AFTERWORD

First, I’d like to give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who purchased this book. I look forward to your continued support, whether this is your first one or otherwise.

Tatsuya, Miyuki, and their friends have advanced to their second year, and this episode was about their new underclassmen. Did it suit your fancy? This series will be going from the protagonist siblings’ entrance into high school until their graduation, which means it can’t be without year-advancement events, nor the renewal of human relationships that must come with them. As you can tell from reading this volume, characters won’t disappear forever just because they’ve graduated, but I also have to put the new characters in the spotlight. Otherwise, there’s not much point in introducing them.

What I need to think about in that regard is what personalities the new characters will have. I actually almost didn’t struggle at all with character building for the new students. I already had rough ideas for all of them when I first began writing this story. Of course, there were several places that needed moderate revisions. The thing that changed most was probably Kento originally being a crossdressing boy. For understandable reasons, that was dropped when I was putting together the Double Seven arc’s story line.

My headache is the new students who will appear next year. To be quite frank, their character profiles are blank slates… Well, thinking about episodes that will happen next year is unrealistic. But if this series safely makes it that far, you can feel free to laugh at the vestiges of the author’s suffering.

Changing the topic, as you know, the Double Seven arc was serialized in Dengeki Bunko Magazine. My goal was to deliver brand-brand-new episodes to the fans as soon as possible…but it was a somewhat reckless experiment that I now regret.

I put my stories together without thinking about the factors that are going into it at the time, so I knew going in it would be pretty rough, but I hadn’t thought it would be so full of holes… While writing, I was painfully aware that there was not nearly enough explanation about what was happening behind the scenes. I believe I was able to add in the bare minimum of supplements to this book edition—did it work out?

By the time this book is in stores, you will have all heard the big news. Actually, the Double Seven arc’s serialization placed a heavy load on the entire staff, but I think I’ll be putting them through even more in the future. I’m terribly sorry.

But all that’s just what’s happening backstage. The entire staff, including myself, intends to strive forward so that fans can enjoy The Irregular at Magic High School to an even greater extent, so I look forward to your support for this series in the future.
