity to make it clear that she saw Lin Jian as nothing more than a kid.

"Shen Ke, doesn’t your conscience hurt?" Lin Jian snorted. "Have you ever seen a little brat with muscles this solid, height this tall, and a face this handsome?"

"Stop bragging, or your ego will float right up into the sky. But you are pretty handsome, actually. Tell me, how many girls have you ruined?"

The two sat in a booth, chatting while waiting for their food.

"Shen Ke, I’m going crazy from holding back. When have I ever ruined any girls? Didn’t you see me get a nosebleed that day?"

"Don’t speak nonsense." Shen Ke’s face reddened. Lin Jian saying he was going crazy from holding back—this kid only knew how to spout nonsense.

"By the way, Shen Ke, is Old Cat out of Jiang City now?" Lin Jian began to probe for information.

"He ran away ages ago," Shen Ke said in frustration. "He’s too cunning. I tracked him for over two years, and he still managed to slip away in the end!"

"Then how do you know he ran away? Couldn’t he be hiding in plain sight?" Lin Jian pressed.

"We found a valuable clue. He took the high-speed rail that very day and got off at Anxi."

"Anxi?" Lin Jian raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah."

Shen Ke didn’t hide anything from him. For one, Lin Jian had helped her catch Old Cat before, making him somewhat involved. Secondly, she didn’t think he was trying to pry information out of her; she saw him as a good little brother. Thus, there was nothing to hide.

"We used big data and spotted him on a surveillance camera at the Anxi railway station," Shen Ke continued. "Our squad sent people to track him, but they lost his trail."

Lin Jian nodded in deep agreement. "Anxi is massive. If someone hides there, finding them is next to impossible!"

"Yeah, that’s the truth. But he had a purpose for going to Anxi. According to the leads we have, two of his accomplices confessed that there’s a Tang Dynasty Prince’s Tomb in Lantian County. They’ve been searching the area for over a year and seem to have found a lead. However, only Old Cat knows the exact location. He’s extremely cautious.

"So, there’s a high probability he’ll show up in Lantian County. We’ve even merged with the Lantian County task force now."

"Lantian County!" Lin Jian’s eyes lit up. That narrowed the search radius significantly. Moreover, Old Cat was very likely continuing his tomb-raiding activities there. This was crucial information.

"Make sure you don’t go there. Old Cat is clearly a desperate outlaw," Lin Jian warned her.

"Are you worried about me?" As soon as Shen Ke said it, she felt it sounded a bit too flirtatious, so she quickly lowered her head to drink her water.

Lin Jian replied very seriously, "Shen Ke, I think you should just transfer to a desk job. You’re a girl; why are you working as a detective?"

"Fighting crime and protecting the innocent is my calling. But don’t worry, I’ll be fine!"

"You say you’ll be fine, but if it weren’t for me the day before yesterday, you would have been shoved into a furnace."

Shen Ke blushed. "That was an accident. But Lin Jian, tell me, what kind of martial arts do you practice? You crippled five guys and severely injured the rest. Weren’t you a bit too ruthless? Also, the department knows someone saved me, but I didn’t give you up, and they didn’t press the issue."

Although she said it casually, it was obvious she had withstood a lot of pressure to keep Lin Jian’s name out of it.

"What kind of martial arts do I practice?" Lin Jian smirked wickedly. "How about I go to your place tonight and we spar a bit? Then you’ll know exactly what kind of martial arts."

Shen Ke’s eyes widened. "Hey, you little brat, you’re pushing your luck, aren’t you? Fine, I’ll wait for you tonight. Let’s see if you have the guts to show up!"

"Really?" Lin Jian’s eyes lit up brilliantly. "Shen Ke, no backing out now. I’ll make you beg for mercy tonight!"

Shen Ke raised her hand and flicked him hard on the forehead. "Beg for mercy, my ass! You little brat, your imagination runs entirely too wild. Hurry up and eat."

By this point, her face was red all the way to the base of her neck.
