Chapter 31.2

Things haven’t been going well for her. Her family had arranged a blind date for her with the child of a wealthy businessman from their city. She had a look at his picture and wasn’t interested. Although he wasn’t ugly, he was nowhere near handsome. After the time she’d spent together with Luo Tianyuan, she wasn’t prepared to marry a ugly bum like him.

Song Wanqing threw the cup she had in her hand onto the floor in anger. She ordered her subordinates to secretly place a few stray cats along the alley where Qin Yutong stayed because she knew that the woman was afraid of cats.

No matter what, as long as Qin Yutong was in Ning City, she wouldn’t let her live in peace.

–

Luo Shuyan kept the coat from Qin Yutong in her closet and hasn’t worn it since.

After all, she had many new clothes. Luo Tianyuan would always buy the latest children’s clothing for her whenever he visited the shopping mall in their district. Song Qianjin also sent children’s clothing to her all the way from Shenzhen.

After Luo Shuyan found out that her family was wealthy, she no longer felt bad when she received new clothes.

She should act like the ‘fuerdai’*’ she was. Even though they were acting as if they were in debt, Luo Shuyan always dressed like a precious daughter who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She looked good in everything.

Today, she was going on a school trip, so she threw on the denim outfit that she got from Jing City. Denim clothing wasn’t widely available in Ning City.

She happily twirled in front of her mirror. Children grew up fast. The clothes were a little big when she tried them on in Jing City, but now they fit just right.

*T/N: Fuerdai (富二代), also known as ‘second-generation rich’, is a term used in China to describe people born into wealthy families, where the wealth was gained during their parent’s generation.

She thought that she would be the most outstanding kid in their year. However, as soon as she stepped out from her house, she saw Shen Yan, who was wearing a matching set as hers.

“…”

She had forgotten that her father had also bought a set for Shen Yan. The design was almost the same, the only difference were the tiny flowers that she had on her clothes.

“…”

Shen Yan wanted to go back to change.

However, this was an expensive gift from Uncle Luo, and he hasn’t worn it before. Autumn didn’t last very long in Ning City, and if he were to wear it next year, it would be too small. Thus, it would be such a waste.

Shen Qingruo’s eyes sparkled. Even the aunties who stayed downstairs commented, “You guys look like twins. Even your clothes are the same.”

“I don’t have such a sister,” Shen Yan said.

Ever since his mother told him that she would never get together with Uncle Luo, he stopped hoping for a younger sister.

Luo Shuyan wasn’t his younger sister.

Luo Shuyan didn’t go easy on her words either. “I don’t have a brother like you either.”

Bickering happened often between the two children. When Luo Tianyuan saw that his daughter and Shen Yan were dressed alike, he made a mental note to not buy similar clothing for the children. They had to dress differently, if not, it would give others the wrong message.

The Primary 5 students visited a botanical garden. Luo Shuyan’s bag was filled with delicious snacks. She didn’t feel like it was a lot when she was packing, but now it felt quite heavy. She looked around and saw Shen Yan; his bag looked quite light.

He didn’t like eating tidbits, so it was likely he only had a few books, a bottle of water, and a piece of bread in his bag.

Luo Shuyan never felt bad for asking her close friends for help. She ran to find Shen Yan and opened her bag. Without explanation, she shoved the biscuits, jelly, and sweets into his bag.

“It can’t fit in mine.”

Shen Yan side-eyed her and said, “Then why did you bring so much along? You’re going to stuff yourself.”

He had reminded her yesterday when he saw her packing. It was only a half-day trip, and they would be back home for lunch. There was no way she could finish so much, yet, she didn’t listen. She believed that ‘everyday is a special occasion’, and that she should make the school trip special… Now, she knows how heavy the snacks are, doesn’t she?

Luo Shuyan was annoyed but she remained silent. After all, she needed Shen Yan’s help.

After she lightened her backpack, she proceeded to rejoin her classmates.

A few guys from Shen Yan’s class came to tease him after Luo Shuyan had left. They must’ve been in a very good mood and were particularly brave today. They laughingly said, “Shen Yan, your bride is so good to you. She gave you so much good food.”

Shen Yan was stunned as he turned to look at them. He asked, “Do you know what ‘bride’ means?”

The few guys only knew what it meant on surface level. A ‘bride’ meant a wife.

However, they didn’t know what a wife was supposed to do.

Just like how they used to roleplay as a family in kindergarten — some were fathers while others were mothers. They knew what these people were, but they didn’t know the relationship between the two, and what it meant to be a father or mother of a child.

When Shen Yan saw them giggling, his expression darkened. “Don’t refer to her as that if you don’t even understand what it means.”
