Chapter 44: A Beauty Picked Up for Free

Seeing Old Xie’s expression was wrong, Chris Chen was immediately stunned and hurriedly asked, “Young Master, what is wrong with you?”

“I ask you!” Old Xie said with a livid face, “Is that Catherine terribly ugly? And does she have something abnormal about her? For instance, is she a mute, disabled, crazy, or has intelligence problems?”

“Ah?” Chris Chen was stunned upon hearing this and hurriedly said, “Young Master, why would you think that?”

“Is there even a need to ask?” Old Xie said angrily, “What was Little Stephen like before? A child without a mother, a child bullied by his Stepmother every day, a child with a brain problem who was mocked as an idiot. Even his classmates bullied him at will. A good-for-nothing like that—if the Eldest Princess was a girl as beautiful and kind as Constantine, would the Emperor be willing to marry his daughter to him?”

“This, I fear you have misunderstood!” Chris Chen suddenly said with a laugh, “Her Highness the Eldest Princess is certainly not inferior to Miss Constantine. In fact, she, Miss Constantine, and the daughter of the Rolf Family, Angelina, are known as the Three Great Beauties of the Kingdom. These three beauties are not only top-notch in appearance, but each also has their own special talents. Constantine inherited the wisdom of the Hercules Family, while Miss Angelina has great talent in business. As for your fiancée, Her Highness the Eldest Princess of the Empire, it is said she is a swordsmanship prodigy seen once in a thousand years!”

“Hm?” Old Xie was dumbfounded upon hearing this. He scratched his scalp casually and then said, “Since this princess is so good, why would the Emperor still marry her to a brainless idiot?”

“Oh, this might be related to the right of succession to the Throne!” Chris Chen said cautiously, “Of course, this is just my own guess.”

“Chris Chen, you don’t need to be so restrained in front of me. After all, you are my man. Would I harm you?” Old Xie glanced at him and then said, “Just say whatever you have to say. I trust your judgment!”

“Yes, Young Master!” Chris Chen was deeply moved by Old Xie’s words of trust. He immediately plucked up his courage and said, “Young Master, it is like this. According to the laws of the Kingdom, whether male or female , as long as they are the legitimate children of the King, they have the right of succession. The current Emperor has six children. The Eldest Prince and the Second Prince were born to maids in His Majesty’s early years, so they have no right of succession. The Third Prince is born to the current Queen and holds the first order of succession. The Eldest Princess is a year younger than the Third Prince, but she is born to the previous Queen, so she holds the second order of succession. Additionally, the 14-year-old Little Princess is also born to the current Queen, and she holds the third order of succession. As for the youngest Fourth Prince, he is born to another Imperial Concubine and holds the fourth order of succession. Only if all four of them cannot inherit the Throne, would the Eldest Prince and Second Prince possibly inherit the Throne.”

“Hm, continue!” Old Xie nodded encouragingly.

“Yes!” Chris Chen immediately continued, “Although the order of succession to the Throne is clear, this order is only useful if the Emperor dies unexpectedly. In reality, the Royal Family values the ability of the successor more. Therefore, the Emperor generally passes the Throne to the most outstanding child on his deathbed, not the oldest. Thus, theoretically speaking, these four direct Royal descendants have an equal chance of inheriting the Throne.”

“As the first in line, the Third Prince is now basically an adult. Judging by his displayed abilities, he is definitely a very outstanding successor. Both the major powerful families and the Emperor himself are very satisfied with him. Under normal circumstances, he would almost certainly achieve the final victory!” Chris Chen then said, “However, he unfortunately encountered Her Highness the Eldest Princess Catherine. The Eldest Princess is not only elegant in temperament and knowledgeable, but her conduct is also full of a strong regal style. Most terrifyingly, her swordsmanship talent is shockingly high, so much so that at the age of 5, she attracted the attention of the Human Race’s number one Expert on the Continent, Abraham, known as the Undefeated of the East.”

“Wait!” Old Xie almost died of laughter upon hearing this and hurriedly asked, “You say that Abraham is called ‘Undefeated of the East’?”

“Yes!” Chris Chen hurriedly nodded, “He is the number one Expert of our Human Race, and the place where we humans live is the eastern part of the Continent, so he is called the Undefeated of the East!”

“Haha!” Old Xie looked up and laughed loudly, leaving Chris Chen baffled.

The Old Steward naturally couldn’t know that on Earth there was a famous eunuch Expert also called Undefeated of the East, and Old Xie himself was teased as ‘Undefeated of East and West’. So he asked strangely, “Young Master, what is wrong with that?”

“Nothing, nothing!” Old Xie certainly wouldn’t explain it to him. He just asked with a smile, “Then is the number one Expert in the West called Undefeated of the West?”

“No!” Chris Chen hurriedly said, “The West is the domain of the Dwarves. Their number one Expert seems to be the Dwarf King!”

“Oh, alright, alright, you continue!” Old Xie shook his head after hearing this.

“Yes!” Chris Chen hurriedly continued, “Ultimately, the Eldest Princess’s talent moved Abraham. He officially took her in as his disciple. You must know, on this Continent, strength is respected above all. Even the inheritance of the Throne tests martial power. Undoubtedly, in this regard, the Third Prince is left far behind by the Eldest Princess. Additionally, in temperament, magnanimity, and knowledge, the Eldest Princess also has a sure win. As for socializing with the domestic nobility, the Eldest Princess holds all the advantages. So, calculating it all, the Third Prince basically no longer has the qualification to compete with the Eldest Princess.”

“Is that so? Since the Eldest Princess is so good, she was almost about to become an Empress.” Old Xie immediately asked curiously, “Then why would the Emperor still marry the Eldest Princess to me?”

“Actually, the one who truly pushed this matter was not the Emperor, but the current Queen, the Third Prince’s birth mother.” Chris Chen suddenly said, “She single-handedly orchestrated this marriage. Moreover, it seems your Stepmother also played a role in fueling the flames.”

“Hm?” Old Xie’s brows immediately furrowed upon hearing this. He thought to himself, Little Steven’s Stepmother hates him to death, so why would she be willing to let him marry a Princess? There is obviously a conspiracy here.

Chris Chen clearly saw Old Xie’s doubt, so he hinted in a low voice, “The Eldest Princess’s husband, and the husband’s family, would obviously be helpful to the Eldest Princess’s succession to the Throne. However, this also requires a prerequisite, that is, her husband can live to marry her. If before that, you were to die unexpectedly, then according to the laws of the Empire, the Eldest Princess must remain a widow for you. Even if she had ten thousand lovers, she could not officially remarry. And if the Eldest Princess could not endure the loneliness and had an affair, then it would be hard to say whether the Eldest Princess’s in-laws would still support her inheriting the Throne.”
