Chapter 32.2

Luo Tianyuan worked overtime for a bit before heading to Ning City Hospital.

He received a call from Qin Yutong that she had fallen down and hurt herself. Qin Yutong had explained that she wasn’t sure if she did something wrong, but it seemed like she had beef with one of her colleagues. The way back to her accommodation never had cats, yet yesterday, a few cats ran out of nowhere. She was very afraid of cats, so she was completely shocked. She was riding her bike, so she fell off it. Thankfully, she didn’t break any bones.

Luo Tianyuan thought about it for a moment before agreeing to pay her a visit after work.

After work, Luo Tianyuan bought a basket of fruits from outside his office and also bought some supplements from the pharmacy. After that, he went to the hospital.

Qin Yutong was sure that someone was out to get her. Despite that, Ning City was a small city without surveillance cameras. Previously, Luo Tianyuan had brought her to the police station when she told him about the creepy guy. One of the trainees at the police station had fallen in love with her at first sight. Qin Yutong knew that she needed connections in this foreign land, so she didn’t reject him outrightly.

After she called Luo Tianyuan, she contemplated for a while before giving the trainee a call.

On the outside, she was giving a call to the policeman to ask him for help with the case. However, she had other motives in mind while making the call —

“Yutong, are you in Ning City Hospital? I’ll head over immediately. What would you like to eat? Shall I get my mom to boil some soup for you?”

She smiled faintly. “No need, I’m not hungry at all.”

“Great, I’ll be there in a jiffy.”

It was clear that the trainee policeman cared more about Qin Yutong than Luo Tianyuan because he reached earlier than Luo Tianyuan.

The young man didn’t know how to act around women that he liked. “Yutong, don’t worry, I’ll let my team leader know that I’ll be in charge of your case. I won’t let you suffer!”

Qin Yutong lowered her head and bit her lips. She was dressed in a large hospital gown, and even though she didn’t have makeup on, she looked very enticing in men’s eyes. “Wouldn’t this affect your job?”

“No way. It is my duty to protect the general public.” The trainee police smiled and continued, “Protecting you is the most important job I have.”

Qin Yutong’s smile became gentler.

However, in her heart, she was starting to become more annoyed. People from small cities were truly different. If she were back in Jing City, such a boy would never dare to approach her.

In this day and age, men were becoming less and less self-aware.

When Luo Tianyuan arrived, the police trainee was peeling apples for Qin Yutong. The two of them were talking happily with each other.

When Luo Tianyuan appeared, the police trainee looked like he’d just met his biggest enemy. He instinctively acted like the man of the house and treated him like a guest. He poured tea for Luo Tianyuan and said, “Luo- ge , I’m sorry, we’ve only got plain water, I’ll buy some soda tomorrow.”

Qin Yutong stared at Luo Tianyuan, she wasn’t willing to miss a single change in expression on his face.

Sadly, Luo Tianyuan looked very calm. He stayed for around 10 minutes before gently saying, “It’s getting late, I won’t impose on you any longer. I’ll pay you a visit again when I’m free.”

Qin Yutong was stunned, and the trainee policeman felt happy on the inside.

Qin Yutong didn’t manage to make him stay, Luo Tianyuan turned and left. By the time she came back to her senses, the trainee policeman was the only person left in her ward.

The trainee even said something, but nothing registered in her mind. She subconsciously gripped onto her bed sheet, her fingers slowly turning white.

What was happening?

During their university days, she liked him, and she knew that he had feelings for her too. Yet, none of them took the step to disclose their feelings. She seemed calm on the outside, but who could actually be calm when they had romantic feelings for another person.

Thus, to trigger Luo Tianyuan, she would purposely let him run into the scene of other boys confessing to her, show him the love letters she’d received from other guys, and even had study sessions with other guys to invoke jealousy within him.

At that point in time, he had shown a change in emotion. That’s why she couldn’t get why he wasn’t showing any now?

Or was he now better at hiding his true feelings?

Qin Yutong had no idea.

As for how Luo Tianyuan actually felt, he felt the same way as he was portraying himself to be. In his opinion, if he never got together with Qin Yutong back then, there was no way they’d get together now.

After dance class, Luo Shuyan went to Shen Qingruo’s place. There was a section of the wall dedicated to measuring the children’s heights, so she would measure her height occasionally.

She wasn’t sure if she’d ever met her birth mother. Perhaps her eyesight as a newborn obstructed her ability to see her mother clearly. Even if she’d met her birth mother before, she was sure she wasn’t able to see her mother’s face clearly. Whenever her paternal grandmother talked about her mother, she would praise her mother’s physical beauty, but… she doesn’t recall her grandmother talking about her mother’s height.

Her father stood at 1.8m.

Thus, Luo Shuyan was very confident in her height. However, there were times where her confidence would be shaken.

For example, during exercise sessions on Monday mornings, her teacher would get the class to arrange themselves by height – from the shortest to the tallest.

Boys and girls both had two separate queues, and she would always be within the first 3 people in the queues.

This was triggering for her.

Shen Yan was only half a year older than her, yet he was already a lot taller than her.

Luo Shuyan mesured her height — 1.1m.

She looked unhappy.

Shen Yan measured himself — around 1.27m.

Shen Qingruo noticed Luo Shuyan’s glum expression, where the little girl looked like she was willing to tiptoe to gain some height. “You’re only 6, you have many more years to grow. When I was your age, I was nowhere near your height, and look, I’m now 1.65m.”

Luo Shuyan was comforted momentarily before she heard a laugh coming from Shen Yan.

She immediately said, “I’m going to grow to be taller than 1.65m!”

‘’You sure? Then, in my case, I think I’ll be taller than 1.85m,” Shen Yan replied.

After they bickered for a bit, they childishly decided to write down their bets on pieces of paper.

Luo Shuyan seriously asked, “We have to set a time limit for ourselves. How old should we be to achieve that height?

Shen Yan thought about it and said, “18.”

……

The two of them started writing —

【I, Luo Shuyan, would grow to be 1.65m by 18】

【I, Shen Yan, would grow to be 1.85m by 18】

【Signed by Shen Yan】

【Signed by Luo Shuyan】

“Whoever who doesn’t achieve this goal needs to grant the other a wish!”

Shen Yan and Luo Shuyan wrote multiple pieces of rules in a serious manner.

Thereafter, Luo Shuyan hid her notes in her treasure box.

Whereas Shen Yan placed his in his favorite book.
